Firstly, I feel dirty cos I clicked a link to the Daily Mail website.......urgghh.
Secondly, this just goes to show how, no matter how many parameters are considered, analysed & factored in, the big club debate will always throw up glaring inconsistencies.....
I'd argue this particular table gets its ranking wrong as early as position 2.....Arsenal are not bigger than Liverpool....yadda yadda yadda...

You are as big as the division you are in, we are in the lower reaches of division 3 and have been for 3 years and may soon be in division 4

Out of date my friend.....we were 4th when we went down......since then, Spurs & Man Utd. have overtaken us so now the 6th.....

Being in a nerdy mood, I just checked & that's not really true either now......
As far as consecutive seasons spent in the top flight since 1888, we are 12th.......post war, we are 6th.

I am not sure where people are coming from, for me both Wigan and Blackburn are 'bigger' clubs. They play in higher leagues than us for a more consistent basis and been more successful.
It falls back to definition of 'big club' and for me that is down to consistent success rather than people through the turnstiles, since dropping out of the prem we have had no noticeable success whereas other teams mentioned have been either playing at a higher league or have won things.
I am surprised we are as high as 41.

Blackburn are far bigger.....Founder members.......more than twice as many seasons as CCFC at the top table.....and they've won way more trophies....
They're not "living off 95" half as much as we are off 87....

I would agree about Blackburn, but Wigan? Seriously?
They have been in the football league for 37 years (3 more than the years we spent in top flight). They, by comparison, have spent 8 years in the top flight. Their highest ever average league attendance was under 21K during their first season in the Prem. During the 90s their average attendance in each season throughout the whole decade was around 2.5K.

Lets be realistic we are now a small club (with potential to be big) dropping further and further down the pyramid - If we carry on as we are we will certainly be down to 3,000-4,000 at home games particularity if we are relegated- If things do not change then the lost fans will never return and the young potential fans will never support us

In fairness Stoke City have won major trophies in their history. Remember that football began before 1992.

Its biased towards teams currently in the premier league as income is criteria, so a club like Hull who have never won anything and only been in the topflight for 4 years are atificially boosted by having a high income and Swansea who have only been the top flight for about 5 years in there history are also boosted another one Crystal Palace, trophies from 1900s hold as much weight as tropes won in say the last 20/30/40 years. Global fanbase is calculated by adding up the number of facebook/twitter followers on official accounts, which I don't believe is a fair representation, the clubs with a better social media department/cyber presence will dominate. The player quality criteria seems a bit bullshit as well.

This sums up the club and the denial by many fans, we have been out of the top flight for years, we are wrestling with dropping into to old 4th division, however you want to assess this football club, that is not a successful club in its current state, it is one still in freefall and struggling.
football is not about fan base and all that bollocks Newcastle fans love to quote, it is about success on the field. I go, hoping to see my team win games, not to have a full stadium, the latter follows if the former is achieved and I go to see us win and based on the last few years, we are failing in that department and that makes the club a failure compared to every team above us in the leagues.

Clearly the formulation of such a table is extremely subjective. I have seen many over the years, we usually show up at around 32nd, 33rd. We will obviously be slowly slipping down from that position year by year as SISU take us deeper into the mire, but 41st doesn't feel right.
I'll say it again, Wigan Athletic are not a bigger club than Coventry. In fact they aren't even close which makes this particular table utter tosh in my eyes. I am also surprised to see Arsenal above Liverpool, which seems to be because they have more Twitter followers from what I can work out.
