Update on Ajose - 'difficult to get over the line'

My friends up north suggest this would be a difficult deal to get over the line given the fact that Ajose has two years left on his contract at Elland Road where he’s understood to be earning three to four times more than the average City player.

The 23-year-old, coincidentally signed by Dave Hockaday, cost Leeds £150,000 from Peterborough and although the club appear ready to offload the forward who clearly doesn’t figure in Uwe Rosler’s plans, the player will be keen for a decent settlement on the remainder of his deal.

That appears a long way off at this stage and one way round it could be to agree a loan deal allowing Ajose out for the season as he did at Crewe last term when he scored eight goals in 27 games.

Someone on Twitter suggested the same; would need someone to offer a decent wage, assuming that's because he's on a cushty number at Leeds. The words 'covers enough of his contract' makes me think we will be priced out of a move;

PhilHayYEP: No bids for Byram. Leeds still ready to allow Ajose to leave if someone covers enough of his contract. #lufc

Funnily enough, Billy McIntyre was sat just a few rows behind me last night.

If there is significant cash involved then he won't be coming to Coventry, other than possibly on loan.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, have we even signed anyone in the last 2 deadline days? Always hope and rumors and a lot of page refresh but aren't we use to by now not getting anyone?

The deadline day is an event made primarily for Sky sports and the nauseating armchair fans who spend all day watching it.

For clubs outside the Prem it's meaningless as most permanent transfers are free and take place in summer.

Really? Most Championship transfers are frees?

There really will be a lot of obscene money changing hands today across Europe. It seems to me to be open season to me for Dutch, German and Spanish clubs to secure their financial future at the expense ultimately of the SKY subscribers and the Prem deal.

Short term right back required imo, Philips not upto it but don't want to stifle Willis progress when available again. An experienced holding midfielder and perhaps a big man up top to offer an alternative option. Those would be my priorities. I'd like an experienced keeper too, but if we can persevere then both the young guys we have will benefit but it may cost us going up this year.

Clubs in the Championship are now paying £2m fees for a one year loan...

It's just bonkers

Bournemouth paid £39,000 a week for a player they only put on the bench to try and ensure premiership promotion.

Accurate assessment.

Potential target for the Sky Blues?

At a time when City are searching for tricky wingers, interestingly Adam Hammill has departed Huddersfield Town by mutual consent.

The experienced 27-year-old played under Tony Mowbray during a short term deal with Boro in 2012 and could represent an option for the Sky Blues before the deadline closes.

Terriers boss Chris Powell said: “Adam has worked diligently during my time as Manager and I believe I speak for everyone at Huddersfield Town when I wish him the best of luck for the future; he will always be a friend to everyone here.”

According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United forward Nicky Ajose is wanted by Coventry City on loan this season.

Sources north of the border suggest St Johnstone are in talks with Coventry City over a move for out of favour winger Danny Swanson.

The 28-year-old is yet to feature in the Sky Blues matchday squad in the league and was today pulled out of City’s Under-21 game against Crewe.

Swanson had been named to start in the behind closed doors game at Ryton at 2pm but has been replaced by Jordan Shipley, adding weight to the speculation that he’s heading back to Scotland.

Excellent. Should get a fee for him. Plus frees up wages. Every little helps and all that :)

If his contract has been cancelled, I'm pretty sure the signing could be done after the deadline?

Kenwyn Jones right? Just googled it because I thought "That's gotta be bollocks!" Unbelievable amount of money spent on having him at Bournemouth! £350k loan fee + £250k for getting promotion paid to Cardiff. Madness.

So no then.

Having had a quick browse, clubs in the Championship buy players but supplement with frees and loans. So, inconclusive.

But based on the fact that it isn't just the Championship outside of the PL, and many clubs sign players on loan and frees, this transfer window is an irrelevance.

I don't get Watford either, 3 more players coming in today, yet they can only pick 25 for the season? yet they have over 30+ players. We need an Italian contact ;)
