Coventry City received a massive blow tonight with the news that James Maddison is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The teenage midfielder, in brilliant form as the Sky Blues launched the season with three straight League One victories, limped off in the sixth minute of Saturday’s 2-1 derby reverse at Walsall.
He had a scan yesterday and revealed on Twitter that he would be out of action for a 'few months'.
Manager Tony Mowbray, who was at the King Power Stadium last night watching the 1-1 draw between Leicester and Everton reserves, said afterwards: “The scan hasn’t been completely confirmed yet but, yes, it looks a bad one and that was my immediate thought on Saturday.
“I watch James in training every day – he takes a lot of knocks but he’s a brave lad who always tries to run it off so when he came off like that I feared the worst.
“It’s a disappointment, of course, but you have to put up with that kind of thing in football and it’s up to us to find a solution.”
Maddison’s displays have drawn the attention of Premier League clubs – Arsenal apparently sent their chief scout to check him out at the Banks’s Stadium – but now Mowbray must find a way of operating without a player who has quickly established himself as a key component of the City attack.
