Good point, you may well be right. Still a bit of a shock. I thought a back 3 of reda, Webster and Seabourne looked fairly capable at this level.

They are one and the same thing, we nearly got relegated because we sold Clarke and Wilson got injured and we had a tiny squad that couldn't cope with that, so we had to resort to desperation loans to fill the gaps, this squad is smaller and more susceptible to the exact thing happening than last years squad.
In order to get your squad list two players in each position you had to list 2 players we haven't signed (and the season starts tomorrow), 5 nearly untried kids and 3 kids with less than a season experience. That is a very small squad and it won't take many injuries/suspensions to make it all fall apart and thats without the risk of us selling our most valuable asset whoever that may be in January.
It might all work out great but it's going to take alot of luck for the squad size not to cause us big problems at least a few times during the season.

The squad size is about right we do need 2/3 max but most squads in league 1 are about 20-25 players many of which encompass some youth players.#
and add a little to it with loans.
Perhaps Noggin can find another team with 40 players in the squad in league 1 who are all seasoned pros though!!! :facepalm:

To be honest I think our academy kicks out players good enough for this division.
With the move to 352 I actually think we're a lot better covered than last year. I believe the likes of Haynes, Phillips, Daniels and Lawton are good enough to be backups in L1.
I think the quality of the first 11 is lower, but the balance of the squad is better.

with the additional 10 points, we would have been 13 points off the play offs last season. You feel the balance of the squad is better, but first 11 quality is lower
all in all, its mid table to lower half isnt it ?
20 players + a few kids and then add to it a bit with loans is an average sized squad for this league sure.
However thats not what we have, we have 20 players with a squad number, 3 are loan players, 8 are kids (although daniels, willis and phillips have at least a little bit of experience) and at least a couple of the senior players we do have have had long and serious injury layoffs in the recent past.
If we had 20 senior players I wouldn't be worried but we dont, so no need for your inaccurate, illinformed and insulting comments.

If I had to pick a position Id say 10th, but well off the playoffs. Lower if we lose Johnson and/or Tudgay for extended periods.

As has been pointed out by other posters our academy kids are decent and more than adequate league 1 back up in my book.
Willis 7 Daniels are now experienced pros in my book with games played. Phillips has always done well whenever he has been asked to set up, haynes looked solid & people have been raving about potential of maddison?
Combined with fact that if Baker and Barton do well could work way back in a fact you have neglected to point out, and they are still at the club our squad is not far off and is certainly competitive in league 1. Ideally would like one more in centre in all three facets of the game but if we do not manage to get them have no problems with squad size overall worst case scenario.

Have you had a look at every squad in the division to determine what is the average sized squad for this league then?
It was his comment, I just agreed with that one part of it, why not ask him?

I repeated something similar (about other squads other than ours) and said sure, I haven't analysed each squad no, but im confident he is about right

Did you read my reply to your post? you said the average squad is 20-25 players which encompasses some youth and then add to it with loans. Ours is 17 without loans and 8 of those are kids. So Yes I agree 20-25 including a few kids then add loans is average, no I don't agree that our squad fits that description, we don't have a few kids, we have alot of kids and we don't have 20-25 players + loans, we have 17.
so no there was no conflict in my post at all and no I'm not saying our squad is about right in relation to our competitors, it is too small, has too many untried kids and too many people who struggle with injuries. While it might all be ok it's going to need very good luck for the squad size not to seriously negatively affect us like it did last year.

You claimed the average squad size is 20 senior players + a few young players/loans was the average sized squad for this league. Outside of the Sheffield Utd, Bristol and Prestons of this league you would find it difficult to find many teams who fit your criteria for average.
Looking at the squads of the sideways sammy preview ours is pretty much in line with the rest of the division
Our squad is 19 players now with the loss of Seaborne. I agree our squad isn't complete but the way you are talking about 17 players and 8 of them are kids you are making it out we need about another 10+ senior signing to have an average sized squad is crazy. 3 more senior signings, one defender, one midfielder and one striker would give us a squad size in line with most of the other teams in the league. And that isn't including players like G Thomas, Maddison, Urqhart haven't even got a squad number but could make an impact if they impress and Baker and Barton who could both still be here after the transfer window.

I'd be worrying if we only had a first eleven with four players over the age of 26 in and a bench full of kids...oh wait we started with that last season and everything was fine.

It's a shame if he's going and we don't have anyone to replace him, but with our budget we can't be that choosy. Would be great if we had a youth player who is a suitable replacement and learns from being in with the experienced more mature players.

There were circumstances that led to that happening:
1) Clarke sold
2) Wilson injured
3) Points Deduction
4) Elvis tinkering with a winning system
5) Good 'on the face of it' loan signings turned out to be pants (or at least not fit into our system)
6) Playing Willis at left back
We were never ever going to get relegated last season. Season just slowed up as per.
Just for one second did you not think perhaps that's a tad tongue in cheek?

Nearly got relegated means safe by April btw. If we won the league we'd nearly have missed the play offs.
