I don't think our need for an '8' is nearly as big as our need for a winger and a striker in this window. Since we've change to a 4 back we've been the 3rd best team in the league. The '8' were all after is the role that Cal and Kasey are playing. The fullbacks are still as attacking as they were in our 5 back system, meaning that we need a more defensively solid in the midfield (why Sheaf and Eccles are 4th and 6th in average rating for CMs this year). The most '8' midfield we have at the minute is Allen and he's looked a shadow of last season when playing in the new formation.

With the rumour swirling that Hadjis injury will have him out for a month our replacement is either Kasey or DaSilva on the left, afraid that isn't good enough for promotion. I don't think the right is as much of an issue as Cal or Milan can fill in on that side.

As for a striker, I think the sooner we replace Matty the better. He's been poor for the last 3 months and isn't a patch on Simms in the new system. He doesn't occupy defenders nearly as well as Simms does. Saying that I'm not sure Simmo is the answer up top in this system and Langstaff does offer something different to the both of them so could be the answer.

The 8 is very much Hamer and I wouldn’t let our recent good form cloud that.

Of our midfield options, who would start for playoff calibre teams? Eccles, Allen and Sheaf are all solid but our not game changers in the final third. How much better would this system be if we had a player like Hamer in there? It would be night and day.

I do agree that, second to CM, we need some wide players as playing JDS as a makeshift winger is putting a square peg in a round hole.

As for striker, it’s a nice to have but can wait until the summer if fees get silly/players become unavailable.

Anyway file this in the may or may not go through. Issues are the fee - as mentioned he only recently joined his current club which means they're being quite bullish about what they're asking. They'd also like him back on loan for the rest of the season which doesn't necessarily suit us. That bit is less of an issue though as either the fee will be right for him to come, or we decide to let him go back, but at least have secured the player before other clubs circle.

We'll see.
Scores very low in the, now common on here, "is he Japanese" metric.

I saw 2 exceptional players recently (Mbappe & Bellingham), maybe we look at French or English players???

Why on earth do we need a winger or at least one who expects to play 1st team? Wright on left (back up Palmer), Saka on right (back up Palmer).

We desperately need a number 8. After that it is a big striker as back up to Simms, absolutely not a fox in the box Godden/Taveres type. The 4-3-3 demands somebody to do a lot of physical grunt work running around creating space making it tough for the defence. I big burley loan would be ideal - Over 6 ft and built like a brick shithouse.

Palmer is never a winger

Maybe because Palmer isn’t a winger

I'm bothered by the 'well its obvious with Ayari' responses, when i posted he was going in November
You said there was a possibility, and who really cares if you said that? It's all a bit needy to come on and say look at me, look wot I said.

And the more you do that, the more people'll pull you up on the obvious / wrong / nonsense.

..neither is Wright, but he is now
We need a midfielder and one winger

we could do with another striker

Maybe another forward thinking right back

but overall we’re in a good spot at the moment and if we just get 2 signings I’d be content

See the answer above. Wright is not a winger but is very effective as a left sided versatile attacker. Palmer could do that as a back up.

I find the obsession with wingers depressing. They are few and far between, a bit of mirage, and too easily seen as a 'golden ticket'. That was why we reverted to wing backs. We have found one, but to seek 2 would mean Simms as our only big striker. Not sure that is a good idea.

I tend to agree with the earlier comment about a number 8 .
The change of system with Wright , Sakamoto,Simms and O'Hare as an attacking quartet and with our full backs encouraged to push high up the pitch gives us plenty of threat .
For me we need Sheaf back to his best passing wise and Eccles to continue improving in that department too
A box to box midfielder might leave us to exposed defensively

Love to get Ilias Chair in....would this be even feasible. Think je still has year and half left on his contract.

A struggling relegation doomed QPR would have to sell.

Not sure about Langstaff, our recruitment has been really left field and data driven this season and it’s paid off. Signing a 26 year old cos he scored loads of goals in league 2 doesn’t seem to fit that model. It’s a big step up from league 2, see McNulty to Reading.
Feel the same. He's been unbelievable at that level but the step up is substantial.

Who pissed in your cereal? Bit harsh, innit.
Just bored of the look at me, told you so.

Doesn't matter what subject really (Tony and PVA, take note about Brexit!) it's all a bit pointless and egocentric.

Just post the stuff, don't expect a bunch of strangers on a message board to hail you as the great god of transfer gossip on top of that.

Only thing with both the QPR lads, they were both brilliant two seasons ago... But have done very little since. Would make me think twice about signing either.

According to Sky Sports we're after french centre half Phillipe Diningroome.
