Not as devasting as the 10% pay cut all the players had to take to fund the new stadium. That really destroyed morale.

at least we 100% would not be leaving the ricoh, that was great.

True enough, Astute.

I seem to remember that the Walsall chairman said he had turned them down on a ground share. And the main bid for our strikers was a loan bid.

We know that all of our players have a price. I wouldn't like to guess at what price would be acceptable or what price will be offered. But nobody can say that they will leave or stay with any confidence.

He's worth more than £1m to us playing for the next season and a half anyway. How much would 30-40 goals cost us to replace, before you get onto the cost to the team or Wilson's development.

They'd be insane to sell him. One of those players worth more to us than anyone would pay at his age IMO.

This.

If he helps bring Wilson on, we could have some serious money for Wilson in next 18 months, not the chicken feed we are talking about for Clarke

With Clarke's form this year he has to be in the mind of any team in the top 6 of league 1 or the bottom 6 of the championship?

But that happens when you have anyone who hits the net regularly. Good players get themselves noticed and in turn creates interest. You can't escape that.

Of course there is smoke without fire, or did Baker, Clarke, Wilson, etc all leave in the last transfer window without me noticing?

The good thing is we got Joe Cole in on loan.

I gaurantee that when Cork came in on loan, there were quite a few Cov fans scratching their heads going 'what, this isn't right...'

True. Doesn’t mean he’s going anywhere though. Look at Paddy Madden. Leading goalscorer last year and can’t get a game this year. I think we are lucky that Clarke has a bit of “history”. Maybe his nomadic days are over and he’ll show some loyalty.

If he goes he goes. It's not like it isn't the norm now? Anyone below top 4 sells their best players. It's just whether we replace him or not!

I didn't say he was going, just saying we have to accept the speculation as it is obvious people will have good reason for having him on the radar.

I think we'll finally see what sort of ambitions SISU really have!

Well unless Clarke asks to leave and refuses to play as Dion did, perhaps if that happened and he made it clear that he wanted to move then there isn't much the club could do about it.

This is where the SISUE masterplan falls over. We will struggle to sign players for the club whilst at Sixfields as we evidenced by Andy Webster & Manset being the only permanent signings. We will continually lose any players of quality and eventually the manager if we are treading water in this division.

I'm not so sure he is happy, just because of an interveiw he did after a game (Oldham I think) where he was critical of the younger players stating that they need to grow up. I watched the Youtube version and he seemed quite frustrated and I got the impression then that he might be unsettled or maybe starting to think of a move away. Really hope that it was me looking at it wrong, would like to think that the fact he has settled would benefit us.

Oh right, you decide to try and pick holes in my post by saying things that I haven't even mentioned in this thread. Thought all I said is that Leon has moved around a lot or are you going to try and say that isn't true ?

Dion didn't ask to leave. He had just signed another contract when his last one had ran out. He got sold when he didn't want to leave. Our chairman at the time got him to sign so he could cash in on him instead of Dion getting a much higher pay offer as there wouldn't have been a fee to pay for him. That is why he refused to play in the cup game which was the day before he left.

Players don't always get to stay at a club they are happy with. Just like players don't always get to leave clubs when they are unhappy.

You said there is no smoke without fire, I said that there is loads of smoke without fire, and quoted a few recent examples.

Therefore your initial statement about "no smoke without fire" is nonsense.

Wolves strongly linked with Nahki oop here, he won't be cheap, how much cash do Wolves have? No disrespect intended to Clarke but if they can afford Wells they are not going to be looking at Clarke, Wells will be off within 2 seasons at a big profit.

I dont disgaree Astute, I guess I was trying to point out that it works both ways and sometimes it can be the clubs fault, and sometimes the players, and sometimes its just a rumor and fekk all happens.

Dealing with idiots gets a little tiresome sometimes, but they tend to run riot on here if not controlled.

By the way, is that you sucking an invisible cock in the "smiley" type thing?

My life definitely not as exciting as yours, but each to their own.

I can't see Wolves coming in for Clarke. They fucked him off years ago. I can see them going for somebody like Wells, young and pacy. They lacked something like that when we played them.

More proof he didn't want to leave or move for the money?

Dion made his 100th league appearance for Coventry on the first day of the 1997/98 season. He marked this occasion with a hat-trick to give Coventry a 3-2 victory over the highly fancied Chelsea. The Sun speculated on 17th December 1997 that Dublin was a target for Bryan Robson's Middlesbrough. Leicester City and Crystal Palace were also rumoured to be interested as Coventry sought to regain some of their money spent on Romanian international striker Moldovan. Dion's impressive form for Coventry City earned him a surprise call-up to Glen Hoddle's England squad for the pre-World Cup friendly against Chile in February 1998 and made his debut in the 2-0 defeat. He seemed to jump above Robbie Fowler, Stan Collymore, Emile Heskey and Chris Sutton in England's pecking order. As transfer deadline day approached, Dion was linked with £ 5million moves to Blackburn and Liverpool (who supposedly were keen on his defensive abilities).

The end of the season saw Dion finish joint top Premiership marksman. His 18 goals being equaled by Chris Sutton and Liverpool's Michael Owen. This resulted in increased transfer speculation with champions Arsenal the media's favourite for Dublin's next destination. According to the Daily Mirror, new Newcastle boss Ruud Gullit has supposedly made a £7million bid for Dion to partner Alan Shearer. The News of the World reported on October 25th 1998 that Blackburn are lining up a £6million bid for Dublin who is supposedly angry with Coventry about new book "Staying Up" written with the approval and co-operation of Coventry chairman Bryan Richardson. In one section, Richardson is involved in alight-hearted conversation with Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson over the size of Dublin's manhood. Although Coventry and Blackburn agreed a £6.75million transfer, Newcastle, Leeds and Aston Villa entered the race making improved offers for Dion's services.

Despite better personal terms offered by Newcastle and Blackburn, Dion opted for Aston Villa so not to disrupt his family as they could stay in the Midlands. He transferred eventually for £5.75 million and made his debut for Villa in the 3-2 home victory over Tottenham on 7th November 1998 where Dion scored twice. A hat trick followed in his second game which was a 4-1 victory over Southampton before getting two in Villa's 4-2 defeat at home to Liverpool.

The Wiki entry could have been written by that greedy c**t. Fuck Dublin. It proves that he was offered even more money by Blackburn but turned that down for family reasons. Not that he didn't go for more money. Newcastle weren't even in for him. It was Middlesbrough,

Why didn't he come out at the time and say what the score was?

Why did he refuse to play at Luton?

Who said anything about Wiki?

Middlesboro didn't try and sign him until 2000. Richardson agreed a deal with Blackburn without Dion having a say. Dion refused to sign. This alerted other clubs that Richardson wanted to sell him. He did say at the time what was going on. But your hatred of Dion has always shown through your posts of him. He resigned for us when he didn't have to. He could have gone anywhere. But Richardson just wanted the money. It was only at a later date that we saw how much our club needed the money to stay afloat. The best dead Dion could get without uprooting his family was Villa. Richardson was unhappy as he got 1m less for him than he had already agreed with Blackburn. And I don't blame Dion for not playing in that cup game. Richardson treated him like shit and the deal was already signed. Why should he have shown loyalty to Richardson after what he did to him?

He could certainly have chosen a better club to move to from us, but we have to remember it was a forced move.

Dublin is a legend, end off. its a shame he went to the Vile but then it would have been a shame wherever he went. He had ambition, you cant blame him for that. it was that ambition that made him want to quit reserve football at Man U and come to Coventry.
