It's this complacency that the winning run has given us. We can't win game after game, at some point you're going to put in a poor performance and get punished - the teams not a machine. It could have been last weekend, the week before, or next weekend. Hopefully they regroup now and focus.
Agreed. We lost, we were awful. Every single one of them should know they were not even close to where they should be.

But what they also need to remember is they've won 9/10 before this car crash. This, this right now is where Lampard and the players show their mettle.

I mean we’ve conceded 6 goals in our last 3 games, whereas all 4 clean sheets kept in the last 11 league games were a variation of 3-5-2 or 3-4-2-1.

the clean sheets were against Blackburn, Bristol, QPR who are all around us and Swansea.

whilst the last 3 games have been against Oxford, Stoke and Derby. All 3 teams woefully out of form.

the results would support my theory

But dropping two of our in form players negates your theory

I don’t see it with grimes yet. I thought he’d have much better range and vision than he does.

No it doesn’t - it’s a team sport. I’m not saying there isn’t a role for them. But you play the side that is best equipped to not concede.

we’re currently in a position where we have to score 2 just to get a draw.

we were the same earlier in the season when we had 4 at the back.

it’s a results business. Not an individual business.

Still disagree . Tonight was just one of those games we throw in every season . Giving away silly fouls is killing us currently.
Dropping two of our biggest goal threats because we are worried about conceding is madness to me

We were scoring goals and not conceding with at the back. Someone put a graph up earlier that suggests that we’re creating less and it coincides with the change in formation.

Sakamoto has played in the 3-4-2-1. EMC can still play that role. They need to adapt

Tonight was an awful performance by all including FL and staff. But FL will definitely be enforcing to the players to forget the result and move to only thinking about Sunderland.

Nothing can change the last result you only make it right by getting points Saturday.

If anything, this will take the pressure of all those wins off our shoulders. I'm sure we were worrying about the run and not concentrating on the here and now, that said we were fucking honking tonight but it's out of our system now.

Ffs this Derby team are shite. They have had 3 shots on target across the 2 games, scored 4 goals and beaten us twice. If we don't make the playoffs having Derby do the double over us will be a major reason why.

Wright and Bidwell . Fucking awful. Also not as sold on Grimes as everyone else.

This lot don’t have the bottle for play offs.
Bit unfair on Wright, I think.

The guy has just come back from injury and is clearly lacking sharpness. Very hard to just come back in after weeks out and be immediately match fit.

I'm sure we'll see Wright back at his best very soon. Hopefully, on Saturday, we will see something approaching the Wright we remember.

Maybe. He certainly shouldn’t have had 90 mins. There’s looking rusty and there’s looking like a competition winner.

Wright looks like he’s been out for four years rather than four months unfortunately. That was a woeful display but let’s hope the minutes in his legs will bring benefits in upcoming games.

I don't care what anyone says Sheaf in the squad is better than him sitting in the stand.

No one will argue with that. Problem is, that's where he spends a third of every season.

Edit: He's played in 52% of our games this season. Unacceptable.

A very tough night’s watching from the stands. A game where we lacked a physical leader & another bench with 2 keepers …… & Sheaf missing again ?
Let’s hope just a blip & Saturday is now a very big game before our international break .

Reflections.

Easy journey, easy to park. Went downhill after that.

Started poorly and never really clicked all night. Had a ton of possession but nothing with it.

Poor game from Grimes, which set the tone really. Off night for most of the rest. Only Saka, EMC and MvE were decent for me.

Bidwell was shocking as was Wright. Amazed he stayed on the pitch.

First goal was a poor one and I could see them scoring from the free kick. We'd learnt nothing from Saturday.

I've not seen the second on the tele but it did look like the ball had gone out, but linesman missed it - he was particularly poor. We've had similar go our way, so no complaints. We wouldn't have scored an equaliser, never mind two.

Took 45 minutes to get out of the parking space.

Just need to beat Sunderland now.

Well that was so poor. Got to keep balance, but it’s the manor of defeat that stings to an awful team.

Been said Bidwell and wright good god. Wright in particular, not acceptable, don’t care how un match fit you are. If I was simms getting hooked and wright staying on, I’d have gone berserk after.

Last night was crying out for Jamie Allen for me. Not sure the reluctance to use him?

worrying trend of leaking goals building again.

last night was down to mindset, we actually started quite well and really dictated game for literally until 1st goal, then just lost every battle, 2nd ball etc etc.

2nd goal looked clearly out also.

Park it, on to Saturday, now a huge game, huge.

As for sheaf, not really sure what to say anymore.

I thought a few people would have a meltdown when we finally lost a game but didn't expect this many.

From the reactions you would think it was Derby who had nearly 70% of the possession and it was us that only had 2 shots on target. I agree we didn't play well but it's difficult against 10 players in the box defending and playing on the break with speed.

Let's try to remember that most of our best players are either injured or coming back from injury. We're playing with a makeshift side trying to get fitness into players. We're in a much better position than most thought possible. We have 3 difficult games coming up but 2 are at home. Sunderland won't be coming here to put all 11 players in the box. Burnley got a player and their manager sent off last night.

Think Rudoni being out is a blocker for the 3-4-2-1 personally. Not sure who could play his role in the squad.

Possibly Torp?

I think we’re gonna have to revert to the flat 3-5-2.

It wasn’t pretty but we stopped leaking goals, and given our next 3 games this is an urgency
It’s hard due to the role he was playing as looking at he was the left wingback in name but played more as a left sided midfielder who cut in.

If he was fit I would of tried Paterson there as defensively you have Bidwell who acts as the left back with Milan coming back to form a 4-4-2

Might try a 3–4-3 next and just play a front three of simms, EMC and saka

Possession meant absolutely nothing. They would have let us knock it about all we wanted like we did.

Agree with that - in addition, Derby seemed to have 3 or 4 men combatting the Sakamoto/ Milan threat, yet when we moved the ball away from that area, we offered nothing from the left (not Wright's fault that he isn't match fit, and like others, surprised he stayed on). I was disappointed that Grimes (others) offered no driving / passing threat through the middle of the pitch, which is where I thought we could have used Jamie Allen. We really needed someone in the centre prepared to run at their midfield/centre backs. Regardless, Derby deserved their win, purely on the basis of us being toothless. Still thought we were unlucky to be behind at half time, but the second goal seemed to completely deflate us, team and fans. The Derby fans really got behind their team, as well - even if they annoyed my best mate and triggered his anger issues 🤣.
