He doesn't, Asante has contributed a lot more. Bassette is miles off it at the moment..

Has Bassette ever had a consequential impact on the game coming as a sub?

Bassette has potential but he was playing in the Belgian league with a 1 in 5 record last season. Impressive for his age but as you point out, he’s not at the level required and he struggled to pin his place down after Lampard came in and stuck with him.

It’s not an insult, BTA and Simms scored 32 (give or take) goals between them last season in this league.

I'd just rather have Bassette's pressing, pace and runs in to the channels off the bench than Assante.

Got a spare going for this one unbelievably, all first refusals have other plans so it's open to any!

Dovin
Milan
Thomas
Kitching
Bidwell
Grimes
Allen
Rudoni
Sakamoto
Simms
EMC

Subs
Collins
Lati
Binks
Dasilva
Torp
Eccles
Sheaf
Haji
BTA

Allen deserves to start as he gives us greater ability to control the passing and the tempo than Eccles. We need to deny Oxford possession and move the ball quickly. He's had his breather.

We just need to control the midfield. Leave them to high balls over the top. They've not been very good up front recently. Grimes will be a big asset in this game.

Still not seen anything from Bassette that Asante doesn't already give us

Can swap the names around and the statement would still read true for me. Asante had the chance to play in a two with Simms and looked better for it. Barring that, there's nothing that really lifts one higher than the other for me.

Tend to agree with this although I think Bassett can be a more effective disrupter coming on as a sub.

Just had a look at their forum. Confident bunch aren’t they considering they haven’t won in six games and only scored one goal.
Calling us tin pot and trying to justify their shit attendances is just embarrassing a long with the my dick is bigger than yours

TBF, pretty much all the stuff is clearly tongue in cheek, and Procdoc is on there embarrassing themselves and getting wound up. The fact you're rising to it at all, is just evidence that what they're doing is working.

On Bassette.

There is a lot of training going on behind the scenes to unlock his potential. You see little snippets of this in City unseen.

So unsure if he would be dropped from the bench. I would assume he understands he needs to work hard and just buy his time.

He has been a hot head at his last club when not playing and supposedly forced the move due to this.

When everyone is fit I'm just not sure there is room for him.

Of course there won't be that many times when everyone is fit, there's always going to be an injury or two.

But it's between him or one of the midfielders (Allen?) to miss out when everyone is fit.

Or he's a good option to have from the bench

If Wright and Torp are fit enough to be on the bench then Bassette and JDS are out the squad. The bench is stacked then and those on it give FL a lot of flexibility to change shape or change the game if needed.

Got to keep picking up points if we cant win don't lose because every point gained now is a good one. Teams including us will slip up between now and the end of the season. We have got to hold our nerve and hope others slip up more than we do while keeping all fit.

JDS is unlikely to be left out. He is the only viable cover for left back if Bidwell has to come off unless we go to wing backs and Rudi slots in at left WB.

I also doubt we will put 3 players on the bench who are coming back from injury, one at a time probably.

I'm not sure about JDS, if Bidwell gets injured in a game who is coming on?

You’d hope this is a game where we don’t need to do too much pressing because we have a lot of possession.

In any case, BTA may actually be better at pressing than Bassette.

Even Simms’ 2nd goal against Sheff W demonstrated his targeted pressing has actually led to a goal.

can see a CB left out,, likely Binks as Lati can cover RB as well
Possibly. Also thinking do we really need all of Allen, Torp and Sheaf on the bench? (going with the assumption Eccles starts.)

I think one of the CMs is a prime candidate to miss out when everyone is available.

Say Grimes and Sheaf are first choice, you don't need Eccles, Torp and Allen on the bench.

He's a 19 year old kid from Belgium who's never played higher than the French second division, we're not going to be putting him on the bench because he might have a tantrum. At the moment he's well down the pecking order and will be picked accordingly.

If Allen starts Lati or Binks miss out as Eccles falls to the bench and can play RWB, RB, CDM. If Eccles starts then Allen or Torp dont make the bench

Allen is out of contract in the summer isn't he? (unless I missed news of an extension). So I guess he'd be the one to miss out if it was to be a midfielder.

I agree, he's played his part well when needed and actually its a bit harsh for him to drop out of the squad but we look strong, we don't need 3 CMs on the bench imo and he doesn't make it on there in place of a fully fit Sheaf or Torp. I'm going with the assumption Eccles starts as he did the last game but i don't think he'll be the preferred starter for long.

I think Torp may start if fit. He was playing well before the injury and there will surely be some rotation with the CMs. Sheaf won't start, Lampard always seems cautious in bringing players back from injury preferring to increase their game time from the bench. I would think Bassette would drop out if Haji is on the bench.
