EMC gets a lot of stick in here, he was far better than Wright last night. I like Wright, he's great but i think people see what they want to see sometimes.
Paterson might actually need to start soon regardless with the games coming thick and fast. Could always hook him at half time if he's blowing.

Wright is better on the left and running at defenders - he should get back there and use his pace

Thought Wright was terrible last night. Yakubuesque levels of non movement at times.
Even though I didnt think it was a great performance I thought everyone was OK individually apart from him.

He is better in that position but that doesn't mean shield from all criticism, he was poor last night. Didn't look after the ball, didn't make himself a handful for defenders, didn't make good runs. He's capable of all those things.
Sending him back to the left also means bringing Simms back in and i know many aren't a fan of that either so you can't really win.

Wright needs to go wide left again really. The EMC signing has always been a weird one in terms of squad building regardless of his quality level.

Just noticed Brad Collins kick set up the goal, it went direct to Rudoni. Good on him!
At last a bit of praise for Collins. Personally I think he had a good game. His distribution was good.

Some people need to get used to the fact that our season depends on him and he needs our backing. If it was Dovin in goal last night he would have got nothing but praise.

I agree Clint. Most performances i'd just rate as beige as fuck. His was the only one i'd call out as been actually bad.

In all fairness he only had to face one shot, and it was a tame one. Although they broke well, particularly in the first half, Portsmouth's end product was pretty toothless for the most part.

Distribution was very good from him throughout though.

As someone who's live in a few places in the UK and travelled it extensively with work, I can assure you it's really not.

Granted, like everywhere, it's got it's problem areas but it's a really nice city. Coastline all around it, nice beaches, good shopping at Gunwharf and nice marina at Port Solent. There's a lot to do for families and it's generally a clean enough city.

The people are genuine and down to earth as well. Salt of the earth types.
I've travelled extensively for work and I don't doubt there are some nice bits but where I have worked down there have been boggin.

Haji has those games though, when he’s poor he’s really poor.

Comes up with clutch moments at big times which is why it’s a tough decision to sub him

Not that Haji Wright had a good game last night, nor do I doubt he'd be more effective at LW. But he's scored four goals in four games since moving to CF, so I'm not sure we're about to abandon this experiment just yet.

I think it's more that this is where Wright is very much exposed as a 9. He's nowhere near physical enough and looks very uncomfortable playing with his back to goal, especially when defenders are tight on him. Which they were pretty much all game until he went off.

Funnily enough that will happen when the first choice LW has been out for nearly 4 months....
He's back and EMC is still playing? You seem desperate for an argument but its almost like some players aren't bought as backup, we bought him because we thought he would add to the group and presumably given the amount we paid we hoped he'd push for a starting place. He has...

If we are to get into the POs and there's far more at stake his mentality does worry me though.

He's not going to get the same luxury against better teams.

Mentality is built on easy clean sheets and being thrown into the home fans after a win tho. Wilson has taken on mackem Buffon levels of mythology since his injury but is and has been second and third choice for a reason. Just got to hope Collins can dust himself off, the squad and management seem to be backing him.

Fans just need to suck up their Wilson cope and back Collins for 5 games (hopefully more.) I doubt we see either of them next season.

I think he was intended as the Wright replacement but at this point he’s looking more like a decent back-up player (if we’re serious about winning promotion). I’ve said it plenty of times but we overpaid by a couple of million for him.

I like EMC but I think we need a little more if he’s going to be our starting frontline left winger

What are you on about?

At the time he was brought in, Wright was the first name on the team sheet at LW.

Hence why it was a strange buy. EMC's strongest position is LW and we already had a player there who unless sold was never going to be replaced. He's also looked very uncomfortable when tried out in other positions.

Wright is being shoehorned into the 9 role, which for the most part he isn't all that suited to. He'll no doubt still score some goals but I'd much prefer him on the left where he's far more effective.
