Can they play off each others shoulder?
That could be fun.

He clearly has all the attributes needed to be a good striker in this division - strong, mobile and hard working. His finishing today was poor but he stretched their defence time and time again, I’m a lot more confident having seen him play this afternoon. Him and Wright together are going to overwhelm defences.
Our passing stretched their defence not his mobility. Not really impressed at all, I’m sure he will get better but he looks clumsy and slow at the moment.
In Robins i trust to work it all out, I’m sure we will find the right balance but I think it might be mid September until we know our best 11

Listen, you have to give every player a few months to “get” the club, and the club to get them. We’ve seen so many players take time not just from signing but even just returning from injury. Robins and co have certain standards that enable certain ways of playing. We’ll get there.

He’s “clumsy and slow” because he hasn’t played enough in pre-season (or, at least that’s what Robins said). I wouldn’t expect lesser strikers like Tavares etc to fashion the same chances from the same passes.

He is clearly in our best XI even at this stage. We’ve invested a lot in him and we will stick with him unless/until it becomes clear we’ve made a huge mistake - I don’t expect that to happen.

I’m confused. Only watched about 20 mins of Simms so can’t comment from first hand but everyone I’ve seen talk about him has called him pacy.

Praying to be proven wrong but first impressions are we won’t be stumping up all those add on costs for him. We shall see I guess.

Obvious fishing trip. Simms had some quality moments today. Hold up play looked very good. Snatched a few shots but that will come. His ball to pick out Godden was excellent link up play

Look , however good people think he is doesn't really matter .

Matty godden appears a bit low on confidence in front of goal .. sheaf pulled him up after a chance and had a word in his ear , he's snatching at chances and seems desperate for a goal .. but by an large his overall game today was pretty good and he was far more involved than last season ..

However ...........

We've paid some 12 -16 million for 2 forwards and need to get a return on the investment

Simms and wright should start

Agreed. was disapointed with both of them today. Thought Godden played well, but the misses will be the headline. Simms was so poor first half, it deflected how good I thought he was second half. There’s no point pursuing Godden up top though with two valuable strikers, benching thems only gonna reduce their value

I haven’t seen him. But you could see against Exeter that he was a bit rusty and not in sync with his team mates yet, and that his style was going to upset people who want a Gyokeres clone.

He will never be a Gyokeres clone and I suspect some fans will not take to him but I can’t see how he won’t return a good number of goals this season

I actually thought simms had a decent 15 minutes before his substitution
.

He generally struggled and I'm a bit baffled by people that think he was good , were you there ? Couldn't control or pass a ball and whiffed a couple chances .

I think the period before he was replaced offered a glimpse into what we can expect and I'm OK with that he looked decent in that spell .. hopefully next to wright he can find the space needed to impose himself on games

He helped create a couple of chances in the first half

I always think back to Dujon Sterling (granted a different league). Didn't even look like a professional footballer at first. Ended up having a really good 3 quarters of the season.

Mind you , you can see how he divides opinion , read the comments, this was just after the 1v1 thing I'd imagine

One thing from him I saw today (although granted his first half was forgettable) was his strength. Was able to hold off two Leicester defenders simultaneously and then play a pass.

I’ve never seen a coaching team get the best out of players like ours. The improvement players of all ages and ability levels have shown the last six years, plus the number that leave and never hit those heights again, is ridiculous.

If there’s a player in there we’l bring it out.

Today, even I was slightly concerned about Eccles at RWB. After he'd settled down (I assume a bit nervous) he was decent. I still thing he is better as a defensive midfielder but I think the coaching staff must be doing stuff right.

Once Eccles went off they scored - because our new fancy expensive was out of position and left Thomas covering.
