Once we've got a fully fit squad and assuming no players depart. Is this Lampard's likely preferred 11?

MVE
Thomas
Kitching
Bidwell
Grimes
Rudoni
Torp
Sakamoto
Simms
Wright

Gotta get EMC in there somewhere.

No, it’s mental how so many people have written Sheaf off after a slightly poor (by his standards) half a season. He’s one of the best midfielders in the division. Form is temporary.. class is permanent.

I'd keep Allen in there too and Sheaf when he's back.

Simple 5 2 2 2 1 formation we don't have to choose between wingers and looking exposed down the middle.

Think that team from the opening post looks like our strongest side on paper. I do wonder if Lampard rates Sheaf and EMC highly enough to shoehorn them into the side regardless, in which case Simms and Sakamoto would probably make way (Rudoni out wide, Wright up front)

And I have my doubts about whether a 433 system with our current defenders can work as well as a 3ATB, but that's another question.

If Sheaf can get back to form then I would like to see 4-2-3-1. I would have to play Rudoni out of position though

MVE Lati Kitching Bidwell
Sheaf Grimes
Rudi Torp EMC
Wright

No sheaf? He should be the first player on the team sheet when he’s fit, I’d play him instead of torp

"When fit". Who're going to play in the 15-20 games he misses season after season?

Would also add that if you're worried (as I am) about whether our current CBs are too dodgy to handle a 433 system, then one way to mitigate that is to have two defensively-minded midfielders (Sheaf and Grimes) in front of them

Going to base this on next season but the beauty here is that we have multiple system options.

At Home would love us to play

Dovin
MVE (New RB) - Thomas - Kitching - Bidwell
Grimes
Torp - Rudoni
Sakamoto - Wright - EMC

Away at home to top teams we can shift to the 5-3-2. Brentford have been doing it in the prem to great effect

Arguing over Wright and EMC is pointless, when they're probably still at least a month off playing regular 90 mins (Wright more so), and by that point someone else will probably be injured. Either one of them could also be completely out of form.

For me it’s pretty easy and it’s this

Dovin
MVE
Thomas
Kitching
Bidwell
Grimes
Sheaf
Sakamoto
Rudoni
EMC
Wright

The only question mark is whether it’s a 4231 or a 433 but personnel wise I think that’s comfortably our best XI

Yeah he gets injured? Doesn’t mean he’s a shit player as you’re trying to point out. On his day he’s the best midfielder in the league

I'm not saying he's a shit player. I am saying he misses nearly a third of every season through injury (which is shit) and when he has been playing this year, he has been pretty rubbish for most games. I know a lot on here love him and say he's the best midfielder in the Championship, etc etc, but really, he needs to stay injury free and up his game. He also needs to be relieved of the captaincy. Maybe that will free him up a little more.

He'll be under increased pressure now that Grimes is here. A captain and a player who has played 301 out of the last 305 games, which is pretty incredible.

Torp & Simms would be pushing for starts. And depends what shape FL wants to play in midfield.

People suggesting 5221 or Rudoni on the wing? 🤨

Not written him off, and I rate him very highly as a player but he's similar to Grimes and not convinced Lampard really wants that. When he's fit again he should be at least be able to ease himself back in rather than being rushed back as he was earlier this season.

One of our major problems year on year has been we have had no quality in depth. Now we are starting to get there. We don't need to fit all our quality players into one team, they will all play a significant part.
