Assuming Sheaf and MVE go in the summer.

keep bta
Loan out Bassette
Get rid of Collins, Tavares, burroughs, JDS, Binks

Get in a new RB
new LB
Extend Allen’s contract a year
New CM
New RW
Big CB

and go again for another year
I think Binks can improve and become a better defender. Burroughs deserves a chance to show his worth. If not, maybe another loan might be needed. Might be tempted to sell Sheaf and try to keep MVE. For some reason I’m still on the fence about Simms who hasn’t scaled the heights of last season. Feel we should’ve maybe tried to get Whittaker in exchange, but that ship has sailed. Agree on most of the other things.

I'd rather keep Bassette tbh - yes BTA's in a tiny bit of form but he's a headless chicken & his finishing's woeful - much rather develop Norm

If Ben Sheaf got back to last seasons form then him and Grimes together would be quality at this level
I was thinking Sheaf would leave but does he get a better move than us atm? I don't think so. Maybe he stays and hopefully picks up his old form.

someone would take a punt on him, just because of how good he has been in the past

What kind of offer would we accept though? He's probably the hardest player to judge the value of right now.
yeah, not sure we'd get the 8 figure fee we would of got before this season

still we look like we are signing a player who is at least his equal and who misses less games abate one who is older which will soften any blow of him leaving

People seem to misunderstand that knockout football is different to league football. The objective is to go through, there are no draws.

According to the laws of the game penalties are a method of tie breaking for the purposes of requiring a winner but the match is still a draw.

anyone know how we’re actually affording this deal?

on one hand the Vic money is long gone, and rumours that we’re skint.

The next we’re offering Swansea’s captain a long term deal. Spending 4 million and increasing his already large salary?

Make it make sense

There's more money to come from selling Gyokeres.

Most transfers are not paid in full at the date the player moves. Most are paid over a minimum of 2 years with the terms being part of the negotiations. IIRC Hyam went for a lower fee than had been offered before, and part of the reason was the full fee was paid at the time.

We are owed many millions. We owe many millions. Also more millions to come from the next Gyokeres move. But we rarely get to know the full terms of each deal. We don't even know how much every player is bought/sold for.

Not sure why everyone is desperate to use this as a reason for others to depart. I'd say we now have good options all over the park and adequately backed up with the exception of full back. Add some strength in depth there and no reason we can't make a challenge for one of those two remaining play off spots.

We still need a CB as well. A short term loan for a RW would be good as well as Tats hasn't looked the same this year.

I'm not personally sure that Grimes transforms this team instantly, but is a very big piece of the puzzle.

There are draws. We used to do replays so that one team could win. Now we don't have the patience for that so we do tie breaks. We could just flip a coin but the drama of penalty shoot outs is box office.
The game which preceded the penalties was and will always be ... a draw.

The CBs will be fine once the get better protection in front of them. Thomas and Kitching looked pretty good when sheaf was playing his best football in front of them.

A draw somebody has to win 🤔

They had a good 7/8 game period but they haven't consistently shown they can work as a pair. Admittedly this season they haven't had much opportunity bar Norwich (??). I'd be happily proven wrong and have consistently said we need to allow young players to grow into their roles. But if we are serious about promotion we need a top quality option.

Bassette hasn’t done much recently either although he’s been reduced to cameos. With BTA, his finishing was terrible, but I’m hoping something has clicked over the last couple of games. He drops back and tries to win the ball when we are pressed and Simms needs to learn to do that as well instead of just standing around ball watching. Ever since we lost Wright to injury, we haven’t had a reliable scorer. Yet in a way I think it bodes well in that EMC, BTA, Torp, Rudi etc have all chipped in to score. I feel Grimes is one of the last few missing jigsaw pieces we’ve been playing a long time without.

We would have bought players on the same arrangement.

The math of what we raised by selling Gyokeres and Hamer lines up with the incoming players

Yes it does approximately. But as I stated we also have another big payment due when Gyokeres moves again. That will be this summer at the latest.
