The back page of the Telegraph has traditionally been the place where all us Sky Blues fans first look for the latest news snippets of the club. Today's (Friday 12th Dec) back page has a quarter page advert for the "other" team that "are coming". I didn't want to mention the W word because I don't want this thread to be moved to the sub forum as I think it's more relevant here and clearly demonstrates the way we have been what appears to be, moved a little bit more than sideways. Shame on the Telegraph for giving them this press space. Is nothing sacred.

shocking....they r slowly taking over, all over the radio and both channels...bbbcwr and freeradio! their prize....a family day out at first game and £100 to spend on merchandise...you havin a laff disgraceful! never heard cov rugby even got a mention only ever the result! very very sad times indeed #pusb #ctid

I just glance over it now as it is all a bit depressing.

I worked at the Telegraph for over 30 years and I wouldn't have started the press up with that on the back page. The Telegraphs been printed at the Forte in Birmingham for over ten years now and they don't have the same conscience and no patriotism.

I really dont see the problem. We are now a piss poor 3rd division club struggling to stay in this league, we dont own the stadium we play in and are in danger of going out of existence. The once proud club that us as supporters deserve has all but fallen away to a shambles bereft of any investment on or off the field.
Its sad but its hardly news worthy to the majority of Coventry folk what happens to us or who we are playing every week. (Just look at the falling attendances).
I just pray our fortunes change for the better and we can get back to the days where the first thing you did in the morning was look at the sports pages!:p

Yeah, why should people in a city care more about a team that's based there rather than one parachuted in by a council desperate to cut its losses.

Not defending the Telegraph but they're a commercial entity trying to sell papers to the widest possible audience / trying to attract visitors to their website. Wasps is something new which might attract those who otherwise don't bother with the a Telegraph (because they have up on news and current affairs years ago).

perhaps because of several things. We have heard nothing from SISU lately. CCFC are intent on leaving the city. CCFC are dismal at the moment and the steady decline doesn't inspire people. The "other place" are breaking Rugby attendance records, communicating with people, making special offers and giving out free tickets to Coventry schools, holding an open day and just generally going about things the right way. I think people would care more about a team based in the city, if the management of the company owning the team would show some care for the city whose name they carry on their teams shirts.

Oh wait. No I aint. Seeing as its the biggest sports story in Coventry sinse the sky blues return. I dont like it, but thems the facts.

As much as it grieves me people are going along for curiosity and getting involved. Good PR and good marketing and something new. I even know of a few Leicester Tigers supporters coming over for a nose as it's actually quite cheap for them { Tigers charge between £32 and £45 and it's the same I believe for kids }.
Personally I think it stinks and will continue to only follow the Coventry teams but it's hard to fault the Telegraph for printing what is actually 'news' to many people. If Coventry and Warks folk wanted strong local sides then they should have got off their collective arses and supported them, way too many preferred the armchair !

If it's an advert then I would imagine a higher rate is charged for better positioning so they've given them what they have paid for. It's not like they've refused a CCFC ad to put a Wasps one there instead.

What coverage they get in the CT and on CWR will be interesting. The ad on CWR only mentioned commentary on DAB, does that mean it's not on the non-digital feed which I would think has the majority of listeners. At the end of the day if the readers / listeners make it known they aren't interested then the coverage will reflect that.

a fairly typical response from supporters.
time has come to stop bashing and blaming all these other groups and just focus on the football club.
i don't care what Wasps do.
i don't blame the Telegraph for focusing on a positive sports story.
people need to focus on the football club and try and find ways of moving it forward and not waste time worrying about Wasps do. maybe there are things we can learn from the Wasps approach to improve things for the football club.

Most of the people of Coventry are not outraged by Wasps coming to the City. They have not been on radio ranting about it. Writing letters to their MP's and the CET. It just doesn't bother them.

Some (not all) Coventry fans are bothered because it affects CCFC in a negative way.

Do the CET turn down business and carry out some North Korean censorship on reporting anything to do with wasps. When there maybe just as many people out there who want to know to read the advert than there are people who don't want to know about it?

Like or loath it Wasps are now a local sports team playing in the city, the Coventry Telegraph is the local paper which reprts on local issues and a Wasps home game is local news, I suggest anyone who dislikes that don't buy the paper of if you do don't read the article, I'm not a cricket lover so rarely read articles on Warwickshire cricket, who incidently are based in Birmingham

The telegraph for commercial reasons will go with the popular vote. Also as it is Wasps debut as home team it is a unique event & is bound to get more attention.

If CCFC was in the championship it would dominate the press coverage regardless, what happens for the rest of this season will largely depend on the crowds & performances of the respective teams.

That's just the way it is!

I don't buy the Telegraph (not just because I live miles away, but I never bothered when I was in Cov) so it doesn't really bother me what they print. At least you get a daily local paper in Cov. We just get a once-weekly local here. By the time it goes to print and is sold on Fridays, the news is usually a week out of date! .......... so I don't buy that rag either! :D

The Telegraph is printed on the evening of the day before it is dated so it's a similar scenario.

Of courses I understand that adverts like the one on today's back page make a considerable contribution to the companies coffers and that that the Telegraph want to cater for all tastes and sports. Of course if we were high up in the Championship or back in the Prem and owned at least half of the stadium it would seem insignificant but we're not are we, we are at the other end of the scale. I just think that in our present position of adversity with the ground that was originally planned and built for us now in the hands of a completely different sporting club it really is rubbing our noses in it.
