1850 unsold seats then in the normal 4500 allocation for a 3pm Saturday kick off for a team who would normally have sold this out soon after release.

Sunderland have 856788433 left. Fuming

You can be sarcastic about it but it's a strong indicator that somethings not quite right.
Given how much discussion there is on their forum and ours regarding child pricing I would say its something Doug needs to look at.

And for the sake of some on here who are having trouble with comprehension that's CHILD PRICING!

Not season tickets, not adult matchday, not pies or programs!! Child pricing!

It is, these days. Home crowds are well up since covid.

Our crowds were only shit due to being the worst club in England to support. Our PL crowds of the 90 were comparable to the likes of Leicester and Southampton who consistently get 30k+ now.

The rise to an average of 20-22k is not really that impressive for a city of our size.

I think people have delusions of how big Coventry is.

The Coventry Urban area has a population of 360k. The Leicester urban area has a population of 508k. The two cities are not comparable.

By insisting on selling almost every available seat before opening another block, and then almost selling that before opening another the club are definitely putting people off and costing themselves revenue.
its Possible they are doing this because opening an additional block increases the costs of, for example, stewarding so they want to fill blocks before committing to extra expense.

I’m sure elsewhere on this forum there have been posts doubting the wisdom of having high allocations for away fans.

The blocks next to the away fans that makes sense.
When it’s block 27, which is going to have an open block either side of it any it just seems silly.
As both adjoining blocks will be open, the stairwell will already need a steward

Adult match day should be no more than £30 at this level either.

Indeed from some ….but you can’t go all balls out to drive up revenue by increasing prices all round to then start discovering you’ve over done it and actually you’re losing money because you’ve out priced people who are shunning it now?
There will still be a decent crowd here, early season optimism is high, it’s still summer, we are a long way from Xmas and larger energy bills etc ……but are people always gonna pay top dollar ?

so they’re probably going to sell out, what are all the tantrums about, or are we going to change what we do as a club because the Sunderland fans (shock horror) are whining about us

Could you have missed the point anymore?
You think £25 for a child is acceptable?
You think it won't have an adverse affect on current sales and getting kids interested for future generations?

Haven’t missed anything, but there are two things being argued at once.

kids prices too high? Yeah probably but only time will tell.

away fans boycotting? Doesn’t look like it based on them pretty much selling out.

and this cliched old argument about “future generations”, its only partly true so I don’t buy it- success locks in future generations. When we had really cheap tickets through the years it didn’t do much whatsoever for crowd levels, but getting to the playoff final sure did.

Sunderland have sold out 2 12pm kick offs in recent years against us, one on a Sunday, they got to the play offs last season.
They may sell out, but sales have been slow, a lot of them citing pricing, that makes it an issue.

If its affe ting them it will be affe ting us but granted its a lot harder to put a number on it given we're on an upward trajectory sales wise.

As for the future generation argument, it's not clichéd, it's true.
When we were shit I watched a little mob of those that inhabit singers corner, who are now in their early 20s but were young teens then grow and grow, I know because several of the little fuckers used to meet round my house!

No way that group grew like it did at 25 quid a ticket.
Pricing kids out is short sighted and probably unsound commercially in the here and now.

well I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. If we don’t hover around the playoffs and interest wanes a bit maybe King will do something to keep the numbers up, it’s very early days with all these changes to things.

I personally think he'll look at it.
You can't fault the bloke for reviewing policies that seem unpopular, I'll give him that.

Thanks, in part, to the incredibly successful family zone I expect there are more kids up the City week in week out than there has ever been

Yeah, as I said in another post, fantastic initiative.
But those who haven't been able to get in there are now paying the highest prices in the league, that needs looking at.

We’re getting 24000 in a stadium with an available capacity of about 28000, cost really shouldn’t be an issue.
Why risk losing fans and the revenue they bring to save the cost of a few stewards, makes no sense.

Why do you keep saying they are selling out….they’ve actually sold 2,650 tickets in an away end that even in recent times can take 4500.

The size of the city is irrelevant or Birmingham would get 50k per game. It's about the product on the pitch and nothing else. Comparing us to what are now an ex PL winner and a reasonably established PL side isn't apples to apples.

If we push top 6 this season we'll be selling out more often than not IMO.

Get rid of the category game system and make every game £10 above season ticket price for home & away fans and half price concessions, that’s still a £220 incentive to purchase season tickets.
That would be about right I reckon.

Early bird £400 /23 = £17.39 + £10 = £27.39…..Deal 👍

Tickets sales looking good, only 3 spots in the whole stadium where 2 seats together, they'll have to open up the other blocks soon
