I was thinking maybe whoever owned Wimbledon when they went under?

Wimbledon didn't "go under". They were franchised against their supporters wishes to a town 70 miles away.

Which is why I was surprised when CCFS fans expressed their feelings on being moved 35 miles by....taking 7000 to watch Franchise FC and filling their owner, Winkie's, pockets.

Especially when you consider that if Cardoza hadn't taken on Cov for 150k per year, Winkie would have jumped at the chance and you'd now be playing 55 miles away.

As I say wanted to name change, wanted to build a 12,000 stadium, sold players at a whim, cheated to stay in the top league, one year lost an entire squad -- second worst chairman in CCFC history.

Can I just ask, what lasting damage did Jimmy Hill's tenure as chairman do to our club?

You see its because of posts such as this that give you a reputation as a sisu apologist.

Wouldn't make any difference. I wouldn't go either way.

Apart from taking us from division 3 to the top flight and us still being there when he left, what has Jimmy Hill ever done for us.

As for sisu.

The roads, well off course the roads, the 35mile one to our "home" games.

The sanitation, for all the shit we have to take.

The litigation

The relegation.

The administration

And not to mention the debt. Which even a sisu sanctioned administration didn't shake.

Can you and all the other posters on here then please explain why after one game (Birmingham I believe) was there a pitch invasion and a demonstration after the game with fans singing "kill kill kill Jimmy Hill"?

He had put the club into huge debt with his gamble into franchise football. Anyway back to the original point - why the vitriol that effectively forced him out?

As for avoiding relegation under modern day rules we'd have been docked three points in 1976 /7 and relegated.

Wrecked the stadium which had to be dismantled again, spent all the money the club had on a failed external venture arranged contracts for players so eventually they all left at once.

Were you even aware he was a chairman? Bet you just thought he did match if the day.

It is all very well blaming those that are no longer around for our troubles today BUT Shitzu had it within their power to change things right at the outset but they chose not to do so. As the saying goes, "You made the bed now lie in it".

No ACL made the bed and charged us £3267 a night. We had nowhere else to stay so had little choice to accept.

Sisu should have renegotiated that's true enough but that doesn't excuse the rental agreement for me.

No he wasn't as bad as Sisu, I don't agree wirh that. But he certainly wasn't the saint he is portrayed to be.

He didn't wreck the stadium, he put seats in one stand which had to be removed. Which Leeds fans very kindly did anyway.

Also it's a shame more didn't follow his example, if they did the word Hillsborough might not be attributed to a disaster.

Anyhow your points do not indicate that he did lasting damage to the club.

Stadium: Sisu have gotten us into a position where we have no permanent stadium.

Money: Sisu have wasted millions of the club's money.

Players: How is what he did any different to orange ken?

If he destroyed the club, how did we manage to win the cup a few years after he left? How did we manage to stay in the top division for the next 20 years?

And if your gran had bollocks she'd be your grandad.

I'm talking about his legacy not the journey. The club only ever went up the league's during his tenure, he left the club in a far far better place than it was when he found it and we are still proud his legacy to this day. Hence we're proud to be called the sky blues, hence we're still proud to wear a sky blue strip, hence we still proudly sing his song.

If sisu changed the the name would you back them? If sisu changed the colour of our home strip would you back them? If sisu moved the ckub out of the city would you back them? Oh wait, I've just remembered who I'm replying to. Off course the answer would be less to all of them.

Although sisu (through their actions) have inadvertently wrote us a song. How does it go again. ...... we want sisu........

Just to add about people singing for JH's blood. I remember Fester fans singing for Martin O'Neil to get the sack not long after he arrived. I bet there's not one of those fans who don't regret it and not one who wanted him to go when he did. I'm not old enough to remember the JH incident and can't say I know anyone who was there that day and taking part but I'd bet that any that were are no different now to the aforementioned Fester fans.

Last thing to add. Belittling JH in some attempt to big up sisu is pretty low even for you and is just further proof that you're not a CCFC fan you're a council basher and don't mind how you do it.

