It was in the original plans drawn up by Coventry Council, Warwickshire Council and Centro in 2011: http://www.coventry.gov.uk/download..._5c_final_train_service_report_-_26-08-11.pdf

Here's what London Midland had to say about that today: http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/train-company-says-told-coventry-9924279

Would be interesting to see how often it is actually used.

Maybe people going to work at the ricoh?

But if it's no better than buses, people might not bother?

Do you know the funniest thing? Maybe we will now see the Wasps take the council to court. Wouldn't that be a turn up for the books?

We still await the financial returns SISU may get from these clowns and now their lies (?) to sell the Ricoh, concerning the station, may come back to haunt them.

5 years ago!!! Ah so we just build it anyway, something not right here....

Well the current line is 'at least we did something to get it built and now something has to happen as it's now physically there'

Which I agree with to an extent but my problem is the blatant bullshit they've been spinning for years. "look how good we are, look what I've done, vote for us"
We were lead to believe when it was finished there would be enough trains running to get to and from the game. Not everyone trawls through official documents which say different. Not everyone has the time to email the train company. The council have basically lied.

And I'm not saying it's the councils 'fault' there won't be enough trains and it won't be fit for purpose, but don't tell me they didn't know about it.

Mark Corrigan: OK Jez, fine, but have you done your market research?
Jeremy Usborne: Market research? If you build it, they will come, that's my market research.
Mark Corrigan: Your market research is Field of Dreams? I mean, a man who made a baseball pitch in his garden for ghosts, that's your role model?

Who are you trying to blame then?

No differant then the billions they are going to spend ploughing HS2 through our county.
It won't benifit the local man or the local econimy MP's only see what they want to see. They try and sell it to the public and then build it regardless.
Another cluster fuck to service the minority.

After the optimism of the last few weeks on the pitch, today has been far more typical of the usual shit we have to deal with supporting this club. Normal service has resumed.

Mp's like to see these big projects like hs2 as no doubt they have friends/family nicely positioned in the organisations that are getting the work. There is no need for hs2 the train is an outdated and overpriced mode of transport, if you want to go to Scotland on the train it is probably cheaper to get a private jet there instead.

Maton is so full of shit, he must be pissing himself. He could probably come out calling everybody bad names and get away with it.

People would use it if it was cost effective and reliable. When I worked a couple of months in Japan we went pretty much everywhere by train. It was cheap, clean and to the second onetime.

Compare that to over here. For me to go from Portsmouth to Cov for a match, assuming its a Saturday and I can get the cheapest fare, is £76. It takes longer than driving and costs twice us much and that's assuming there's only me in the car.

Add in that being the weekend there's every chance of cancellations and rail replacement buses and its a non starter.

Public transport, of all types, needs to be cheap and reliable. That's the only way you will get people off the road.

I think most people who get the train to the ricoh can't drive rather than for cost.

I had a look at trains for somewhere, it was 3 times as much as fuel and an hour longer! Why would I bother?

Haha coming from some of the least passionate fans in the country. There is probably about as much atmosphere at Falmer compared to when we were in Northants.

Maybe you should pop down to Falmer to see how you can shift 30k crowds in about 40 mins.

75 people per hour hahahaha

It wasn't long ago you were getting crowds of 2k. Maybe they took that into consideration Lol

And finally

Coventry City fans have been banned from using the Ricoh Arena's new £5m railway station - because the trains are too small. (Daily Mirror)

Firstly what is a Brighton fan doing on here? Secondly the train line has nothing to do with the club is down to the council and tinpot was it not long ago you were close to extinction playing at a park with very low crowds? Bet your one of the 25k fans that have appeared from the wood work since the new stadium.

I live five minutes walk from the station at Bermuda and had no plans to catch the train from here as it would have been about £4 and it probably costs me about 20p in diesel in the car. The crazy no parking area near to the ground should now be relaxed as one of the important options has now gone.

You do realise it's not the club?

How can we compete with mighty Brighton the 1910 Charity Shield winners, we maybe a tinpot club but at least we have a pot in the cupboard and our clubs most famous moment is not a bloke who couldn't score past Gary Bailey in the cup final.

Nick I think it is probably beyond the brain power of this person.

Tip Chiefdave, if getting train from Pompey split your ticket into two journeys at Banbury...eg fratton to Banbury, then Banbury to Cov. Cuts the fare down.

Did any of the newly owned ACL promotional material include the train station as part of their promotional material. although a big ACL event won't have the volumes of a WAPS / CCFC fixture it however may also struggle with a train holding just 75.

He's like a little kid on twitter. You either agree with him or you're against there being a train station at all. He can't seem to comprehend that people would actually like trains to stop at the station.

If this was always the plan, that the grant money had to be spent by a certain time which was a couple of years ahead of trains being available, then that should have been clearly communicated from day one. Sure people would have thought it was a bit odd but it would be far better than getting to this point and being a laughing stock.

This kind of thing is one of the most frustrating aspects of the rail network being broken up. You shouldn't have to have information like that to get the best price.

Madness. Even putting aside the rugby/football part, 75 people an hour is poor even for people visiting the largest shopping complex in the City. How much money did CCC put in?

I've been amazed by some of t he things he's said over the last few years, not just on Twitter but when he appears on CWR. I think he is the absolute worst kind of politician; cannot see the wood for the trees.

Why on earth pump all that money into a station next to a massive stadium and shopping complex which is then useless for either purpose?

No, that was another idiot.

Is Maton the bloke who spouted about 'building trust' when negotiations with Wasps were ongoing, or was that some other goon?

I think if some of the Nationals, or Private Eye picked this up they will have a field day. And rightly too, main basis was to alleviate traffic problems but looks like we have a major white elephant on our hands. Obviously following Jumbo on the City badge.......

Go for it, write to Hislop.
