Norris and William Hall considered open spaces in Battersea and Harringay, but nothing met their requirements. Highbury, north of the River Thames, would mean close proximity to another club - Tottenham - something Norris wanted to avoid. But the nearby underground station would increase the Club's chances of attracting large crowds and made Highbury a compelling option.
After lengthy negotiations, Arsenal paid £20,000 for a 21-year lease. Objections to Arsenal's move north soon emerged. Tottenham and Clapton Orient, then playing at Homerton, were dismayed at Arsenal's close proximity, and local residents were unhappy too. But Arsenal were allowed to stay at their new home after the League Management Committee turned down an appeal by residents and nearby clubs.
The final game at the Club's old Manor Ground was a 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough on April 26, 1913. Soon after the move, Woolwich Arsenal become known as The Arsenal (although its official name was 'Arsenal') and Norris set about ploughing money into the Club's new home.

In four months the new pitch was levelled, a new grandstand was partly built and terracing and turnstiles were installed. By the time Arsenal played Leicester Fosse in their first game at Highbury on September 6, 1913, Norris had found an incredible £125,000 to invest in the Club.
Life began well with a 2-1 win against Leicester Fosse, Scottish international Andy Devine scoring Arsenal's first goal. Norris' next target was First Division football, and Arsenal's team seemed equipped to deliver it. But within a year of Arsenal's first game at Highbury, Europe was at war. Norris would have to wait.

When did she last quote that though? We found out through the FOI act that they were not in advanced talks with two local councils as they said they were. All we have had since is a few pictures of a stadium and questions on what we want in it.
The golden egg is the Ricoh and everything that comes with it. If they fail to get it cheap like they are attempting then the next best thing is to negotiate a fair rental agreement. If they are unwilling to do so they will have to build a stadium or go. What would be worth the most to them. Sell to someone with an agreement in place to pay them money as the club improves or liquidation? Or would Joy just be a hard nosed bitch and liquidate our club to show anyone in the future that she doesn't mess about? Or would she take this route hoping that CCC would finally give her what she wants.
There are many options, but I don't see a permanent move to Northampton as one.

If SISU aren't able to purchase the Ricoh liquidation is the most likely outcome. I can't see SISU bankrolling a loss making concern indefinitely and the construction of a new stadium with a 12000 capacity is financially a non starter.

You're probably right, I'm probably being a bit too optimistic. That said there's more chance of us returning to the Ricoh next season than permanently relocating and refranchising in Northampton.

I can feel your pain thai and I felt really down at County on Saturday and thought to myself why do I bother ?But a couple of days on I'm thinking come on snap out of it you're a Coventry City fan of fifty years you won't ever pack it in.Just been down the pub , chewing the fat with the lads , all city fans of 40 years plus following the sky blues , all won't go anymore and the consensous of opinion is we are well on the way to a Franchise club, when Northampton go out the football league it will happen. Fisher and Cardozer have been pals for a long time , the new Northampton manager was on Fishers list before. Pressley will be off in the summer ( who can blame him ), we will merge . It's time people got real, Sisu don't want Coventry city fc, they want the land/ground, they are playing us for their gain. Do city fans want this to carry on any longer, this season Sisu have been so lucky with a good manager ,and good kids, who Gregor Rioch brought through, he has gone, i for one have really have had enough, my mates and me decided today, we will never go again with sisu in charge, that is home ? or away this is about 12 of us plus our kids, no more, i'm expecting the usual suspects on here calling me a "drama queen ", wake up and smell the coffee people.
We're all pissed off with the owners the majority of us detest them,but we still love our club.That's why I'll keep on going as I don't want those wankers in suits to take my support away from me. So come on thai don't let those bastards beat us and terminate our love of Coventry City !

Talking to some MK Dons fans on the train on Saturday and they were angry at our plight.
I said we could end up with no club in the future,and that made them more irate.It shows we're not alone in all this nonsense,at the end of the day we're all fans and the majority sympathetic to what's happening.

I am already doing that ... be it Home or away... whilst these owners are still here I cannot force myself to watching my beloved Sky Blues.
