I would have took still being in the tie before the game last night. Stunned.

Before the match, the build-up for us Crewe fans was more of a.. we could get to Wembley than a.. we should get to Wembley.

Whilst driving to the ground and listening to the radio it was all about how many you were going to score and how you were looking forward to winning something, how important it was for the city.. Nothing wrong with that I say. This can be strewed as arrogance, but for me it’s confidence. Selling out a stadium to get behind the team shows what size of club you are and that’s impressive, biggest ever attendance outside the final.. brilliant, I’m glad we were a part of it.

I do think though, you did underestimate us, Coventry City underestimated us. We have a very young team, we have very good loan players, we are just inconsistent. Last season we went 20 games unbeaten to get to Wembley and win. That has galvanised the club and given us belief more than anything else, but for some of your fans to say that this was our cup final.. well.. this just adds fuel to the fire of motivation. We have kids that are watched by 50+ scouts every week. They thrive on occasions like last night.

Football has become about money, not history and not how much support you have. Pure money. Except us. This season, at some point, we will have a full starting 11 that will be all from the academy. These players play with each other from age 8. This has built a very strong team spirit. anyway I’m digressing.. My point.

You outplayed us in all areas, all over the pitch, you didn’t deserve a 3-0 loss, but football is about goals and you didn’t score any and wasted so many chances, it bit you on the bum. Our team is exciting, but like I say inconsistent.. We are quite likely to go 2-0 down at home in 10 mins.. Then anything can happen. However we could go 2-0 up after 10mins.. That’s the way it is with young players. Yes you still have a big task but yes you have a big chance.. To be honest we get more intimidated at home than we do away. The game is wide open.

Forget our bulshy fans, they are kids, most Crewe fans get it, they know that we are unfashionable.. They know that we fight above our station (!) We are however proud of our recent history, proud we can make £8million on players in a single summer and proud to have beaten Coventry away and are reaching out to Wembley. I hope it’s a great game at gresty road, I hope it’s an advert for us both. Don’t think your better than what you are this is what teams like wolves do and it’s what makes small teams want to beat you even more, footballs 150 years old but it means nothing, it’s what you are now that matters. At this point you’re the same as us, League one, mid table, not going up or down.

Good luck for the rest of the season. After February.

PS. Awsome stadum. Stewards need to lose some weight!

Mostly fair comments I suppose. Too many City fans thought we already had it in the bag. I remember Crewe at HR a few years back, I think we had 29 attempts at goal and lost 0-1. Chickens...................don't count them !!

yeh we underestimated crew, that wa sshown by our 25 shots,17 on target...we didnt put the effort in at all did we?

look you countered well and got lucky our keeper was injured

3-0 was lucky..simple as that

As I said to stepson on the way home, you can have 300 shots on goal, but if none of them go in, means nothing. Crewe did what we couldn't and fair play to them.

Good post Simon.

I dont think we deserved to lose 3-0 and we created so many chances on another day we would have won, BUT, we didnt score or take our chances and you did, and take a good lead for the return tie.

I think some fans did understimate you, personally I thought it would be close, we are in good form, but then you can beat anyone on your day. As you say you have a lot of home grown players, which is the sign of a good well run sustainable club, and I certainly congratulate you on that. I like the way Crewe work and think many clubs including us, can learn some form your model.

I would take at this point you winning the JPT and us making a successfull trip to Wembley in the play offs!

Crewe have become our bogey team of late.

We seem to struggle against well organised teams and Crewe have some very good young players.

In football sometimes you have those days and have to accept it. We did everything but score. I thought our players played their hearts out and never gave up but just lacked that killer ball. Add to that your goalie and very well executed counter attack tactics and it meant we had a dreadful result.

In fairness the football league needs more crewes and less man cities as well. Bringing all those players through is brilliant.

I live near Crewe so always take a close interest in them. My wife works with loads of Crewe fans (she is in for a tough day!!). I never underestimated Crewe, they have a fantastic youth system, and always seem to pull a rabbit out of the hat. They are tightly run club with a small budget, Because of the size of the town, its always going to be hard, having to sell their best players get much further than the championship. I for one don't think this game is over yet, but it will be hard. I'm still looking forward to the second leg and my shortest away trip, about 8 miles.

Good post and fair comments. I think the majority of our fans have now realised that nothing in this game is a fore-gone conclusion anymore!

Who are the two lads they made the £8million from?

Sorry, but who signs up to a rival team forum to place a polite and diplomatic post that subversively gloats about how your team, the supposed underdogs, were triumphant against the odds. I see what you're saying, but really...?

You're four points below us in the league with two games in hand, the last time we played you in the league, you won. So I see this as a very evenly matched game, and we may well have more if we both make the playoffs. The stats point at us having the upper hand for much of last night's game and you guys getting lucky with your counters. It's very unfortunate and depressing when your team loses such in such a way. So thanks for your sympathy, but I'm sure we'll get over it...

Who are the two lads they made the £8million from?

Nick Powell - Man Utd - £6million (this guy will be a star when his chance arrives)
Ashley Westwood - Aston Villa - £2Million

As for setting up on a rivals board, why not. Footballs the beautiful game.. Not the bloodied game.. Engaging with other fans is what we should all do.

I had a chat with a few Crewe fans on the way out last night, they reckon apart from this lot at the moment, Crewe have a decent set of 15 year olds coming through again. You have to hand it to old Dario, he's done wonders over the years !!

