I'm sure they look at our squad and think Haynes who? Willis who? Hines who? Thomas who? Phillips who? Barton who? Swanson who? Martin who? Burge who? Allsop who? Mcqoid who? Fleck who? Maddison who? Miller who? Oh yeah I've heard of tudguy he's a good player because I've heard of him.

To be honest I've always thought this was a particular issue of our fans, even back in the championship over egging our squad because we know the players and not rating a lot of other teams squad because we've never heard of them. League one and a lot of championship footballers are not household names, we're bound not to have heard of most in this league.

Spot on Stupot tbh (The second part that is) However it's not over egging the squad that's the problem, it's the opposite. Add to this that 90% of our fans haven't a clue about the quality of the other teams in this division and there is always going to be warped views on how we should be doing. If I can be bothered I'm going to start a thread on the quality of our squad compared to those who 'should' be fighting with us for a play off spot. Have to catch a train first (First Class carriage as that's how I roll) so might be to fucked when I return to our glorious City.

And why shouldn't I?
Don't run away just because some one can't make a constructive comment.

Fuck me been called worse before.

Just a shame that we have all been dragged down to this level due to the horrendous circumstances we find our club in.

We all have our opinions mostly we are all right in some degree just can't agree on the percentage of blame of the main players.

I is a shame as we are all City fans at the end of the day.

Jesus dude , it was just a little play on words, not meant to cause offfence !

I apologize if any was taken :)

I defiantly didn't expect an essay about the state of society at the minute and reasons why your a twat

This may just win my apology of the week award ( a small cash prize, or a meal for 2 in any Hillfields eaterie establishment (chicken(?) and chips in a box for £1 at the corner shop - other establishments are available!!)

Remind me how much we paid for Clarke, Wilson and Mcgoldrick, and how much we paid for Eastwood and McDonald. Paying a fee doesn't guarantee performances and goals.

Clarke has had many clubs. We were just one of those. His manager wanted him out of the club after a big bust up. McG came on loan as his club had lots of decent strikers, And then we have Wilson. He came through the ranks at our club. I have been watching our club since the early 80's. And in all of that time how many strikers as good as him have we seen come through? And why didn't you add King to your list?

Or shall we look at all of the best players we have had over the years? We paid money for just about all of them. Or would you like a list of all of the players we have picked up on a free that have been crap?

So we paid money for these players.
Speedie, Keene, McCalister, Strachen, Huckerby, Wise, Dublin, Yorath, Gibson, Regis, Yorath, Wallace, Ferguson, Stein, Hartson, Haji, Chippo, Nudlov, Carsley and even the Mighty Tommy Hutchinson.

Some that didn't make it Moldavan, Eastwood, Brazil, Bellamy(because he's a nob),

As for the players we have had on Loan or free I can't even remember 10 of them why is that?
Oh yes because they were Forgettable.

I'm sure the posters that can remember names and have a better memory then me could add to all off these lists, but you normally get what you pay for there are always exceptions.

For a start the Bosman ruling only came into effect in1995, so a fair amount of those players were signed before that.

And we're now a league one club, the majority of signings in this league are freebies and loans. There aren't many fees paid in this league. So comparing now with PL days is just plain daft.

Oh and wise was a free agent...

Add to that, the fact that because we shelled out fortunes on these players is partly to blame for our situation now. Spending beyond our means.

OK.

How many good free signings have we made in the last 19 years?

And how many have been crap?

TBF wasn't sure about Wise so OK you can add him to the other list.

You can only compare players that have played for our club so you have to take the prem in any comparison as over the last 50 years most of that time we were in the top league.
As for not paying for players in this league if you have all freebies you will stay were you are you still need a few better players to get out of this league.
There is always the exception but unfortunately that has never been our luck.

You can list all the names you like. I never said all players bought turn out crap. I just said a fee is not a guarantee of a good player.

Doncaster won automatically promotion with just one transfer fee - Billy Paynter, yeovils bought madden for £15k and got promoted. It can be done. This will become even more the norm as FFP gets further in bedded in this league. Swindon got put in an embargo because the transfer fees set by the tribunal for Collins and a.n.other pushed them over the FFP limit.

There will always be exceptions but that is exactly what they are exceptions.

As for embargo's we are good at working within them.

PNE are probably the strongest side I've seen us play have paid only 1 fee in the last 2 years, and that's because the player (like christie) was 22 and therefore had to pay compensation for him, and they're sat in second place.

It's the way this league and league two are going. Teams are now relying more heavily on free transfers and loans.

So out off all the teams promoted in the last 3 seasons from the championship to L2 how many have not invested a penny in players?

Like I said you will get exceptions, unfortunately we will not be one of them never had any luck that way.

When Wolves got promoted they even brought players/strikers they didn't need?

Wolves are an exception though aren't they? How many league one sides are receiving parachute payments? And also the FFP are only really becoming imbedded. And by that I mean in terms of culture change.

All the promoted sides included at least one transfer fee (Yeovil - Madden £15k, doncaster Billy Paynter, etc) and in the age of undisclosed it's very hard to pinpoint exactly how much has been spent and the net flow of transfer fees.

It's all about how teams are put together, coached and managed always has been, jury still out imo on Steve Pressley. Has signed a lot of players who have not cut the mustard but there is something about him I like. He has to change this high pressure tactic and be more 442 tighten up our leaky defence and get a bit of pace in the midfield and I am certain we will win games.

It's different levels though, at the top level if your spending 10s of millions you are usually paying for proven quality or massive potential and would expect them to perform.

At the level of fee's we could reasonably pay it makes little difference on the players quality. Look at Higdon who everyone was begging for us to sign for a fee, gone to Sheffield Utd. 31 years old, keeps picking up injuries and only scored 2 goals.

OK can't be bothered to argue I will concede, we have a side that is good enough for Promotion.!!

Well I hope so:)

Yea but we didn't pay 300k or whatever for Tudgay, we also got him on a 12 month deal whereas Higdon would have probably wanted minimum 2.

300k over 2 years is £150k a year, or 3k a week. I would suggest Tudgay could easily be on 3k+ a week more than Higdon

I'm not sure what his angle is, is he seriously trying to suggest we still should have signed Higdon

A player who is past his best, who can't stay fit and tied down to a 2 year deal who cost a decent transfer fee for this level and on about 6k a week.

Ok Tudgay has been terrible but at least he was a a lower risk signing than Higdon.
