How do you know it's about money for O'Hare rather than he wants to play at a higher level and feels he isn't going to achieve that here?

When he was about to go to Burnley Robins said it was life changing money so I'm assuming they discussed it.
I don't blame the lad though I'd love him to stay.

Fair play to them if so but also says a lot about Doug in a way for me. Their best player is out of contract, they recognise he's a difference maker in their squad and offer him money accordingly

We, have offered Callum 18k a week when Simms and Wright are on 25. And wont go higher, and wonder why he then leaves.

No this isnt part of my 'vendetta' against Doug, its shows that even fucking Preston North End pay their best players accordingly, we dont/wont, and wonder why they never even entertain signing

Callum’s impact on the team isn’t the same as Simms and Wright ultimately.

In the open market with two years on his contract he was worth £9m. Or what we paid for Wright before he’d scored 19 in England. As usual you are talking absolute shite when it comes to O’Hare.

Personally I think O'Hare at his best is worth that when you consider what it would cost to replace him like for like. But I also don't think he wants to stay anyway, so it's irrelevant.

That's not how things work financially.
We're paying Sims £25k a week AND we paid a significant fee to Everton for him.
So the cost spread over a 4 year deal equates to around £45k a week. Wright's deal is around £55k weeks. (Roughly)

O'hare is available on a free, so if we paid him £25k a week it's not bad value compared to Simms and Wright.
If we keep O'hare for 2 years and then sell him for £4 million we will actually make money on the deal.

So for fuck sake, pay him the money!!!

Just accept COH probably isn’t going renew and wants a fresh challenge - money is besides the point here. We’re not outbidding a

If he wanted to, he would’ve renewed when he was injured. In his own words, he wanted to focus on his recovery.

He was going to Burnley before he did his ACL.

Callum’s impact on the team isn’t the same as Simms and Wright ultimately.
Not sure I agree and our best form was when he came back into the team. Also people are forgetting he ass still just back from a major injury.

Sorry but i just don't agree that anyone leaving Coventry could only possibly be doing it for the money. It's their career and they aren't necessarily fans of the club, indeed most aren't.

Seriously? 99.9 of football transfers are about money. This will be no different. He’ll go to the highest bidder. It’s very simple. It’s the same reason Shearer signed for Blackburn, why we’ve got players going to the Middle East etc. All the rest is guff. It’s about cash.

I’m not sure it’s a concept that needs a precise definition - in crude terms, the more money a team has available to it for transfers and salary, and the smaller its other immediate obligations, the greater their ability to pay.

We are losing £7 million a year so we have without significant owner backing or external funding no ability to afford the wage bill as it is.

This isn’t the point though - the point is if the owner is determine ceilings on transfers and setting conditions on who can be signed that’s a clear issue.

I'm sure there are other motivating factors but money's a big one I'm sure.
Got no issue either way to be honest, it's a short career.

Personally I think the affordability of the wage bill is quite relevant to what we have or haven’t offered O’Hare, but ok.

I’m not surprised DK isn’t prepared to make a player who was in and out the team for the last few months of the season our joint highest earner.

25k a week for 3 years is £4m. That’s a lot of money.
Hadn’t scored a league goal since February. I’m sure other players would be criticised if they had similar barren runs. The elephant in the room too is that he is still within the ‘at risk’ period of re-rupturing an ACL.

I genuinely wish him good luck from here, he is a modern day terrace hero but it’s probably best for both parties to move on.

Anybody would think that they’re never going to earn a single penny when they hang their boots up at the tender age of 30 something.
Granted they won’t earn the sums they once did but with wise investment and the opportunities that appear to be more available to ex pro footballers than us mere mortals they aren’t going to be on the bread line that’s for sure.

Very true PVA, but not working ever again past their playing days, that’s not a recipe for good mental health.

Isn’t it a basic human requirement to give of yourself either in paid employment or in a voluntary capacity to have a feeling a self worth?

COH is going and has been for ages because we can’t match premier league wages - that’s fine and that’s appropriate

If we miss out on this guy because Preston offer more money than we think he’s worth then again, disappointing but glad we aren’t being reckless with contracts etc.

Goals win games. If he performed like his purple patch over the four years he was here fair enough, but turning it on for three months doesn’t get you a £25k/wk deal.
I think he could well get a £25k/wk contract, but it will be at a team who can probably afford to pay that to several players without having to worry about cutting back elsewhere, and them’s the breaks. We can’t afford to pay market value to every player that we’d like to sign.

If you make O’hare the highest paid player then the others, Wright, Simms, Sheaf etc become unhappy and then ask for more when it’s their turn. Slippery slope. Got to draw the line somewhere.

I have learnt the hard way in Football Manager many times. Ungrateful bastards.

Not sure he’s made his mind up yet though on his future.
He signed for us I L1, when I’m sure the Villa contract extension was more lucrative. Lad wanted to play.
He moves to Leicester or West Ham and most likely will be joining a team fighting relegation, or he stays at Cov and is playing behind Simms, Wright, Sakamoto etc , in a team that will get automatics next season.

Villa never offered him a contract and he signed for us in the Championship (L1 was a loan).

Browne has a decision to make and although it his right to take a look at all options and offers out there. The club will need an answer sooner rather than later, i would imagine they will set a deadline and if it passes, we will move on.

We want players that want to sign for us for the right reasons. If they have to think too hard, move on to the next target. I hope the club keep all quiet as im not interested in those who dont want to come.

Back to Alan Browne. I saw somewhere on here that he was reputedly on £15k per week at Preston but is supposed t have been offered more to stay. Is it not feasible for us to compete with that? It would cost us more than that to keep COH

It’s not just wages though, there’s things like contract length to address. In the short term, Browne would be a fantastic signing over the next 1-3 seasons. If we want to be in the Prem in the next few years a longer term contract might make more sense for PNE to offer rather than ourselves.

Again, we’re not flush with money so if a target is outside our price range, we just need to move on.

Overpaying on just a few thousand here on wages, or hundreds of thousands/millions there on transfer fees is a sure way to end up like Derby, Blues or teams that have overspent in recent years.
