Sunderland eye Cyrus Christie transfer from cash-strapped Coventry

League One side rejected an offer from Huddersfield for their right-back in the summer but £1million bid could change their tune

Sunderland and Championship side Bolton want talented young Coventry defender Cyrus Christie.Right-back Christie, 21, has developed into a regular for the cash-strapped League One club, who rejected a bid from the Trotters' second-tier rivals Huddersfield for him in August.
However, a seven-figure offer from the Black Cats is likely to tempt Coventry to sell the 6ft 2in ace, who is a nephew of former boxers Errol and Lloyd Christie.
Sunderland may sell striker Connor Wickham to provide new manager Gus Poyet with funds for signings.

Yep ... that's about the gist of it ... inevitable, but if we have to lose someone, then we have at least got some cover in that area right now and hopefully we can then keep all others ?

Clubs and agents already making calls to find out who Wilson is with and his situation with the club,, could be a very good offer coming in Jan from higher league clubs.. This is from within the agents circle not rumour or guess work before anyone starts to question post,, 1 midlands club and 2 northern clubs were mentioned....

Difference being Christie will be out of contract whereas Wilson has just signed one.

The report says "cash-strapped" Coventry City........................... I thought Fisher said we could fund all losses for 10 years????? Why would we need to let him go for a measly Million? we are losing that a month and SISU dont care.

(sarcasm) for those who aren't sure.

Christie has the same agent as Jack Wiltshire and I think Wilson has the same one too. I believe Christie.s agent is a bit smarter than Waggott

Football agents/parasites/ten percenters or is it fifteen percent nowadays, call em what you like, have a lot to answer for in the game. I put them in the same category as hedge funds, scum, living off the backs of others.

His head hasn't been in the right place for quite sometimes, probably turned by his Agent but who knows?

Very inconsistent over recent weeks, maybe like a few others he'll take the money and run but 'warm the bench' instead of playing regularly?

Like Keiren Wesrwood?

He's playing regularly in the top flight, actually. Or at least Keiren Westwood is.

If he wants to go then get a good price for him and let him leave, Cyrus hasn't been on top form for a while and like many have said Cyrus' head has been turned.

To be fair I think Christie has been very poor over the last few months , 1 million is a bit cheap but I would def sell for a bit more ,

Let him go........his heart isn't at coventry anymore as his performances have proved over the last few weeks. Definately a case of his head being turned by his money grabbing agent!.....Good Luck to the lad and I'm sure he will enjoy warming the bench just like Bigirimana and Westwood for the first two seasons.....We have plenty of cover and Philips looks a really good prospect and IMO will be a better defender

Didn't someone allege on here the other day that some of the players were unhappy because Waggott had been hawking people around? I'm not saying that allegation is true and I'm not saying that it is false because I don't know the truth. But, equally, it might be unfair to jump to the conclusion Christie turned his own head...

How long is left on his contract? Without knowing that, a £1million valuation seems low.
But Sisu never fail to extract maximum return on player sales do they?...

I think (hope) Wilson is a Cov fan who wants to play for the team, so I'd hope he's less likely to move.

Christie seems to think he's a bit big time since bids came in, as others have said we're probably better for cover at RB than anywhere else so may as well get what we can.

One million is a bit over exaggerated I think, his contract is up at the end of the season as well.

I agree that if his contract is up at the end of the season, then the price will be lower. But as one of our young stars, you would have hoped the management would have looked to avoid losing him for a pittance and sorted that out - as, credit to them, they have with Wilson. When they were down here, didn't Southampton manage to extract more for their players when they sold them? And that was a few years ago.

I reckon if it goes to tribunal we will get maybe 300k.

No doubt it will all be sisus fault but I think we have cover for him

As they have said they will cover the losses from the move I expect whatever they get goes to the Manager ,if not their word is'nt worth Jack and it will be their fault.

Of course it would be Sisu's fault. If we were a team playing in our own ground, not constantly dipping in and out of embargo, not constantly in court, not under the threat of total shutdown - he might - just might, think CCFC was a decent place to play football.
Take your head out of the sand Nick. Get your arse off the fence, just for once.

Sorry, I forgot no other league one teams lose players to higher clubs it is just us when they are young and have potential. My head isn't in the sand, I am just being realistic.

Even if we were at the Ricoh, could we afford to match wages?

Southampton were selling players like Gareth Bale. We're selling Cyrus Christie.

If anyone goes within reason I'm not too bothered. I think we are more about the team than individuals these days. So if 1 or 2 go we have players to slot in without too much worry.

I'd take a Million use it to get Chris Maguire in from the Owls.
