Too much pressure at home.... (2 Viewers)

Our home form is shocking, and v Swindon you could feel the pressure in the stadium. It was almost unpleasant to be there and feel the expectation on the players. So when there is so much expectation and pressure to come up with a result, how can we possibly expect our players to perform. No wonder we play better away from home...also knowing that those fans who travel are the core of Coventry City supporters who want to see the club come through this crisis and out the other end. We all want to see sisu gone and the sooner the better...and I'm sure the players feel the same...but for now we are stuck with them, and all we can do if we want to truly 'support' our team, is get behind them at home, regardless, and try and understand the pressure they must all feel. And I'm not talking support in numbers, it'll take a long time to get the numbers back...I'm talking support from those who do go. 7,000 fans all getting behind the team! I never attended a single game at Northampton, but now we're back at the Ricoh and playing in Coventry, I travel up from London for pretty much every game, hoping to sense a turn around in fan support as much as see us win a game. On Monday there was a guy sitting behind me who spent the entire game effing and blinding at the team. It was incredibly depressing to listen to, and I have to wonder why he bothered to turn up. My lasting impression as I walked away from the ground, was that we, as supporters, had not done anything to help our plight, and we are not helping the situation. The players must want to feel we're on their side, and as things are, I just don't see how they can. There won't be that pressure today at Gillingham, so a good result for us is much more likely!

Pressure? Bottom of league 1, playing in front of less than 8000 fans. I think they are just not good enough. Most home games I've seen this season the noisy fans by the scoreboard have been brilliant and it's made no difference to those on the pitch.

Thanks for making my point...you sound like just the kind of supporter I'm talking about. What you say can't be denied....but we have to rise above all that and let the team feel we're doing our part and haven't just turned up to pressurize them!

Its really quite simple if the owners, players and management of CCFC carry on with performances like monday there will be a crowd of around 1k.

I have included the whole setup as its a joint responsibility.

A crowd reacts to what it can see. If its negative on the pitch it will be a negative reaction.

A bad pass will create a groan.
A goal will result in a cheer.

Its not rocket science.
If you want less negativity it starts with CCFC.

I've heard some excuses in my time but this one is up there with the best . It's not pressure or else they might look like they give a shit. It is because the team is shit , the manager is shit , the owners are shit and not forgetting ACL/CCC who are also shit. In fact everyyhings shit.

So why do you bother to even turn up! Sounds like you're wasting your time. And in case you've misread, there are no excuses...I'm asking...what are we doing to help?!!

I still play football and I want to win every game.
It's a grass pitch, the other side have less supporters, they are men, it's a football game and they should be competitive regardless of whether it's the Ricoh or the Memorial park.

I'm afraid the players we have are just not good enough.
I feel sorry for them in respect of Sisu have put them in above their ability.
Pressley needs to speak out about this or he is firmly in the Sisu camp.

Get behind a team that doesn't provide a brand of football that actually excites fans, pull the other one mate. And the ricoh does have a large amount of empty seats you could of sat in, if you didn't like what you were hearing move!

Or get behind the team you support?

I don't anymore because it is depressing . The support for the team ain't bad tbf . I've heard worse . To make it better get rid of pressley ,instant boost as the negativity comes from him which creates the pressure

I don't anymore. Worcester game did it for me. I would love to go up the city with a buzzing atmosphere around the place however those days have long gone. Embarrassed is how i feel when watching us these days.

Shame you've become an armchair critic...but I hear what you're saying. It's never going to buzz again till the crowds return....and let's not go there!

Until a good cup draw

Ever then I'd rather go to the pub for a few ales and sort out my bets and fantasy team. Watching us get slaughtered by a 'big' team is not something I'd be looking forward to. At all.

We're not enduring poor form because of pressure, it's because we're playing poorly. It's not like the Ricoh is a cauldron of emotion that can intimidate sides, there are about 7 fans for every player on the pitch.

What a load of tosh. We are no different to every other club both professional and non league in terms of expectations of home performances and results. We all expect our teams to play better and pick up more points at home, which is reflected in the fact that teams generally do better at home.

The reason we are so shite at home is our squad and tactics aren't good enough to break teams down, we have no pace, we have no real goalscoring midfielder, we have no width, we have no trickery of guile in the final third., not to mention we've been playing 1 up front for the last few games. We are doing better away from home as we can play on the counter the onus isn't on us to attack and dictate play. Add to that we've been playing poorly bar a 2-3 good 45 mins all season.

Ok...so let me put it another way...given all the facts, owners/players/manager...bla bla bla, the question is, what are WE doing to help?!!!

I didn't know that 15 years of watching the city week in week out would make me an armchair fan, but thanks for that.

Sisu have put them in above their ability? So you think these players are conference and league 2 standard? Yeh right!

"WE" have done all that we can. We have protested, we marched, we showed our disapproval at the Shitfields move with our non attendance. We purchased our season tickets again as soon as the Ricoh return was announced but we have had nothing but disappointment. The crowds would return in their thousands, they are all poised waiting for that spec of light in the darkness - that's for sure - but the change has to come from within.

This is a real 'chicken or the egg' thing isn't it? There can be little doubt that football players in general respond to the support of the fans whether it's positive or negative. It's also true that the fans respond to what they see on the pitch and will voice their opinion in response to what they see. I know that I do!

So who or what starts the process? Take the Peterborough game as an example. After a terrible first half the stadium was very quiet and despondent at half-time but still gave the team a warm welcome when they came out and as the half progressed with much better football so the support got louder and louder. With one feeding the other the end result was everyone (except for the Posh fans) went home happy, looking forward to the next game.

So what happened at half-time to change the performance of the team so dramatically? Only the players and the staff know that but whatever it was it seems to have vanished, it certainly didn't appear again for the Swindon game.

However, what I think it does show is that the initial momentum needs to come from the team as a whole, players and team management, there needs to be a definite, tangible bond there that can produce the response we saw for the Posh game.

Produce that level of effort regularly and the fans will respond, produce the lacks-a-daisycal performance we saw against Swindon and there is nothing for the fans to respond too.

Wasn't it said that Nouble and Johnson took charge at half time? How true I don't know but I am sure I read that.
