Match of the Day

2 hrs ·

Back in the 80's, knocking Coventry City FC out of The FA Cup was classed as a giant-killing....

They just took the piss out of our fall from grace.

Time to get angry

Knocking out a club near the bottom of division 3 isn't a giant killing. But we were the 4th longest serving club in the top flight.

Been angry, frustrated, pissed off, dejected and now resigned to our fate. It is the truth.

Have you never taken the piss out of other clubs in their bad times? Just another reality check.

It's the BBC.. not quite sure what you'd expect.

Perhaps showing some respect towards the fans?

Just to quote a few comments from their status:

Harsh on Coventry. Not like the BBC to be pedantic. To be honest everyone is a small club to the BBC bar the 'big 5'.

According to my sources, "it is one of the most famous 'giant-killings' in the competition's history", and is, "notable for being one of those rare occasions when a club from the highest tier of English football was defeated by a non-League side. It remained the last occurrence of this for 24 years, until Luton Town beat Norwich City in the Fourth Round in 2013." Coventry had also won the FA Cup two seasons previously, so yes a giant-killing, regardless of how far Coventry have fallen in the years until now.

Not really BBCs kindest remark ... Respect to Coventry still a big club ..deserve so much better... Hope to see you back where you belong BWFC

Shameful BBC. Coventry are a good club with real fans unlike most in the prem league ...

Can't see what the problem is.

We now have a whole new generation probably watching MOTD. To many Coventry City have been a lower league club for most of their existence. A non-league team beating a League 1 team simply doesn't hold the same notoriety as beating a Premier League club (or whatever it was back then).

People now see us a lowly League 1 club.

We're talking nearly 30 years ago. Can't see what the problem is.

To be actually offended by a mildly wry comment on a Facebook page, you'd need skin so thin you're almost transparent. Jesus.

Maybe (I can't believe I'm going to say this) people are more sensible and less prone to massive overreactions here.

If you ever want to see someone fly off the handle about something, load up a social media site and wait five seconds.

Or the fact people on facebook need to have a word with themselves

We're not a big club.... and that's not about whether or not we are in Prem, Champ or League 1. It' not about if we have potential, a 'sleeping giant' or whatever.

As far as BBC and Sky are concerned - there are only 4/5 big clubs in this country... everyone else is just filler.

You only have to look at the FL shows on both to see how much they don't care about life outside the Premiership. Even if you look at the distribution of PL games shown on BT Sport and Sky to see how big clubs are favoured.

It is a reality check. There is a core problem at the heart of many of our fans { including me } and that is those 34 unbroken years at the top level ! Everything since 2001 has been a huge comedown, a gradual slide into obscurity and near oblivion. In 13 years now we've had the ........The closure of HR, the Opening of the Ricoh, A handful of decent home games and the trips to Arsenal and Spurs, the big followings at MK and a few other places, the Chelsea game and the win at Man Utd in the league Cup. I feel for the younger { Under 30 } fans who haven't had a lot to cheer in that period and fair play for them sticking with the City.
The last 3 years have been the worst though....gut wrenching, embarrassing, divisive, demoralising and downright depressing !

We have never been a big club though , a big club is man utd , bayern munich , juventus , liverpool etc etc .
coventry fall well into the medium sized category along with many other clubs that assume they are "big" when on the grand scale they are simply not

No one has a divine right to be at the top table... it's has to be earned.

Unfortunately for us... we fell out of the PL at the worst possible time. The deck is stacked against us and many others like us that were PL founding members and are now floating between 2nd and 3rd tier.

Really can't see what the problem is here? It was an embarrassing result, but hey, that's football. We had our glory in 1987.

Yes, for a team like Worcester, it will be. Giant killings are judged on the differance of leagues and positions of the clubs involved. Therefore, yes, it will be a giant killing for them. Not cus we're a big club, but cus they're a tiny club and we're in a remotely respectable league

to be fair some would still see it as a giant killing given the fact they have won the F.A cup and spent a good 30 years + (not sure on the exact figure) consecutive season's in the top flight, it's such a shame to see any club go through such hard times and most of them through bad management/owners so good luck to Coventry in the cup and league from a Stoke fan
