Is AFC / Phoenix a step closer ? (3 Viewers)

Any hopes of SISU agreeing to go back to the Ricoh looks even less likely after their latest legal action. Northampton it is for the forseeable future. The new stadium "the fisher bowl" still seems to be out there in the realms of fantasy.

the next few years will see us drift further, whilst SISUE pursue legal actions etc...Other clubs try to increase their fan base, manage their PR, build relations with the local community - SISUE do the opposite.

I'm going to the emirates next Friday but my passion for CCFC is drifting and will continue to do so under this regime and lets be honest they ain't going nowhere.

AFC or Phoenix type club - is this the answer. CCFC as a brand has history but its value is surely in its potential support, club owners take this for granted as supporters rarely change clubs.

Sorry mate but I'd give it all up. I'm halfway there with this Northampton bs. Support England instead. I've been to a fair few away games and would rather do that. It's cccc or nothing for domestic footy for me.

Well that's a bit defeatist isn't it. Did Wimbledon fans just give up? I respect them more than any others.

We need a football team, but one owned properly - with the fans having a controlling stake.

If we could retain a chunk of our support then the rise through the leagues would be a great experience.

As I've said before, the city of Coventry needs a professional football club.

If sisu are determined to never play in the city again then we need to provide Coventry with its football club.

It's Coventry City for me too, but if they stay away from Coventry, then they won't be Coventry anymore and I would back a new club at that point.

If a new team formed now as an altenative to CCFC and I knew the City be away for 5 years or more, I would follow them while supporting the City from afar.

This new team though would have to be a serious venture with money behind it and a real desire to enter the higher leagues.

I don't get a sense of that with Coventry United. They have set their stall not to be in competition with CCFC. Whether their stance would change if City stayed away I don't know.

If a new club was started what size stadium would it need, it certainly could never afford to play at the Ricoh, until they reached second tier (Championship at present).
Perhaps ground share with CCFC in the new stadium!!

It would have to play at Nuneaton or Leamington, which defeats the object or perhaps CCC will donate some land for the Club!!

Agree there, people will gradually change their mind the longer nothing definite happens about a new ground.

I think it is now clear that 4 years from now is the minimum possible time needed before a new stadium could be available, as it stands, there is no land & no planning application. And god knows where SISU are really thinking about, if at all?

If a Phoenix club started in Cov or Nuneaton was rebranded and relocated then I would go and watch them until CCFC returned. Well that would be the intention but if I got into the new club then in all honesty I'd probably just stay with then even if CCFC return in 4 or 5 years.

I guess I can see a scenario where Cov are playing in or near Cov but in a rubbish stadium. Given that a reformed Nuneaton could rapidly climb the leagues then after 4 years watching them I seriously doubt I would go back.

Unless anyone knows different, Trust position is they'll only do afc if ccfc is liquidated.

Some of us kcic-ers looked at this pre christmas and very quickly realised starting a new club is a huge undertaking and completely impossible for 2014/15. Plus, support for a new club is growing but is still relatively small. In wanting to do something about football in Coventry we looked at different options and ended up with the sponsorship of Coventry Sphinx (see http://keepcovincov.weebly.com/kcic-supporting-football-in-cov---with-coventry-sphinx.html). Sphinx is now the senior team in Coventry, grew out of the car industry in the 1940s and is very much part of the City's heritage. It's not everyone's cup of tea but well worth a visit just to see what you think.

Never a truer word spoken. The Club with all the history, FA Cup win etc. went bust and is being liquidating. That isn't the club supporters are following now.

SISU acquired the branding rights and a few assets of the old club with Football League approval. There's an argument that the SISU Company (Otium) is no more Coventry City than Coventry United. They're certainly less 'Coventry' than Sphinx who have a history with the city.

Supporters need to be aware that they're not supporting the Coventry City they knew (and loved). But a startup club with a few assets and a similar name. The CCFC we all supported is long gone.

You are supporting an AFC team - the old club is dead and being liquidated.

Be careful, you're not supporting the CCFC that won the FA Cup but an asset stripped start-up under the name 'Otium'. Branding rights and the Football League have made it so.
