We are moving to Coventry with hubby's job in December, would appreciate any advice on a good area to live, someone told me not to live in Binley as its a rough area. I didn't go with my hubby to his job interview but plan to visit in 2 weeks time, so if anyone can help and steer me to good area's I would be grateful. We are going to rent.

I suppose it depends on a lot of things, what areas are you 'used to' - how much rent, distance from place of employment.i personally live in Ash Green but dont see many houses for rent in this area find it quiet enough. ( suppose you could ask the Council if the could rent you the Ricoh Arena as its not used at the moment LOL).
there are good a bad areas all over the city surprised that Binley has a bad rep though as it is on the outskirts of the City limits.
how far from the centre do you want to live?

Move anywhere except for next door to me!

Only areas I would say avoid would be Willenhall, Wood End and some parts of Tile Hill/Canley, Stoke and Wyken.

Coundon isn't bad, Potters Green, Woodway Park, Finham, Styvechale. There's a few nice areas to be found. I live right on the edge of Coundon/Radford/Keresley. A few feet in either of the directions and I would be classed as being in another area mind.

Do you want to be near the city centre or would prefer the outskirts?

Funnily enough I think there's nice bits to most areas in Coventry, but conversely rough parts in most places too. The nature of cities I guess. Personally I like Earlsdon and Chapelfields, but you're surrounded by students over there these days and rents are relatively high. Styvechale is kind of posh (which is why I've never lived there) and supposedly good for families, (County) Coundon is good if you like the Irish and has some decent schools, the smarter parts of Tile Hill and Eastern Green aren't too bad either imho. Not much knowledge of the other bits of town. Binley Woods might be handy for the new stadium ;) or if you're a millionaire, Kenilworth Road.

All mho, there's lot on here who will think differently no doubt!

spwaverley4916, we have 'no' chance of the council housing us, we have lived abroad for many years and now coming back to UK. Im surprised too about Binley as it looks pretty nice on wiki, maybe I need to drive around there when Im up in Coventry next week.
Thanks for your input

Hi Otis, would prefer to be over nearer the airport as that's where hubby will work. Just had look at Coundon area, and the crime rates, that don't look bad. Appreciate your comments and have noted the area's, thanks.

Might be worth looking at nuneaton and Bedworth too, you get more bang for your buck and decent school catchment areas are reasonably priced.

Out of interest is there any specific reason you have chosen a football forum to ask these questions?

Oh and which countries have you lived in and which did you like/hate the most?

Just bored at work so feel free to ignore me if you find them intrusive.

I live in Green Lane/Finham, really nice area, most areas are decents, the dodgy areas have already been pointed out on this thread. Good Luck!!!

If your Hubby is working at the Airport then South East side will be more convenient. I Think that Binley is OK but check out first as some nutter is thinking of building a football stadium there. A little further out and you find Wolston. I really like it there.

Assuming it's Coventry Airport you mean, then I reckon Finham or Styvechale as your upmarket areas, Cheylesmore or Whitley if you're looking at somewhere less expensive. Ryton or Bubbenhall are a good shout for village life out that way as suggested elsewhere.

If it's Birmingham airport, then Eastern Green/Allesley Green as the posher bits, Tile Hill, Allesley Park or Coundon are also that side of town. Meriden/Balsall Common/Berkswell for village type stuff near BHX.

Good luck. :)

Yeah if it is Birmingham then not a bad place to look would be at all of the houses going up on Bannerbrook Park and if you have a few quid maybe even look at Knowle.

I live Bedworth area. Have done for 50 years. Coventry areas I may consider, eastern Green, 1960/70s houses mostly. Like all areas it is worth looking at crime stats. I have a good idea of the other areas in Coventry and there are some places I would not want to live. There have been a lot of new builds in Bedworth area over the past 30 years. I would look in areas within walking distance of the town centre if planning to make this area home. Bus services good. Any side of the water tower estates are good areas. If you like quiet areas you may need to think about motorway noise. Like anywhere, you get out of it what you put in.

Look at Bulkington as well.

Keresley Coventry bit is bland.

Hi Last Garrison, noooo wont ignore you and questions are not intrusive, I just clicked google search for Coventry Forum and this site popped up, then I see the General Chat option, so here I am. I lived in Southwest Florida just above the everglades for 7years, and from there we moved across to Southern Spain, about 45mins up from Gibraltar. Loved USA, the way of life, travelling all over America when hubby had holiday from work. Not so keen on the hurricanes we had, I got caught in Katrina in Miami when it first hit land and wow that was bad, then Wilma hit where we lived, we had no electricity for 2 days and at the height of the hurricane it was pretty scary. From there we moved to Spain, we are here now and have been for 2+years. Very pretty, wonderful people and culture, its very Spanish where we live, not like Malaga and Benidorm. Time however for us to move back to UK and a job has arisen at Coventry airport. We are now arranging to move our stuff across to Coventry and make it, hopefully our permanent home, so want to get it right of course. We are looking for rental property and maybe buy later when hubby is secure with job.
Hope that answers our questions. Bored at work ? Maybe you need career change.....lol

Try looking at the south beyond the boundaries - Meriden, Hampton in Arden Balsall common or if work is the north again look at villages in that area (not familiar with that side but pailton, Southam etc.)

Thanks Flying Fokker, Ive had a look at crime stats in Coventry areas and yes few areas don't fancy living in. Bedworth seems nice place, and if you have stayed there for 50years it must be good area to live. How long does it take to get to airport roughly ? Yes like quiet areas don't want to get stuck living somewhere near noisy motorway's.