Hill in his time as chairman / MD;

- Sanctioned ridiculous signings at (e.g. Collier/Jones) Every club makes with hindsight ridiculous signings (Adam Barton?)
- almost bankrupted the club with his decision to invest the clubs money in his American football team At least we are only £40m or so down and sitting in league 1 - good work sisu
- sold any player worth ten pence (other than Steve Hunt of course) We just let them run out of contract and go for free these days e.g Westwood
- wanted to change the clubs name and lodged a request with the football league - Im fed up with being called Covhampton and cant imagine how that came about
- created an abomination of an all seater stadium holding 12,000 Ha ha - SISU wouldnt consider such a thing would they
- rumoured he wanted to move the club to the NEC You are correct seems ridiculous to move your team out of your own city

So yes he was a disaster

Indeed, a discussion on ancient history as a diversion from the real issues.

Without the "ancient history" then chances are we wouldn't even have heard of SISU. You're just as diversionary.

He's probably not aware of former owners - he'd rather we talk about Nuneaton.

Its amusing how uncomfortable the so called better fans are talking about the clubs history. Probably as they no nothing about it.

Ron is in a real confused state. He assumed the answer was Doug Ellis.

Agreed....He made some bizarre/stupid decisions as chairman no doubt.....but to state that he was ever as bad as this current shower of shit is quite frankly ludicrous as everyone on this board knows.....

I normally don't rise to "Wumming", but surprisingly I'm a big fan of JH...not just for what he achieved & did for City, but as a true Gent & a real football man....

in fact, if there is a definition of "a real football man"...I challenge anyone to come up with a better example than Jimmy Hill.....player, union rep, coach, manager, chairman, referee, linesman, TV pundit, moderniser, visionary & revolutionary.

I was lucky enough to meet him in the main stand at the last game of HR.....I like to think it was my shout of "come on Jim" that encouraged him to join in the Mexican wave....

Why not liquidate CCFC Ltd on day one Torch? They had the power to do it all along. The only people to blame for Sisu paying that rent for 6 years is Sisu. I won't go into the reasons it was set again, that's a dead end.

You get a small pass when you take over a place, then it's all you. I took over a department last year, if I went around blaming decisions made by the previous head of department I'd get short shrift from the head. Sisu knew about the rent. Sisu chose to keep paying the rent. Sisu said the rent wasn't a problem. If you believe it was a problem, then you have an issue with Sisu's decisions, not ACL's.

If you asked the majority of Coventry fans they would only have good to say about Jimmy Hill.

I was there at the unveiling of his statue and can say I was proud to shake the mans hand.

It brings a bad taste to my mouth when a 'so called' city fan slags the bloke off.
Not only trawling the internet for every scrap of negative information but totally ignoring the many positive contributions he made to Coventry City and football in general.

Grendel you are an idiot.

Claptrap - the demonstrations against him at the time were far more vitriolic than we see now. Weren't you a fan at the time?

No one is denying his contribution as a manager. However, to then ignore the very obvious shortcomings as chairman lacks objectivity.

Truth is, I suspect you haven't rely a clue about the clubs history have you?

Quite right...a pitch full of fans screaming "Hill Out" in front of the directors box after a game. Either those fans were all wrong or Hill "was not good for Coventry City"

Of course, all airbrushed from history now.

We did have two women demonstrate at Northampton. So I suppose not a lot to beat there.

Can you imagine what it would be like for SISU if we demonstrated in Northampton or anywhere else like their offices if we were like we used to be in the 70's and 80's?

When I need a lecture on the clubs history I won't come to a idiotic WUM like you.
Talk about blowing up a few chants into World War III.

Have you always taken the minority view and tried to justify to unjustifiable?

Put your beloved Sisu in your school bag and fcuk off out our Coventry City fans lives.

so you approved of;

A 12,000 stadium
Sales of clubs assets to support a franchise team
trying to change its name to Coventry Talbot

The majority wanted Hill out - did you not witness the demonstrations?

Is a discussion on football matters making you squirm -- you sound clueless on this issue.

I was there all through it. It almost went unnoticed at the time.
In fact I had forgotten it until you bought it up.

I do remember getting promoted to League 1 in 1967, being part of the 50,000+ crowd against wolves and the blow when Jimmy Hill left.
