No way mateNoel Whelan
and Gascoigne in a testimonial...that showed how good he was.For much of his time he literally only had one player ahead of him moving, most of the team was static
The arrival of the Morrocans and Robbie Keane was a game changer.
I met him outside the ground after a reserve game don’t think he had played but he looked a bit like what the fuck am I doing hereI was in the Skyblue Terrace right near him, as he sat on the sidelines ‘injured’. Limped off to an ovation never to be seen again!
Big lad, big gut, big hair.
Legend.
I think you'll find he never gave the ball away.Agree about Doyle. Unable to pass to a player wearing the same coloured shirt as him
Can’t blame him. Didnt he score that absolute belter for Uruguay at Wembley?I met him outside the ground after a reserve game don’t think he had played but he looked a bit like what the fuck am I doing here
Came to say the same re: Shaw and Hall. I thought they were both useless but always seemed popular amongst fans.I’d echo others here… Doyle and Konjic…
gonna throw 2 others who I just couldn’t get the love for
Richard Shaw and Marcus Hall
Emerson was a very good player, his partnership with Lloyd Mcgrath was really coming on well before injury struck.Which “golden boys” of City players, past and present, do you think have inflated worths?
For me - Michael Doyle. Clogger whose penchant for bookings/ sending offs masked his limited ability.
To a lesser extent, Dean Emerson always seemed to have got a lot of praise. Was just a teenager in his pomp, but never saw it myself. Always injured and had a terrible moustache.
PS Emerson, before that Sheffield Wednesday wanker crocked him was seen as potentially Brian Robson's successor in the England Squad (and that is ITK)
I was going to say Doyle, Konjic and Shaw.I’d echo others here… Doyle and Konjic…

I was young when he was here but I recall him being injured for his first 2 seasons and class in his final season just in time to do a runner to Liverpool.I was going to say Doyle, Konjic and Shaw.
More controversial but I also think McAllister has a better reputation than he deserved here. Not doubting he was a very good player, but he made us one dimensional because the team were clearly told to play through him so opposition teams just marked him out of the game and we had nothing. I also thought his corners were all too floaty, near post looking for a flick on.
Gotta disagree on this one. Scored 6 in like 13 games and it was the only time Doyle looked like a decent midfielder.Dennis Wise
I remember reading a Pompey fans appraisal of him when he joined us. It was something like, “I’m never really too sure what he does when he plays, but we miss him when he doesn’t”.I think Doyle is overstated even in his second spell, Kelly a more important player imo.

I only properly remember his last season here when he was class along with Keane, Hadji, Chippo and Palmer. He's clearly a quality player when he has quality around him, but I've heard a few people say he was a waste of money before that season (3 million on a 32 year old, when we didn't have 3 million), and we had our best run of form while he was out injured (our still to this day, record breaking 6 wins in a row), and we went to crap when he came back into the team as he slowed it down too much.I was young when he was here but I recall him being injured for his first 2 seasons and class in his final season just in time to do a runner to Liverpool.