Largely agree - I think maybe it wasnt as much we were complacent but I do think there was an element of us thinking it was all about us. we did sell out 31,000 and would probably fill your ground faster then you for the away leg, but its still the same for both clubs and maybe our mindset was a bit off because of it.

I know alot of our fans liked it but I really couldnt get on board with this whole JPT video, the one they showed before kick off. firstly, cos they used snow patrol, and secondly I dont think you make a video like that until AT LEAST you have made Wembley and the final. it was as if we were saying 'weve done it' when there was a job to be done. If I was an away fan and saw that last night, I would have been thinking 'oh ok, already thought theyve won it then'.

having said that it was a massive fluke scoreline and on the basis of last night we should have already had one foot in the final ;-)

Yep, I remember that. We signed Clayton Ince because that day he was like Gordon Banks, Peter Bonnetti and a salmon all rolled into one.

Last night's result was a freak. You can't criticise the team at all. The only criticism for me was the fools rushing out after their second one went in. Some were coming past us saying "City are shit, this is why we don't come, never coming again, etc etc." Tossers. I hope they don't.

All the moans usually about us simply don't hold any relevance last night.

1. Lethargic, not coming out of the blocks and being up for it.

We came out of the blocks flying and we were most definitely up for it.

2. Lack of passion, spirit and fight.

All there in abundance last night. No-one can accuse the team of a lack of passion and spirit.

3. Not creating enough.

25 shots on goal. Tells you all you need to know about how much we created.

4. Lack of domination.

We dominated that match. 57% possession.

None of the usual labels can be thrown at the team last night. We played well, dominated the game, created a stack full of chances but it simply wasn't meant to be.

Play like that again at Gresty Road and I am quite confident we can turn this round.

I agree with 99% of that, just the last line I would question. we play like we did last night and we could well score 3 or even 4 goals - but we would concede one or two as well. we definately need pace at CB in the second leg.

A) We understimated Crewe

B) Crewe played well. Defended well, frustrated us (time wasting from the 25th minute!) and took their chances. I thought the pitch/wind didn't help us. Crewe looked stronger and fitter - which is really important when hacking away in a mud bath.

Nobody thinks that 0-3 was representative of the game - but fair play to them and their canny manager.

Please can Crewe do us the common courtesy of writing us off for the second leg and not taking it seriously!

Thanks for all those positives. I saw us lose at Gresty Road earlier in the year and knew you are a good footballing side with a promising manager. I thought you played it just right last night.

good to see that fans from other clubs can get along. i have to say if your keeper wasnt stunning and if ours didnt go off, we probs would have won. we deserved to get a result but fair play to you, you took advantage when it came to you so congrats

I come to accpet that CCFC have and always will kick you in the nuts. However I may be down at the result as I think the occassion got to the City Players and pumped them up and they tried to hard. What i was pleased about though I sat and watched Two teams from the Old 3rd Division put on a footballing spectacle that would have befitted the Championship. i watch some of the shite on telly and that game last night on TV would have impressed the Neutral supporter no end. good luck to the Alex they did an accomplished job, I do think we will win at the Gresty but it is beyond us to get 4 and so if we can win 1 or 2 nil then I will be happy enough as we need to put some of that attacking play/emphasis:p into the bread and butter games and try and get us into a play off if its a possibility.

Last night is about as good as its ever gonna get for a crewe fan. Enjoy it.

Football goes in cycles, like life. They're one poor age group of youth players away from league two

I see you're from Shropshire, must be hard to type with all those extra digits

Showing some very poor footballing knowledge if you think last night was as good as it will get. Getting promoted to the Championship twice were massive deals because we know deep down we're third or fourth tier at best. Unfortunately you and the rest of this forum believe you should be higher and it clearly rankles. You're only as good as your last game.

We're on an upward curve with Davis. Your downward curve might have ended with SISU but the legacy of a casino that got lucky in the middle of nowhere and barely being able to fill out that white elephant besides Cup finals goes against you somewhat.

Not sure we're going to get a bad group of kids through for a while yet if you're hoping. Fortunately we're learning from already making that mistake and dropped 2 divisions in the last decade, investing well for the future instead of spending our money on amateurish Youtube productions and terrible strikers.

You see it as gloating. I think the OP states a rational viewpoint. He will be a bit more confident in his team but he probably expects Crewe to slip up at some point.....Much the same as most City fans do when we fail at the big games.

Quite like Crewe as a club, we could learn a lot from them. Hope they get back to the championship eventually. Yes, last night they got very very lucky but we were not ruthless enough. We should have been 4 up by half time at least. Crewe's keeper was excellent. Kept you in it first half. We were never the same after Murphy was taken off, clearly the defence did not trust Dunn. Really not sure how your keeper avoided a yellow card with all the blatant time wasting.

Hahaha Genius, an inbred quote from a keyboard warrior. I'm from Coventry. working and living in Shropshire. You're not grooming me are you?
I'm ever so pleased you twice got into the championship. It'll live long in the memory that!!
Telford Utd, Nuneaton and Tamworth all take more away than you...does that embarass you? As for your player trying to get Christie sent off when that idiot ran on, real touch of class that.
Keep the trolling up, one day you might get good at it!

My view is that by us getting to Wembley and get a descent crowd to a final would make the JPT more credible, but with Crewe and Southend its still going to a 20k gate and look like a tin pot event.
Just being honest and my own thoughts but having Coventry in the final would have shown the Trophy to be something better than it is, we are one of only three clubs who could half fill Wembley who were in this compitition.
Crewe cannot fill own stadium or take all tickets last night.
