In the first half, they didn’t threaten us that much. They ruthlessly punished our mistakes which were pretty basic.

Where was the defence for their first goal and Dovin should be glad he’s had a good run of performances otherwise he’d have been pelted for that mistake.

It’s academic now, but the most disappointing thing about today’s performance was the number of basic errors that made it easier than it should be for a superior team.
I can only think it was acceptable to the management to let the guard down in the prioritisation of effort spent overall!

Schooled tonight by a v good championship side. Quick, skill full and aggressive. I had to check in the first half they only had 11 on the pitch as they always appeared to have at least one extra man. We gifted them both goals and they could/should have scored 3 or 4 more. They showed the gulf in class between an auto chasing team and one that aspires to sneak into the playoffs. Lampard will have learned a lot from tonight, and so too should we fans (and Doug), about what we need to make a realistic push for promotion next season.

On the games I have seen only Leeds looked a class above and let’s be honest we basically put their goals in for them. Everyone else is fair game but these players have to believe they can do it.

Tonight the belief was never there.
We paid too much respect to them in the first half and basically self-destructed. The high line did nothing to stop them and they easily broke through it at will. Should have just parked the bus and countered when we could or settled for a 0-0.

Definitely think the Eccles Sakamoto Da Silva and Binks should be given a run for rotation

hopefully EMC can get half an hour
Really don’t care too much about the cup this season.

The game reminded of Ipswich last season. A team in form came here to do a job and executed it well. A class above us, we need to invest some big money if we are serious about promotion as the league is improving each season.
Grimes looked class we need to build around him in the summer.
We need to see how Wright comes back and if he stays but BTA and Simms are not the answer.
Not sure at this point about defence. Seems harsh to let Kitch go but the rest are replaceable.
Kitch was ok. Not sure who wants him to leave. They were swarming, stifling and pressing us to bits. We just never got to grips with their pressure and pace. They tend to score a lot of early goals to kill teams off. In hindsight think we should have just parked the bus and frustrated them.

Our defence was being cut open at will but when the midfield are being overpowered and strikers constantly giving it straight back to them you don’t stand a chance against someone the quality of leeds

Tbh I just decided to do a spot check of some of Leeds results, wins, draws, losses, inspired by @shmmeee checking out their defeats yesterday.
In all honesty the stats against us pretty much marry up to their stats all season. They have way more shots and more possession than the opposition, always. In fact we managed more passes and possession than many. Even the games they haven't won seem to be because they aren't clinical enough, which was evident last night.
Best team in the league by a country mile.

Best team in league.

No panic required. Park it and move on, we won’t play anyone else remotely close to that level.

frustration was we started passively and its then very hard to get yourself out of that, even more when you go behind. 2 silly errors, but they should have had more.

hindsight, should have started grimes, might have helped retention.

Key is next Tuesday now, how we bounce back, I would rest a few Saturday.

we are still in the mix, but need another run now.

also remember we are missing 3 best players, we can’t afford that against quality like Leeds.

Against teams like Leeds do we need to braver if we are playing 3 at the back? The wingbacks picked up their wingers leaving no one to track their full backs who could wander forward at will. Do the wide cbs need to take more responsibility for the wingers and allow the wingbacks to pick up the fullbacks?

Trying to think of the last side I saw in the Championship as good as these.

People talking about formation changes based on last night, get a grip. Last night told us nothing other than we're miles away from Leeds in every department as are most other teams in this league.
Bit of fun Saturday than back to the proper serious business Tuesday, winnable league games.

I've always wanted to go 433 when the players are available. I love players like Wright and EMC, I want them together on the pitch if possible and I'll take them 2 every single time over Simms and BTA.
Other than that I agree.

That team, on that showing, is streets ahead of last season.
They had some great players last season, but as a team unit they looked far more effective last night.

Agree. They also look in a different class to the three promoted teams of last season.

Really impressive defensive shape and flood players forward when they attack.

fair assessment
Ultimately, we’re not a top 6 ‘deck’
But we’re improving generally.

Leeds were brilliant with electric pace and confidence, we were hesitant and strangely devoid of confidence given our unbeaten run.
Could have been much worse but could have been 2-2. What a save from their keeper. Dovin was great after his error with the one on ones. Simms played with purpose in the second half imo.
Grimes highlighted how to pass to your own team mate and gave a glimpse of what is to come.
Move on and park this game but I must admit Leeds schooled us big time.

That Leeds front line is possibly the best I've ever seen at the CBS, their speed, finesse and skill was utterly terrifying and if I wasn't so miserable I'd find it funny that the assistant refs couldn't keep up with them. Only their profligacy and Dovin stopped the final score from being utterly embarrassing.

Sometimes I do think you just have to hold your hands up and say that the other team is just operating at a far higher level, I was happy to see us playing more positively in the second half but even then we didn't really give them anything they couldn't handle and it left our back line horribly exposed.

Grimes looks quality and I can't wait to see what he brings to the team.

And honestly, it's a shame that the pre-match predictions of an early Leeds goal and the subsequent effect on atmosphere came to pass. The utter silence around me was dispiriting, I'd rather have anger than that.

Go back and look at how Robins got on with this defence earlier in the season, and Lampard 2 goals a game. Switching to a 5 and having the defenders joint at the hip with our midfield positionally has drastically improved our overall performances, we can't help losing to Leeds, they literally could have won it 10-0 tonight.

We are no where near the promotion level whatsoever, I will never stop point out the fact our defence isn't good enough, but as a 5 we can forge something that may see us land top 6. We can't have it all, most clubs in this league are in the same boat and we mustn't forget that.

It's not the back 5 per se, it's what the players are doing. I'd argue that the back 5 made us worse last night as too often the middle of the 3 was too deep and played Leeds onside.

Not keen on writing off games as unwinnable tbh. It was Leeds not prime-Barca.

Having said that as others have said even if you think that it is unwinnable there's a way to go about it and yesterday wasn't it, particularly the first half.

Fingers crossed its just a blip. Be interesting to see what we do at the weekend. A lot of players didn't cover themselves in glory, do we ring the changes and give Lampard a decent look at players who haven't been getting minutes.

Leeds were excellent, we made far too many errors, and they gave us a lesson in how to pass to your own team. (Amongst other lessons)

If he doesn't empty his pockets today, then I fear BTA will get a 2-week fine for going AWOL from training.

😂

BTA is showing improvment but completely out of his depth last night. Just not convinced he’s good enough for this level, consistently good enough.

BTA was hopelessly outclassed last night and was also repeatedly throwing strops at the other players; a night to forget for him all around
