Just recently we have seen leicester and now wolverhampton promoted , this weekend we watch sheffield united play an fa cup semi final with a realistic chance of making the final , and its all just getting too much now tbh .
This year marks 25 years since i sat with my dad for my first game against nottingham forrest in the old division 1 , we sat in the spion kop we drew 2-2 .
i have seen us finish 11th once in the premier league and 8th in the chamionship , a quarter final of the fa cup v sheffield united , Now call me cynical or depressing but these are the main highlights of the last 25 years , granted i was alive when we lifted the cup but i was 2 years old and knew nothing of it.
i have witnessed my club relegated twice and lose its home to relocate to another city .
How utterly depressing is it to support a club where your hope is false and you have no clear direction for the future , its so hard to keep the faith and fire burning for the club these days .

I doubt that SISU will be around for long once the JR is finally completed. Whether they win or not I can't see them (or their investors) being willing to lose millions each year owning the football club.

It's an annoying waiting game, but the good times are only 10 or 20 years away.

I don't support city for the glory... If thats all I wanted there are other teams I could of picked I support the skyblues because they are my home town team (altho at moment that's not quite true) ... Yes its hard to think of us playing 3rd tier football, I remember the 'good old days ' of 1st division football, the premiere league, players like hutch, Gillespie, Wallace Holton stein glazier and yes it was easier to follow them back then but would I moan about the lack of success maybe, but is it essential to me? NO......

The greatest feeling is when the under dog comes out on top. That's really what makes football. The cup run of 87, the numerous battles to avoid relegation, the times we beat the 'big' teams. We didn't win trophies but we had a lot to shout about.

Even this season there have been some great away days and the support has been brilliant. That's worth shouting about and standing proud with the SBA.

However, we now have owners who don't care one bit for the club or it's fans. Despite the management of the previous regimes they at least were trying to make the club grow and move forward.

As has been said earlier, we can but wait it out to a conclusion, one way or another. SISU will decide our future after the JR and whichever way it goes SISU will still not have our interests at heart.

The JR and the consequences of the result will define if I still have will power to continue my 35+ years association with the sky blues or not. Enough is enough.

agreed, and likewise. but surely a "punt" is the other end of the scale than no ambition, and equally dangerous? it is tricky to get it right, but gradual progression is the key

Unfortunately, in recent years we have had gradual, prolonged, unrelenting regression. Agree that small step sustainable progression is key but don't see much being implemented to help it occur

Whilst Im beginning to doubt we will see the Premier League again any time soon, I was saying to someone today some day we will be back in Coventry, some day we will be moving forward as a club again. When that day comes hopefully it will be twice as sweet after the last few years misery.

We are Coventry City, things have never been great, apart for a few seasons in the 60`s one year in the eighties and a few flatter to deceive moments after that weve never had anything to shout about, its not a new feeling, the years floundering at the bottom of the top flight to right now have born nothing but frustration and misery for us as supporters, yet we are just that, supporters no matter how bad it gets they are still our club and we still support them, well i do no matter what!
If you want glory and something to shout about im sure Chelsea/Man U/Arsenal would happily take your money
Rough with the smooth, rough rough and more fkin rough, it`ll get good eventually probably too late for many tho!

Agree that small step sustainable progression is key but don't see much being implemented to help it occur

I am still very bitter towards the football league. They denied us our fresh start after years of decline by allowing SiSU to put us in admin and buy us back. Clubs like Southampton had a fresh start. I can't help be envious of practically all other clubs as in reality our situation couldn't get massively worse! Just want us to come home...

Maybe, as you say, there wasn't that much to shout about (87 being the exception) and beating the top teams now and again. The comeraderie and away trips to some "Legendary Stadiums" will stay imprinted in my memory. Over the 30+ years in the 1stdiv/Prem. watching the legends of football, Charlton, Best, Law, Dalgleish, and Zola, to name but a few. As you also say Previous regimes actually tried to better the club by bringing in talented players. Not by allowing "Journeymen" who couldn't kick their own arses, let alone a football(I'll let you decide who these players are) and nearly destroying our Academy players (Remember Bigi being dropped for a couple of months because his "Mojo" as they call it had gone) SP has admitted a lot of our "Loans and Freebies" were bad decisions this season. Is that because of restrictions by SISU, or is it because SP isn't a very good judge of players? The only way to find out is to give him proper backing in the transfer market. Don't forget, come the end of the season, all these loanees will be going back to their own clubs, and what does that leave us with?....Youth players.

Every season there are 4 division winners, 3 teams get automatic promotion and 12 in the play offs. You've then got 4 teams getting to Wembley for FA Cup semis and final, 2 in the League Cup and 2 in the Paint Trophy. Obviously some overlap but there is a lot of teams each season getting some sort of success. To go as long as we have with nothing takes some doing. Just compare us to the other West Midlands teams:

Coventry 1987 FA Cup winners.
Villa 2010 League Cup final, 1998 League Cup winners, 2010 FA Cup semi final.
West Brom 2008 FA Cup semi, 2008 Championship winners.
Birmingham 2011 League Cup winners.
Leicester 2014 promotion to Prem, 2000 League Cup winners.
Wolves 2009 Championship winners, 2014 promotion to Championship.
Walsall 2007 League 2 winners, 2001 League 1 play off winners.

We've gone 27 without any success, the next longest is Walsall at 7 years.

Of course nobody picks a team to support, or at least shouldn't, based on their success but being a football supporter is supposed to be something enjoyable. When you never have any success where is the enjoyment? it's not surprising really that people are losing interest.

The one thing we have always had is hope, maybe this will be the year if only we can get in a couple of decent signings etc. Under SISU we've even lost that and when you're supporting a team that hasn't had any success in decades and has no hope of any success in the immediate future its a surprise we've retained the fan base we have, albeit only going to away games.
