Review the results from our 2013 CCFC Supporters' Survey

We thank fans for taking part in the Support Consultation Survey. We appreciate and respect people's views and assure you that we listened.

We understand the disappointment felt regarding the ground share decision. We did not want to move from the city for even a temporary period and we are committed to return.

If there had been an economic option which would have allowed us to stay at the Ricoh we would have pursued it but there was no proposal on the table in time for us to make realistic plans for the coming season.

We and are working hard to find ways to ease the financial and transport issues that come with this decision and will issue further details shortly.

CCFC Supporter Survey Results

From a total of 3,015 responses to the survey, we found most fans said they were born in Coventry and started supporting their local team as children. Often through the influence of their family, their fathers in particular. Another common reason is through school friends. There are a number of fans who have moved to the area and have become ardent supporters since.

To fans, Coventry City Football Club represents passion and pride, particularly in their home town, and it is part of their identity. It is a big part of fans’ lives and most have made friends and feel part of a family.

To summarise, our findings showed:

• 59.6% of people who completed the survey have been a Season Ticket holder in the last 5 seasons.

• 41.9% of people who have not been a Season Ticket holder in the last 5 seasons attend up to 12 matches per season.

• The average length of how long supporters have been Season Ticket holders is 7 years, although there are a number of supporters who have been for longer.

• The biggest percentage of fans at 37.1% travel less than 5 miles to get to home matches. 22.1% of supporters travel over 41 miles.

• 24.5% of fans said they would support the club at an alternative stadium in the short term.

Love for the team and loyalty to the team regardless of the situation was cited as the main drive for the 24.5% of fans who said they would support the club at an alternative stadium. A number of fans added that this would only be viable in the short term as Coventry is still the home of the football club.

Fans who would not support the club elsewhere expressed the view that the club belongs in Coventry and will lose its identity by being elsewhere. Many felt it isn’t right to change stadiums when there is already one fit for purpose. Other fans said they can’t afford to or justify travelling regularly.

It was highlighted by fans that there was a need for honesty, clear communication and a plan for the future. Many suggested that cheaper ticket prices or sensible travel options might encourage them or others to travel to another stadium in the short term.

2500 tops next season then . Even Sixfields will seem like a morgue. Im sure the players will get themselves up for the occasions though or maybe not.

Sorry, but I am very shocked its as low s 75% , I do not know anyone who filled that in and said thy would go. My thoughts were it would be close to 95%.
The only ones who may agree to o are those from GMK, as they are a very strange group.

given this survey was conducted before we actually confirmed a ground move ,id suggest the figure that will actually go be less than 25%, probably about 15% ,as i literally do not know anybody that will go ,apart from a few on here

I thought it would be slightly lower that would go to be fair, but it was never going to be as much as 95%.
I've said many times, more people will go than people on here think.

Edit: Good point above.

the 75% was also before they said Northampton, maybe the 25% thought it would be a bit closer to home

No wonder they delayed the results! That was asking fans if there was "no other option" and in the "short term" would they attend and still over 3/4 said no! I think with the news that it may be 5 years...certainly not a short term arrangement....and that there may now be another option then if the survey was done again the results would be far worse for Timmy & co....

Look how the question is phrased:
With no other option than looking at an alternative venue to host our matches, would you attend games at another stadium outside of Coventry in the short term, to help preserve the long term future of your club?

I answered yes but there's no way I'm going to Northampton because it's clear to everyone there is an alternative - playing at the Ricoh. And i bet if they took the survey again today there wouldn't be anywhere near as many people answering yes.

I think the 5 years admission would make a big difference too as a few of those who said on here and GMK they would back it seemed to be thinking a new stadium would be built far more quickly...some seemed to think we'd be moved in within a year!

I'd be interested to know what percentage of the percentage who said they would go live outside of the city and already travel a considerable distance to the ricoh.

That question regarding the groundshare was hardly phrased objectively and even then it only got 25% support.

So Canley,Tile Hill,Willenhall,Binley,Ernesford Grange,Whitley green lane etc are less than 6 miles from the Ricoh?
I don't know but if you give me a while i'll pop out and drive there from all of those locations and come back on here later to let you know, i want half the petrol money though. ;)

I live in Portsmouth so I'd be one of those, of course it didn't say if it would be closer or further away so didn't really have any influence on my answer. But if only 25% said yes, given the way the question was phrased and the fact it was before all this rubbish about playing at Northampton wonder how low it would be now.

If it was done again now it was 95% unfortunately some refused to believe SISU Were capable of Northampton or that the FL would allow it.

I agree. If you did the survey now, with the northampton deal done (not in the west midlands too) i think it would be much lower than 22%

"The answer you get depends on the question you ask."

Still, only a few weeks, we'll know for sure then.

Let me explain how these results are skewed in favour of SISU's argument... they choose the fan sample from a database of the more regular attendees.. they did not poll the casual attendee at all.

Therefore it is clear that if 75% of the more regular attendees said no, then the percentage of a typical crowd saying no will be significantly higher.

The other thing they gloss over is the fact that the connections the long distance travellers have to the city, a lot come in to visit their relatives and combine it with a match.. Northampton isn't the same.
