How difficult is to understand the unique occasions of Gillingham and Crewe. Not sure where thinking our standard crowd is 27k comes from

The bottom line is that our supporters aren't prepared to pay £22. Reduce the price and maybe a few would flock back but having said that our prices seem to be competitive for this league, even Nuneaton charge £12 with no concessions apart from under 12s.
Seems to me that the people of Coventry and Warwickshire aren't too concerned about having a football league club on their doorstep. As for me, a season ticket holder, I find the cost to watch my team decent value and will continue to support them whatever the circumstances.

Gillingham was an 'event' game as was Wasps first match there. Both clubs then suffered significant drops in attendance. The City match was an outpouring of optimism but soon to be pissed on by Fishers comments about moving on again, I still think that it would have dropped to around 15,000 even if he had kept his gob shut though. Oh and ticket sales/arrangements for the Yeovil match were once again a shambles, we queued for 25 mins to get in !

Your right about the shambles at the Yeovil game. I missed the first goal due to the massive queues outside.

They couldnt cope with 11k, so its just as well 20k didnt turn up.

We did win that game, the crowd dipped to just over 11,000 the week after...

Ticketing arrangements were crap for the first few games. I did make the suggestion that players after training could go to the club shop and shove tickets and season tickets in envelopes to get rid of the back log. They would have had the opportunity to enclose a handwritten note sayings thanks for the support guys and gals.

i did say at the time it shouldn't even need suggesting, the players should have stepped forward and just done it. If they want a crowd...it is simple....start performing an earn a wage rather than just do enough to fly under the radar of criticism. In recent years we have had plenty of players who can say all the right things on a Thursday but can't deliver on a Saturday.

Football fans in general are fickle and the vast majority just love a good moan but Coventry City supporters appear to be much more negative than most.

The obsession regarding our owners takes the whole point and focus away from what we should all be doing, supporting the manager and the team, unfortunately another one 'bites the dust' and the timing is diabolical.

When has changing the manager actually had a positive and lasting benefit to the Sky Blues even in the short term (can think of only one over the last 20yrs, Mark Robins and he jumped ship).

We are now looking for our 12th manager since Gordon Strachen was dismissed in 2001, not a record to be particularly proud of and my guess is that in a couple of years time exactly the same thing will happen.

I'd have stuck with 'Elvis' for the long-term, we'll have great difficulty in finding a more passionate and totally hard working and committed manager, would like to wish him all the best and good luck in the future.

Unfortunately though, if it's not the manager's fault, it boils down to owners.

Look, I actually admire anyone like you who watches the rubbish week-in week-out regardless, and it's certainly true that we'd be a damned site better off if there were another 26.999 like you but... at the end of the day football's supposed to be vaguely fun. I know we're CCFC fans so the fun ain't that often(!) but every season's had half a dozen games that have made it worthwhile... usually.

Now, the time it was fun to watch the team was when we were in the wrong sodding place!

And like I say, not going to knock you for going. Me, personally however, the horror around ownership coupled with dire football doesn't give me the incentive to race there... and I'm not alone in that. The drop-off after Gillingham was thoroughly depressing and shocking (win a game, be one of those times when it's actually good to be a City fan... then 16k decide not to turn up the next week - crazy!) but, as it's gone on, there's not exactly been good news to encourage us.

Out of interest, and a genuine question really, what do you get out of going at the moment? Honestly not trying to criticise, just trying to understand. Is it just loyalty that keeps you going? Or seeing friends? Hope? Something completely different?

I repeat once again..........why do people reply to RFC ?? He's not for real, he's a WUM, nothing more and he's having you for a bunch of mugs every time !!

He has made a couple of fair points this time though. Changing the manager hasn't exactly seen a land of milk and honey for the past decade, has it.

Price of course is an issue, but in todays more enlightened times, value for money is key. There are a lot more choices available here now, and to want people to turn out in force after watching some performances is laughable. It took an age for the big 4 supermarkets to realise that footfall was sliding away and had to react. A lot of people who were loyal to a brand have found better value elsewhere. AND as for customer service...well.

For me, you can't one the one hand say footballs a business and make that abundantly clear by going against fans wishes with the move to Sixfields, and then on the other say that business's customers have some moral obligation to buy the product.

Either were a club, and all in it together, or were a business and the owners have to take responsibility for sales like any other business.

We all know which we'd like to be and SISU occasionally make the right noises about being part of the community. But no community splits, sued and slanders its members, no community leaves its home against its members wishes.

