Simms and Wright (10 Viewers)

What on earth has happened to these two over the summer?

Wright vs Oxford aside they’ve both been horrendous so far this season. Hard to understand how they both seem to have gone backwards since the end of last season. Is it purely down to a change of tactics? Hard to judge from the stands, and obviously don’t know what’s been directed by the manager, but both played like they didn’t care yesterday.

Most were relieved we kept hold of them in the summer because they're two quality strikers at this level.
Yet already they're being rotated and replaced with inferior players. Just like early last season.
If I was Wright and was being replaced by EMC I'd be pissed off.
Likewise BTA for Simms.
They're the best we've got and should be first on the team sheet.

And yet lots of people on here were clamouring to see Bassette start and slating Simms before the match.

Flip side to that is if you were EMC sitting on the bench watching yesterday’s performance by Hadji would you be just as pissed off?
Simms confidence should have been high after scoring and playing well on Saturday but he has put in 2 half hearted attempts when he has come on in the last 2 games.
I get that he could have started on Wednesday but coming off the bench and jogging round for 20 minutes won’t help his cause when Bassette has shown more energy.
I do think that 1 up front is a thankless task and would much rather see 2 up top.

2 of my favourite players last season but you cannot make excuses for them. Simms looks about as dangerous as a pug in a tutu and Wright looks like he's drunk.

Simms might as well stand next to the cathedral and pretend to be a spire for all the use he is.

Both confidence players playing in an unhappy squad. We’ve lost all man management at the club.
And WHY are we an unhappy squad?

Don't like the Improvements to Ryton and can't park their cars in the normal spots?
Don't like the fact AV has gone?
Don't like the new coaches?
Fed up with MR droning on?
Don't like it because they're being asked to step up to the mark now that certain individuals have gone?

I don't know if they're unhappy but I do know the team and the way it's being set up to 'play' isn't right.
Somethings wrong.

It's a big concern for me

A few players have actively regressed this season

The main 2 are Simms and Wright who have gone back 12 months to being shite

Bidwell is a year too far

Thomas has regressed distribution wise

Sakamoto for some reason now refuses to take a man on amd wait for the overlap of MVE who I feel sorry for as he's getting doubled up on all the time

That is purely coaching for me

Nothing has happened to them. Simms has had a decent start and inexplicably been dropped. Wright was picked when clearly flagging. They are still two of the best strikers in the league

With our midfield being short on quality and cannot pass for toffee, why don't we play them both up front , Simms and Wright. EMC and Saka on the wings putting crosses into box, sometimes it's not all about trying to play nice passing football, we need points.

Wright is either carrying a knock or he can’t be arsed. He seems the sort that needs motivating more. He’s technically our best player, quick and can finish. He should be a beast but at the moment it looks like he’s hiding

Haha absolutely not! I like Bassette though, he's 19 don't forget.

Agree, he's already shown enough in a couple of brief appearances to suggest he's got a very bright future.

Its a massive concern as their value will plummet if they have a poor season.

We may come to regret not selling them both in the summer, we would have probably been able to turn a small profit on Wright and a decent one on Simms.

You wouldn’t have thought after the season they both had that we would have considered selling them in the summer.

I would play them both and ask people to pass to them continually.
They need some shock treatment.
Shit or bust.

I did wonder about Wright not being allowed to play in the Olympics? I thought he looked sullen and unhappy when he reported back for pre-season.

Their goal tallies last season hides their deficits. The amount of sitters they miss is unbelievable. Some of the basic football skills they haven't mastered and what is more than frustrating is their lack of physicality. They should be bullying defenders with their statures. Their body language rarely looks competitive. Bassette is a breath of fresh air in that respect.

No, if you play in forward roles and get the goals they got last year that is the only stat that matters

Totally agree, they never show any urgency, Simms should be holding the ball up or running the channels, being an outlet but very rarely does. Wright's body language is so casual looking.. some of his shots are so powder puff,

When each player is full of confidence they’re very hard to play against. When they’re in their shells like this, you’re better off not playing them.

So have we made our minds up yet as to whether Wright and Simms are amazing, the subject of Premier League interest, and worth many millions more than what we paid, or a pair of carthorses who lack “basic football skills?” It’s hard to keep up.

We are generally far too slow at getting the ball to the strikers. Midfield always have one extra touch too many and then have too go back to reset. If the full backs have advanced forward they are left badly out of position.

Simms gets dropped after scoring for a 19 year old who’s yet to score.

Wright hauled off at HT for EMC who’s done absolutely nothing of note in a city shirt.

I wonder why they’re not performing.
