Just checked Google.com (Believe it's USA Google search) and have noticed they are not celebrating the Fifa Football world cup opening like most Google search engines are around the world including ours.

WHY????

If this is there default US google search engine then I would like to question why you even bother bidding for the tournament the if you don't think much of it and show no repect to the tournament. As usual its all about Money to them.

Before I get off my soakbox just want to say that there are many other footballing loving nations who derserve to host the world cup England included, way before USA. Oh that includes Qatar too.

please correct me if I am wrong on this.

DAL While I sympathise , I can't join your Crusade as I am totally out of love with the game .

Our own Clubs Fiasco existence and the Corruption within FIFA haveleft me as a channel hoppper tonight ,but have seen enough to kjnow that the best team lost and the bent ref ensured BraZil and Neymar will be lauded through to next week.

I feel it too bro with regards to our demise!!

It does look dodgy. Alot of iffy decisions going Brazils way and against Croatia.

Not impressed so far.

Is this a serious thread? The country doesn't care because of a website logo???

Well does it not highlight that the USA is not at all interested in Football but are happy to bid for the World Cup a second successive time as they see it is a financial bonus.

So I can imagine if the bid to host for the World cup was between England and the USA and FIFA chose USA, you would be ok with that knowing the we have more passion for the sport than they do and we are passionate a footballing nation.

Nick.. by questioning if this thread is serious and you don't think it is, then feel free to delete it.

Not really. Google aren't the USA, a country whose league is constantly expanding at an encouraging rate. Hosting the World Cup isn't exactly the money-spinner it's made out to be either with FIFA suckling at the teat.

http://www.google.com/doodles/world-cup-2014-1

Even then, their World Cup 'doodle' reached every country (including USA) bar a handful of African and Asian nations.

World Cup hosts always get gifts from the ref.....always have done. I think you'll need to look no further than Exhibit A your Honour: 1966.

I'm sure it would be for Both England and USA as there is no new Stadiums to be build unlike. Both countries have well established stadiums to host such a tournament and the only cost to them will be Security, Policing and possible upgrades to some of the Airports. Money coming in on a commercial basis and to the economy will exceed that.

Did we not financially benefit during the Euro96 tournament?

Euros are run by UEFA, who I can only assume don't give themselves the slice of the pie that FIFA do. Any World Cup bid would still need improvements on facilities and infrastructure, they keep changing the criteria to allow themselves to award them to countries who can afford it.

There are plenty of benefits of hosting, but financial isn't really the main one.

No, it highlights nothing.

Just whether a website changes their logo doesn't show a whole country are passionate about something or not.

I'm confused as google has a world cup celebration"google" here ??
I thought yesterdays game was way better than I expected with both teams going for a win.
Sure Croatia deserved more but that's why home advantage plays such a big part in world cups.
Looking forward to Spain v Holland today

Have you even bothered looking at all the countries google seach engines. They all seem to have the FIFA world cup celebration.

e.g. google.aus, google.in, google.hk, google.pl google rus ...etc my point is that virtually all countries around the world had this theme of celebration to promote the tournament yesterday and most still have it today. but google.com in US was the only one that didn't.

Considering Google is the largest search engine in the world and an advertising source you would think they would also be in the spirit of it.

I have family in the US who are into football and were not aware that it even started?? Will be going there on the 8th so I will see with my own eyes how many really have an interest. So far in my past visit I have not seen this other than interest for ladies football from there school girls.

If England ever lose to USA to host the world cup.. I guarantee you that would be the first thing our media and genera public will be pointing out. They sure did when Russia got it.

Yes, I just looked at Google.com through a US proxy and it is there. The same as turlykerd says above who lives in the US, as well as Google's page of where the Doodle has reached which AJ has posted.

Have you bothered to actually look or are you just ranting about nothing?

So you think that if the USA got the World Cup the media would go mad because Google "didn't" change it's Doodle?

I was referring to this:

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...il-launching-football-tournament-9529365.html

I was trying to point out that all virtually all Google search engines had this google doodle on there google search engine to celebrate the world cup. It was only after speaking to family in the US yesterday that they were not aware the world cup was going to kick off but when I mentioned doesn't your doodle google show this, they responded no! So I did a look around other seach engines around the world and found everyone except the US on had this doodle.

What point I was trying to make is how can a country that obviously have shown no interest in this world cup have attempted to bid to host the world cup again for when that same nation can't even acknowledge the event is happening now.

Take note that google is the largest promotional and advertising tool in the world but obviously shows there is no need for Google US to do it as there is no interest in that country.

It may sound trivial but remember, when England attempt to bid for it next time round we will be bidding against them. Would be interesting to see peoples tune change if USA get it for the second time in favour of England. As there is a good chance considering we are not in favour with FIFA.

What .. No I am not saying that.. I am pointing out that this is one example of how Americans lack interest in the sport considering Google being the worlds largest advertising tool

Is it there?? How do you see it???

How come my family can't see it... strange

I have check but can't see it.

Am I missing something here??

Google here in the U.S shows 'something' about football on the home page..

Capture.JPG

Granted it's not an 'in your face' visual but it shows something...

Also, where does your family live here to not know the World Cup has started?
It's on EVERY sports internet page there is? It's on SPORTSCENTER every day?
EVERY SINGLE game is being shown on ESPN, ESPN 2 etc....

I can only say this as a Floridian but there are going to be more Americans watching the England game tomorrow with me than English...
To say the yanks have no interest in this world cup is way off the mark.

just seen doodle reach... looks like they are getting this doodle celebration. Its is promoted very well around the world by google except some Africa nations which are probably censored... shame!

Still baffled US family are not seeing it. .. Strange?

My question has been answered and in fact they do seem to get it.

Was initially annoyed as I felt that there own biggest promotional and advertising tool was not promoting the world cup in there own country but felt they had the right to bid for it against other nations that were football mad.

They proved me wrong which I am glad about as now it would not upset as much if we lose against them in the future bid we both put in.

Thanks

All I need to find out is why they can't see it.

You can go directly to Google.com which is strait-laced and doesn't feature any of the daily doodles, it might be that.

I was speaking to them yesterday during the opening ceremony. They knew the world cup was happening some time this week but not yesterday, till I reminded them. I even pointed out that how come you didn't know.. surely you googled today and seen the FIFA celebration on there doodle. They responded no thats when I start looking for the doodle on there site and also could not see it though I could see it on most other international google sites. Then I had my rant.

Family live near Cambridge, Massachusettes.

I did not say all Yanks had no interest in World Cup .. I know that some do but not as much as many footballing countries around the world. I have been there many times and have seen that there is not as much interest as what most would think. I suppose they have other sports like basketball, baseball and American football to compete with, but then again, I have not been there during the world cup period which I will this time round. Next month I will judge for myself.

I have noticed one thing though .. in Mass there are fair few football pitches poping up which is a good start but I mainly see girls playing the game more than the guys. I can also see why there ladies USA team is good because some of there girls are bloody good players.

My rant was about something that I believed was not there but it was and I could see that we will be competing with USA when our turn comes for bidding for the world cup 2026 if we do.

Still confused about why they can't see it. Wonder if there pointing to the simple default google page??

Jesus, it really is a bad state of affairs when people are expected to learn the world's news by the doodle on google! :)

Although the USA had the world cup not long ago, so they can piss off either way! (and they call it Soccer)
