But you don't get to be successful spending £20m to buy shit players.

You'd hope 1 or 2 might actually be decent.
What’s your point though? We were discussing who should start on Saturday, not what we do if we had a time machine and could change the past.

I've still yet to read one positive contribution he made on Monday.

Sorry I missed this one. Firstly, just to say since I’ve been calling for Godden to be “dropped” (never said he should never play again btw, just we should try out other options) he’s done absolutely nothing, missed a number of decent chances and has ran around like a headless chicken in some games. Secondly, Sheaf had ONE bad game, one, and you reckon Eccles is suddenly a better option than Sheaf?! Everyone has bad days and Sheaf is one of our most consistent defensive midfielders.

I just do not understand this love for Eccles, a man who has about 50+ attempts to whip a decent corner in and has failed on almost every occasion. As I’ve said before, he’s fine and a decent option to have in our squad when we need him but he’s not better than Sheaf in any regard.

This set piece stick to beat Eccles with is a weird one. Below are the stats for set piece goals this season compared to the whole of last season (where we were last on set piece goals).

I don't recall anyone moaning about Hamer's delivery. He might have whipped them and caused a bit of chaos and excitement, but we rarely scored from them!

Tbh I got fed up of him shooting from corners. The difference this season is that we have more 'weapons' and if we can get the delivery right we should be dangerous. Pre season and first game with Gus still here, looked a real threat. Then I think it was Palmer on them and they looked good too, so just a huge drop off since. I think now though people are starting say drop Eccles which is unfair as he does other things well and tbh I blame the staff for persevering with him on set pieces.

What is equally disappointing for me is that despite our aerial threat, we've been poor at conceding from set pieces which was always a really positive stat. I blame the coaching and the selections for that too as suggests that it's about organisation and knowing your job as much as aerial prowess.

Eccles only took two of those set pieces and I’m assuming it counts Godden’s which was a second phase.

It’s the eye test more than anything, his delivery in recent weeks has looked awful.

Yeah it definitely is odd as judging from those stats we’ve had quite a few deliveries into the box from corners and yet from the eye test they’ve mostly been awful deliveries. I’ve had a few debates about Eccles vs stats and it seems like the stats say he’s performed well but just looking at him on the pitch he’s performed poorly in my view. Maybe my view is wrong but I think the general consensus is Eccles shouldn’t be taking corners, just interesting that the stats say otherwise.

2800 is a very disappointing following imo.

This is the first chance we've had to take a serious number of fans to an away match since Blackburn over 2 years ago. There's a lot of Cov fans desperate to claim we have massive away support and sell out everywhere but we have even sold half an end. The likes of Leicester, Sunderland, Wednesday etc will sell the end out.

Good opportunity for people moaning to get points too...

It’s the most we’ve ever took there on the back of 3 consecutive defeats and 20th in the table

A fantastic first half display, chances not taken.

Preston to change shape at half time and go 1 nil up shortly after.

Godden to come on as sub to save the game and will have max 5 touches, 4 of which lead to Preston counter attacks, 1 of which leads to their second. Last ten minutes Preston will bop ball around with their fans cheering every pass.

Fans (mostly on twatter) after the game will continue to bemoan Doug for ‘not giving Hamer a couple grand more’ even though it’s plainly obvious to those with even just a couple of brain cells, that Hamer wanted to go the premier league and will be on a lot more money than we could have ever offered.

One positive however will be that Binks (if he starts) will have clattered someone in an aggressive manner, which automatically means they’re a good player - despite them giving away foul after foul all game.

My point is, we have no one capable of leading the front line, we've spent more money in one window than we ever have, and yet we don't have a single striker good enough to worry a cows arse!

So, in short, none of the three strikers we've tried so far are good enough to start.
So I wouldn't put any money on breaking our Preston duck this season.

The strikers are obviously worrying you and you’re bitching like a cow’s arse.

So who’s the “ tinker man “ going to play at Preston .
A change in goal is now a greater possibility than ever , with Collins likely to be behind his Barnsley team mates of Thomas , who’s been poor & a bloke who struggles to run properly in Kitchin .
In midfield , Viv’s Chelsea bias, will see Palmer re introduced & then he will be scratching his head with the other permutations .
Wrighty , the magician up front , might hopefully have a shot this game , but more than anything , I hope the city give us 3000 something to cheer about

As predicted, Avanti have started their antics, train cancelled.
Hopefully not the first of many.
Trains are a bit of a mess for the next few away games. Trains to Millwall are disrupted, and don’t even think about looking up train travel to Ipswich on December 2nd - should come with a health warning.

I think we'll lose (only because of our record) but as my mate said, records are meant to be broken.

Getting the earlier train now, getting in to Preston at 9.50.

Playing the box does my head in. It's a literal admission that the recruitment hasn't worked. Play more midfielders that can't score or create (and we didn't even sign any other than one loan who looks out of place), and keep the strikers we've spent a fortune on stuck sitting on the bench. It's a complete waste.

Also the whole bashing of Eccles whilst simultaneously playing up Sheaf is ridiculous. I'm not sure if it is my eyes but I'm sure someone said to play the latter further forward too. Kelly has also made us look much better when he has played, yet he's constantly kicked into the ground as well.

A few losses and I swear we start losing our minds.
