Who are the Sky Blue Trust (10 Viewers)

I understand the need for such a group and dialogue between the club and supporters but for arguments sake let say you had 10,000 members, what difference does it actually make ?

There are only ever a couple of members meeting with the club so what do the other 9998 do?

I'm a member too.

Whether you agree with them or not, at least they are trying to do something. Much better than just sitting on a keyboard and moaning on a football forum.

They are well intentioned and passionate about Coventry City and they wish to strengthen the bond between the club and the fans.

^^This!
I too am a member, and I too think that at least as a group we are trying to achieve something to secure the future of the club. What are the moaners doing apart from moaning?

Thanks, Michael. I thought "why not?". We should all stick together really now regardless of who we think is to blame for our current woes.

Welcome aboard, Torch!

It's a fair question IMO. I've had a season ticket since the mid 80s doing my bit to secure the future of this club. What do the majority of the 800 members actually do other than show support by being a member? It's just question and I agree with the idea of the Group but I'm weighing up in my own mind what's more important, going every home game and a few away each season or being a member of the SBT.

Well, I've just joined.

Well done that man. We might disagree on some things, but we are all fans.
And if 10,000 or 15,000 or even 20,000 fans were members, then it would be a gropup that would have to be taken seriously by all parties.
Just imagine if the SBT agreed it had to organise a protest and there were 20,000 fans on the streets protesting. Now THAT would get everyone's notice, would it not. People Power!

Torchy - you have restored my faith in human kind mate - thanks for joining. Anyone else who wants to join can do so at the trust website or at the game tomorrow - we have just received permission from the club to do a recruitment drive. So we will be outside the Ricoh signing people up - bring your quid (better than giving it to ACL for 1/3 of pint eh Grendel ;) ) and join up. The more members we have the bigger say we can have with these or any new owners who come in.

Lets assume SISU do pack up and leave town and new owners come in - if there is a fans body representing a large number of the fans do you think they will take all our views in account with decisions they might make? For the past 20 years previous owners have ignored the fans and look how that's gone for them. So join up and lets together make sure the fans are never overlooked again.

I'm not a trust member at the moment, maybe I will one day, and maybe I wont.
I'm open to the idea and not dismissive. But does that mean i'm not wholeheartedly a CCFC fan / supporter / etc., ... No
And just because you don't join the trust, doesn't mean you are being hypercritical of them.

Turning up to the games and supporting the team shows me that there are fans out there who give a dam.

I'm worried by the idea that a member of an 800 strong supporters group will have an elected member on the clubs board as a representation of the fans, as they don't represent enough of them.

We're all members off CCFC.

Agree with you Gaz. I cannot see the Trust getting board representation, it has 800 members. If, and when, the Trust has 10k membership maybe their opinions will be listened to. At present the club pay lip service to the Trust.
I do think supporter representation is a good thing.

Join and help change those numbers then

The Trust is an established body with some 700+ members who have an interest in representing the supporters of CFFC.
What they say or do is up to them and their members.

I personally applaud their efforts while at the same time find it for the most part irrelevent. Sorry.

You can never represent the supporters as a whole just a fabled few. You can't speak for everyone I'm afraid and what is startling to me is the approach they assume to take. It must be remembered we are all followers and supporters but CCFC is a private business, not a private members club we are all subscribed to.

Like it or not the owners will do as they wish or believe is right for them. So would I, if it was my business. The only thing the Trust can do is help represent opinion of the supporters based on the body of their membership. Much like this forum and others with thousands of members the football club could listen to opinion from.

For the Trust to suggest they get a foothold in the boardroom, effect decision making is not laudable but laughable.
If the membership were to increase to 15 or 20,000 then they may have a case for being heard.

Don't get me wrong if the club listens to you then great but is what you are saying what the rest of us want? I have listened to some of the stuff from their spokesman and I don't think he is qualified enough to represent the greater good, not for me at any rate. It's not my club, it's not your club either. It's a business. The word 'club' is really a misnomer. Do CCFC hand out memberships?

Good luck with all you do as well intentioned as you are but this current mess will get sorted without you.

Who are CFFC Paxman????

Well why not join up ?

Exactly Steve, why not.
A lot of us on here have been on some sort of committee either presently or in the past, anything from a sports club committee to a social club committee, at work ,or even in your neighbourhood, and its really the only way your voice/views can be heard.

At meetings all memebers ideas should be took down and recorded and be talked over there and then or at the next meeting, so your opinion is heard and discussed. These meetings can get very heated, the weak one's skulk off and resign if they don't win every argument, but the stronger ones stay and fight for what they believe in.

On every committee I've been on there were many different opinions on how to go forward and maximise the ground /building, but the meetings always heard everyons voice, some debates you win ,some you lose, but at least your voice is heard

I do think supporter representation is a good thing.

Even the current number represents 10% of a match day attendence and is being taken seriously by both sides in the dispute as having some legitimacy. From a standing start a year ago when the membership was 3 to over 800 today thats not a bad effort. Obviously membership of 10k would be fantastic and would certainly make sure any owner would have to take the views and needs of fans on board so everyone please sign up and lets see if together we can make sure that fans are not overlooked like they have been by the current owners and the previous regimes at City. To all those who say why should I join I would say why shouldn't you join - the club is in deep trouble and your membership will swell the growing voice the fans have now and with future owners and all for just a £1.

Do you know exactly where around the ground your likely to be located Jan?

Forgive me, but it seems like kind of a circular argument being put forward here.

"The trust hasn't got enough members to make a difference/claim to speak for the fans, so why should I join?".

It's a quid, or one whole Hoffman, as Fisher calls it. You could join and probably still afford to go to games home & away.

At casino prices, I'd say it's more like 20% of a pint ;)

I'm in.

I don't really get why more people don't join, it's not expensive and if you don't like what they're doing you can join up and say so and maybe get things changed!

Could something maybe be added to season ticket forms to give people an option to join the trust?

There will be a desk in the Casino foyer (thanks to our sponsors G Casino ;)) and Trust personnel will be there and outside the Casino and others will be on the other side of the Ricoh on the walk up from the rail underpass so we can catch those coming from Car Park C and the retail park. We will be easy to spot as we will have on Trust T-Shirts and if the weather doesn't improve we will be Sky Blue with cold!

The most successful Trust lead club is Swansea and they have a system where your automatically a Swans Trust member when you buy a season ticket unless you specifically opt out. It is a good idea but at present we have to be careful to keep our independence.

Why would anybody put a thread on designed simply to ridicule those who are simply trying to do their bit for their club, our club in fact. I notice cityoldboy you have gone to ground. Instead of hiding behind your keyboard come back and justify your crap.

So did I. OK, only a tenner but it would have been rude not to. I'm just trying to influence Jan/Michael into giving me the seat on the board. :p

I have made a donation to the cause, in excess of the joining fee>

To become leader (which I am not by the way) or any post on the board only costs a £1. Then as a member you can be democratically elected to the post by your fellow members if they decide you are the best person for the role.

Just read that and sorry didn't mean it to sound so pompous!! ;)
