Nah, they got rid of the TV in The Old Smithy years ago, it's a trek to Brinklow even for that. Might as well just go to the game having gone that far!

Brinklow's not the furthest from the Old Smithy!

Plus that £30 saved on tickets could have had them a nice meal at the Bull's Head ;)

No screen in the Queen's Head at Bretford?

(hell, this is moreinteresting than the circular argument at least ;) )

Exactly. They're lucky that I'm even thinking about it! Judging by the comments on the CT, many aren't...

tbh, if people can be motivated to make a comment, even if a negative one, they probably are open to persuasion.

If they really weren't bothered, they'd be actually doing what they were saying they were going to do, rather than just talking about it.

So you still think that a year away should have increased our support then rather than decreased it? Why?

We're going round in circles.

Feel good factor, 4 page pull outs in the CT on fans excitement on our being home, national coverage, City fans buzzing that we were finally back at the Ricoh and an absolutely massive clamour for tickets for that first game, which again got lots of media coverage.

Of course Saturday's game should have been more than 11,000.

I think as with every other club, if we keep on winning people will come to watch. I don't know any club where success doesn't bring more fans. I was there yesterday, travelled up from the seaside and really enjoyed the game. I haven't seen the team so comfortable on the ball and in control for a long time. Entertaining at times, but also reasonably solid.

You see that's the problem - we had quality last Friday, and 16k didn't come back, we've followed up with another quality win and are now in the top 6. Surely that should've enticed some of that 16k to come again and going forward some extra fans for being in the top 6??

Is having a top 6 team attractive to customers? Moreover, a team that look capable of maintaining that over a season?

27k down to 11k is extremely disappointing, like Otis I'd hoped for 16k.

Because they are casual fans who have not been going regularly for years, if ever. People like my old man who had a ST in the 70's and goes to maybe 1-2 games a year and bargain games like Crewe and Gills. He's not going to suddenly turn into a ST holder or weekly attendee. Neither are the people who can't afford it. Price is a massive factor, as was the homecoming. Why can't people grasp that?

Well it increased our support by 16k for 1 game.

It was a one off occasion and tickets were less than half price so its pointless comparing it to your regular league match.

Maybe we should have left ticket prices for the Yeovil match as they were for the Gillingham match then?

We've been starved of seeing our club for a year. Yes, some fans are hungry to see them again, but of course when you starve something, sometimes...it dies. I'm really not that bothered about them anymore. I wouldn't have believed I'd ever feel so ambivalant about the club, but they fucked off, so that's how I feel! I'm glad that they're back, sure, and I will probably go to some games-but no way can I feel the same as I had done for the previous 40 years, the bond was broken and it will take some serious healing. They've got to win my support back again all over.

People grasp that, it's still disappointing that we didn't manage to keep 33% of extras

Yes, perhaps we should have.....how many would have come to the preston game when it went back to full price?

I think we need to stop commenting on games like Crewe and gillingham as "showing the potential" as these fans only come when it's a cheap big tie.

Doubt it in the Queen's, but there's a bit of history there tbh, one of my brothers used to work there and it ended in arguments, so it's NOPM to the Queen's! Shame, that was the first pub that I used to get served in.

Ha!

Still a half decent pub, but the food's gone downhill recently so... if he was the old chef, compliments to him!

I think that yesterday's 11000 was a realistic expectation, given the exceptional circumstances the previous week. It will probably stay at 11-12000 for Preston and Crawley. A consistent winning team and a healthy league position will see that increase slowly, particularly if we are around the top 6 and looking serious play-off candidates, something we have never managed since 2001.

I would love to see decent crowds back at the Ricoh. All I am saying is that, given the City's history of flattering to deceive, it won't happen overnight.

Agreed. It's the 32,000 that come for Chelsea and the 27,000(?) that come for Leeds when it's full price that actually show our true potential.

Well, that's exactly how I felt. Didn't listen on the radio, didn't go to games and at times didn't even know we were playing.

The minute I knew we were coming back though I got my desire back in an instance and immediately went out and bought a season ticket.

The bond was broken for me too. All it needed though was a little bit of glue and it was back, fixed to how it was before again.

The Chelsea match was subsidised apparantly and it shows no potential at all.

Anyway I genuinely think the disorganisation of the ticket office, not a dig at them was to be expected to some degree, probably put off quite a few of those who were considering coming back after the Gillingham game. People aren't going to spend an hour queuing for a regular fixture.

Assuming now that things are running a lot more smoothly for Preston it could give us a better indication of what attendances to expect for the rest of the season.

Chelsea was subsidised, and pretty sure leeds brought 6k with them that year so there was only 21-22k city fans...

Those 6,000 travelling fans were rewarded early on when Jonathan Howson headed Leeds into a fourth-minute lead after a clever dink across the six-yard box by Robert Snodgrass.

Funny that most fans would rather pay £20.00 to watch Chelsea, then £22.00 to watch Yeovil?

Who would have thought that??
It was £20 a ticket so think it was a couple of quid cheaper. Unless league tickets were £20 at that time of course.

I would have though they were paying £20 or £22 to watch Coventry city football club?

I bet price won't be an issue feb-march time when people want ticket Stubbs for a play off ticket..,

So it sounds like it was a couple of quid cheaper than a league game for Chelsea-hardly the £10 of Crewe and Gillingham, is it? And "only" 22,000 for Leeds-when all we had was a sniff of a playoff position? I think that both games perfectly highlight the potential of the club, which is to attract as many as the likes of Stoke and Swansea do if we were to be a Premier League club again.

Why would any Coventry fan not want to highlight that potential? Why would you refuse to acknowledge that it exists? Do you not like us or something?!?

Yes, there were always as many there for Wimbledon as there was for Liverpool and Man U in the top flight days, wasn't there?

It is the truth. Why can't you see it?

Many reasons are not being answered to, but just the same comment of excuses is used. There is no single reason.

But as has been said several times how can anyone expect thousands more supporters to suddenly appear from the amount we were getting before we were taken out of Coventry. The only answer given is because we sold 27,000 cheap tickets. And out of that 11,000 that stayed about the same there will have been a lot not there because they won't go to another game whilst SISU are still with us.

But yes they are just looking for a reason not to go I suppose. But at least they have been replaced by others.
