Are We Doomed To Failure ? (6 Viewers)

Doubt it it would very expensive, I think most top clubs have them but I doubt any have them in league one.
I think there is such a thing called a visualization coach in some sports, which basically is a trained person who gets the athlete to think about landing the perfect punch, scoring a great goal, and so on.I know some top boxers use them and golfers too,but it all is about positive thinking in the end. But they weren't around in the times of greats like Marciano,Ali,Pele, and George Best,so they probably didn't need them !

We've lost one game........... the cup doesn't count. It was probably a good thing to go out. I know we haven't had much to get excited about in recent years but if you can't be optimistic at the start of the season, when can you?

We have made a great start and i think everybody would have gladly taken 9 puts from 4 games at the start of the season. we have beaten some good teams and lost to a team above us. So we can say that we have the ability to make a top six finish.

however.... what is concerning is that after 4 games the manager is admitting in the CT that we are down to the bare bones after 2 injuries and a couple of junior England call ups.

if anything the depth of our squad will be our undoing

After a good start to the season since losing to Walsall all I've heard is bad news.Maddison out for three months,Willis also sidelined, now Armstrong to miss the Burton match.Add on the calamity of the new rail station fiasco, the shambles in getting tickets and long queues etc,it leaves you thinking what the hell is going to happen next ? I know being a City fan isn't for the faint hearted or of a nervous disposition, but it does feel like we're bloody jinxed !

No club in history could be run this badly . I'm convinced since the Richardson era , there has to be board members who's loyalties belong to other clubs , ie Villa , Leicester , etc .

It's not all that bad really to be honest.

Yep, but at the same time, 'perilously close to the bare bones' after 4 league games ain't good either.

Coventry City squad 'perilously close to bare bones' admits Tony Mowbray

'We’re down to the kids filling up the bench," says Sky Blues boss

Tony Mowbray admits that, barely a month into the new season, he is perilously close to the bare bones of his Coventry City squad.

Midfielder James Maddison and defender Jordan Willis are ruled out of Monday evening’s home match against Southend with long-term injuries while on-loan duo Adam Armstrong and Bryn Morris will both be on England duty when the Sky Blues travel to Burton Albion next weekend.

“It’s always disappointing when you lose players,” said Mowbray, “particularly as we’d started the season pretty well and it was becoming a settled team.

“You’re playing the same 11 just about every game but all of a sudden you’ve got injuries and international call-ups and everything mounts up a little bit.

“What it really does is highlight the lack of numbers we’ve got at first-team level; we’re down to the kids filling up the bench – that’s not a complaint that’s just a fact.

“We could have signed loads of loads of players through the summer but we’ve been trying to get the right ones.

“I don’t like to fill my training ground with players that agents are pushing at us, telling us that the next Lionel Messi is just around the corner.

“I don’t like doing things blind but the triallists we’ve had around the ground are people I’ve worked with in the past – I know their characters and I’m just checking where their fitness levels are.

“We wouldn’t want to spoil the good start to the season by not having the right numbers in the building and it is starting to look a little thin.

“We have still got some options and we will hopefully sign another one or two in the next week or so, just to bolster us a little bit, but the window closing on Tuesday doesn’t change very much because there’s still the loan market.

“The idea is to strengthen over the next few weeks and months so the fluency of the team, it’s identity, will become stronger and stronger.”

'Our ambition is to try to make the Ricoh a fortress'

Switching the Southend match until Monday has enabled Mowbray to give his players a mini break after the 2-1 defeat at Walsall that scuppered their 100 per cent start to the League One season.

“It was a chance to take a big gulp of air and get ready to go again,” said the manager; “time to take some of the workload off their legs after the intensity of the start of the season.

“There’s a three-day build to the match so haven’t done too much work on the grass, but we’ve run over the last game and hopefully put a few things right.

“The free Saturday gives me a chance to go and watch another game involving opposition we’ve got coming up.”

Mowbray confirmed that left-back Chris Stokes is his only fresh injury worry, explaining: “Chris has had an injection in his ankle but he will hopefully train over the weekend and be fine for Monday.”

The bench is going to pretty weak on Monday. One of Murphy or Tudguy will start in place of Maddison, which leaves very little quality of game changing options on the bench.

So two of our young players get injured making us have to put young players on the bench? :thinking about:

A lot was made of the budget pre-season, I wonder what is left in the pot to reinforce ? The owners can already see that if the team is performing the crowds will be a lot better than last season, by the same token if we start to collapse again folk will drift off and revenue will diminish. Mowbray knows we are struggling for numbers though, it's not like he has his head in the sand.

Swanson seemed to come through a reserve game (or some of it), so might be available. Is Thomas still not fit? Other than that, it's got to be an academy kid (Harries? Kelly-Evans?) in for Phillips on the bench.

To be fair, it's no different (if not slightly better) than when we were playing well under Pressley.

I think Thomas had another head injury in the reserve game so they are having to monitor him again.

Yes all this is a disappointment and certainly not what TM wanted. However if we win on Monday (and get no more injuries) then it will be four from five. No one on here thought anything like this was possible. If as well we manage to bring in a couple more loans as cover then it will still look good. We are playing a good brand of football, scoring goals and generally looking comfortable. Ok the defence has wobbled a bit in the past couple of games and that could be an issue as the season progresses.
The important thing for me is that as a club and as a team we seem to be moving in the right direction after many many years of going the wrong way.
The young lads need us to get behind them. There will be disappointments ahead but I believe there will be more smiles on city fans faces than for the last 15years or more.
Are we doomed??? Of course we are not. We and every team will need to adapt as the season progresses to meet challenges of injuries, poor form, different conditions etc...with TM in charge I believe we will adapt more quickly and effectively than most

Mitrovic sent off Newcastle and will get a three match ban. Wonder whether they will consider recalling Armstrong.

Were just about to play our 5th game of the season, why is everyone so stressed about one game in a long season. You need to sit back and enjoy the ride, TM looks like he knows what he is doing and from my point of view is keeping his powder dry when it comes to bringing in players. Why buy mediocrity when you can paint the bus black instead, only joking, trust this guy though I would rather he take his time and get the right players than use the scatter gun approach of his predecessors.
