Much needed win today after the Sunday debacle. Somewhat eases the pain. Only 2 more rounds till Wembley is it ? A repeat of Crewe at the Ricoh from two seasons ago would be nice (A full house, not the 3-0 loss...). Hopefully get some sort of momentum going now and get a good result at the weekend too.

Work rate was top notch, much more urgency, running to keep the ball in play when they could leave it for a throw, taking free kicks and quick throws and generally looking like they wanted. Commitment was good, some players still a bit tentative in going in for the 50:50s. We need to make sure that effort an work rate becomes the norm and not a one off reaction to Sunday, Pressley was right to drop Nouble imo. He is guilty of not working hard enough at time and we don't want that spreading into other areas of the team, clearly got ability and if we can get his fitness and work rate to high levels we could have one of the best strikers in the league on our hands.

Overall, big improvement but still a long way to recovery from Sundays performance. Need to make sure the effort never dips again and that this isn't a one off response.

Yes the goals have already been on sky sports. He pretended to have a bad back. Not sure why?

Possibly something personal between him and Pressley, which I'm sure SP will see as harmless banter..

Phillips was great tonight, strong tackler. Brings energy and enthusiasm to the team. Willing to put his body and head on the line where it can get kicked to stop a goal, great attitude. Need more like him who are prepared to throw themselves in where the boots are flying around.

Always been impressed by Phillips whenever I've seen him, a natural right back who is confident on the ball as opposed to Willis.

He done ok, he's another one who I think is willing to take one for the team. Can go toe to toe physically with the centre backs in this league and not afraid to stick his head in where the elbows are flying around.

better all round performance today, firs thalf we lacked intent which SP must sort out.

secnd half we attacked and played some great stuff in middle and final third at times.

madine different player second half and willis did well after shakey first 10 mins

i was v impressed with young phillips, haynes and finch

barton once again plays with instinct and vision, very good performance.

fleck, webster and obrien led like veterens and what a difference nouble makes.

another home tie next please, ricoh is so much better for JPT games! keep us in 1 stand all the time until we grow attendences!

This post pleases me. Hopefully we can all sleep a little better tonight.

As I said in post about Nouble I think people were over-hyping him - personally thought he was crap at orient workrate in particular.
If he puts effort in can be a beast but needs to do it far more consistently......hopefully he kicks on from here!

I will be at Notts County game so looking for a good league performance from Nouble he owes us one!

Improved performance tonight, Alsop was rarely troubled an equal to what Plymouth offered Philips played very well at right back. Willis seemed more confident an better at centre back too. Webster was reliable to tidy up, Haynes had a reasonable game, job, fleck an finch did a good job in midfield but I think we seen Adam bartons best ever game for the city, some nice passes an turns. A few stray ones but won at least 5 50/50 balls!! Maddison again did well an was unlucky to get carded but Gary madine was very good winning a lot of headers an holding the ball up well. If we can just get someone playing closer to him that will be a huge threat in L1, need to sign him up or extend his loan. Nouble showed again he is a class player at this level when he's interested! Now for notts county an a continuation of positive play!!

I can't believe all the negative press that Nouble is getting, he changed the game when he came on!

He was playing Plymouth....he should be above their level tbf! Besides I don't think anyone is denying that when on his game he is awesome and far better than league 1.....it is his consistency in attitude and workrate that could be his downfall.....i hope not he is a talent if he puts it in!

You are not wrong about getting players closer to Madine the two in the middle of midfield sit way too deep.

Given how poor we were against Worcester and the Pressley rant we were dire again tonight for 65 minutes. The Nouble substitution was crucial. Completely changed a game that was otherwise certainly heading to penalties. Good result though but shouldn't let it detract from the fact that there is a huge amount of improvement required still!

I thought the team played well tonight after Sunday, Barton always looks for the forward ball but sometimes team mates don't push forward, and has to go sideways, also in the second half he went in for a 50/50 and crunched the opposition and won the ball. Maddison worked hard but needs to stop throwing himself to the floor so often, Madine is good at winning balls and holding up which should work with Nouble or Jackson running on. Haynes crosses were poor tonight as were O'Brien's, but great corner for the goal. A Good performance from Alsop who seemed a bit more vocal tonight, making a great save from a header at crucial stage of the game. Good support from the fans for Pressley during the match.

SG "we have always said we are looking at fans experience wherever we play. No news on land deal, so remit is on Ricoh"

Is this true? Had a quick look back at the articles on the official site from when the ground was formed and there's no mention of anything but the group working on the new ground. Has she realised it's all bollocks and is trying to save face.

SG "we are looking at input from fans, 2+2 years at least here we hope"

The language everyone on the SISU side of things are starting to use about the new stadium isn't too promising in terms of anything actually happening. Everything seems to be indicating a lot more than the 2+2 being needed.

From the sounds of things I'm not sure its the performance SP would have wanted. I expected them to come out all guns blazing and, for the first half at least, it didn't seem a huge improvement over the weekend.

But the result is the main thing, into the next round and hopefully we'll see further improvement at the weekend. Be very interesting to see who doesn't make the squad for the next game, should give a good indication of who's in the bad books.

I think she must have got a text mid interview from Timmy, as she went on to say the land announcement was imminent

I agree, yet I said Madison should come off as he isn't being affective and I was being harsh. Yet he came off and look what happened...

I thought it was the perfect performance tonight, yes in the first half we didn't trouble Argyle enough in attack, but they were restricted to nothing. We passed the ball around and looked like we could create.

Second half was much better, we looked as if we were in total control and I thought there was only going to be one team who won the game in the end, bringing Nouble on was instrumental, Frank won us the corner which our first goal came from and did really well for the second goal, people said he plays lazy, I disagree, when he has the ball at his feet and is taking defenders on he looks a constant threat and does link well with the midfield, but Nouble is not the type of striker who will run the channels.. We all need to accept that.

Plymouth had one chance after we were already 1-0 up, I genuinely think we played really well tonight and we got the right result. Some will pick bones at the first half, but we were patient and we didn't keep going for the jugular constantly, we were persistent in our player and thoroughly got we deserved.

I rate Maddison a lot, he worked hard tonight and played well, but he isn't a striker.

Nouble and Madine look as if they could be a good pair, Nouble played brilliantly after coming on.

Madison looks active, always seems to want the ball, but then almost gets frightened when he has it. As Nick and I said mid match, he always seems to want to go down rather than have a crack at goal. That is why he's not a striker (and today he wasn't playing a strikers position as Madine was isolated up top on his own).

Nouble + Madine do look an interesting partnership

I'm not sure it's poor work effort from Nouble or just poor fitness, maybe a mix of both but his work rate does seem to drop off pretty early in matches. Maybe it would be better to use him as an impact sub at the moment and then we can get them explosive 30 minute bursts from him where he can win a game.