It was Sisu who set the cub apart from its community, it's Sisu who are responsible for its circumstance until that's resolved.

The thing is the reason that the majority supported Sisu when they came in was "because we'd be run as a business, by hard-nosed businessmen who wouldn't take any shit off anybody".

It's what we got, just a particularly shit bunch of businessmen, who replaced another shit bunch of businessmen.

Unfortunately it is both a club and a business, you can't separate that fact.....

Yet you will still defend the owners, you're unbelievable mate. What's happened about the stadium plans? Admit it, you only came out with all that due to blind faith, and now your eyes are opening?

Welcome to our woes, nice to see you're on board finally.

Agreed and the general standard of football in this league is poor. I pay about £15 per game with my season ticket and consider that value for money. Compare that with the other sides and their abysmal grounds and facilities who charge their fans even more.
I dread to think what our crowds would be if we ever did reach the promised land and the costs went up to forty to fifty quid a game.

I suppose it comes down to what you consider value for money.

I don't consider pointless court battles value for money, I don't consider board members who constantly feed bullshit to the fans as value for money, I don't consider the prospect of the club being homeless in 4 years time through its own actions as been value for money.

The question I'm asking is, now there's been a 'change', will people be throwing their support behind the team and giving them, the innocent party, a chance?!
There has been a change, but only the manager. We need a change of owners or at least rid of Fisher and then some engagement from the club. They need to show the same ambition as the fans, I don't mean spending cash we haven't got, but planning for the future, openly and honestly. Stop the the 'new ground crap, if it's happening put up. We knew about the Ricoh and how we nearly lost it, etc. This lot operate in a veil of secrecy reserved for blue chip takeovers. I will not be going until I feel like it. I went for the last few years as a sense of duty, didn't enjoy it, and the way SISU treated me, they need to change before I give them any of my hard earned, I've found better things to do with it.

All I said was fifteen quid a game is value for money for this standard of football and the ground facilities provided.

As to the ownership of the club, SISU have no right to be involved in the game and are therefore unlikely to have the interests of the fans at heart. The same could have been said of the Richardson era.

I know what your saying and take your point.

All I am trying to say is many people find it difficult to now separate what happens on the pitch and off it.

Yes I know where you're coming from but at the moment I try to detach myself from the two. As to the future I do fear for the club as SISU have got themselves into a cul de sac and don't know which way to turn. At one stage I fully expected them to liquidate the club and wouldn't put it past them to do so in the not too distant future. We need a few more owners in the game like Dave Whelan, Steve Gibson and a few others in the game who care about the supporters and not hedge funds, arabs, yanks, etc who are slowly destroying the game is we once knew it. The Germans have the right idea with their policy of fan ownership, it's a real shame for the good of the game that we don't
follow their example and maybe we could reach that magic 32500 attendance figure!

Most people who have stopped going, did not stop because of the manager, they stopped because of the owners. The only way to get people back is for the team to start winning. Who says the team are an 'innocent party'? They have not been giving anywhere near 100% every game.

Politically the players have been and are an innocent party...

I didn't stop going because of our manager. I didn't stop because of who runs our club. I didn't stop because of the Ricoh debacle although I didn't go to Northampton. I didn't stop going because we were losing games. If this was the case I would have stopped years ago.

I stopped going because of the way we play. Used to longer journeys than the 4 1/2 hours it takes me to get to Coventry. It was the long journey home that was getting to me. 4 1/2 hours of thinking WTF did I bother again. Lucky if we had any chances. Getting outplayed by clubs that until recently I saw as makeweights in the football league. Wasting money each game that was enough to take my family away for the weekend. This is quality time with my family against non quality football games.

This was supposed to be my youngest lads first season going to watch us. All he saw was defeats. No goals for us. He thought football was all about blokes running up and down the pitch waving flags, a bloke in the middle who kept blowing a whistle and the others were there to keep falling over. He has never seen or heard a goal celebration. He only stayed awake during one game. It was raining and we had no cover. So even this was a fail.

Give me hope of us attacking and scoring goals and I will be back. I bought a motorhome last week so we can go away more easily without as much planning. But she will come into use once we are back on track as she will be going to where we are playing :)

But when it comes to actually winning games, when it comes to reasons as to why we're in the relegation zone, the players are probably the most culpable of the lot.

And not told how to play, played out of position, wrong players not subbed..at the wrong time....or even both, wrong formation........
