Moldovan was quality for his national team, had a ridiculous scoring record. Did well at club level before and after us I think as well. Just unlucky to come into a side with Dublin and Huckerby in top form.

Arguably his signing pushed them both into top form.

Also, Martinez got 3 goals in 5 starts apparently, under Nilsson. Then he was used sporadically, then shown the door with his mate Ivan.

I remember us splashing the cash on Larry Lloyd 240,000 from Liverpool and David Jones from Everton for 250,000.

Both big money at the time, but neither really came off.

You're right. Seemed like he lost interest towards the end of his career, the end of his Cov career certainly. Sounds like he sacked it off after he got released end of 13/14 season, though wasn't widely reported.

Eastwood Building and Roofing?

For some reason, I just instantly thought of O'Reilly the pikey builder from Fawlty Towers.

Evtushok, £800 000 for a centre half who had to be hauled off after half an hour or so against Man Utd because he couldn't shit his pants up any further.

Played 6 times. Was dreadful but we some how managed to sell him back to where we bought him from for 800k.

Just checked, it's Raffelle Nuzzo, he was in goal when Tranmere stuffed us 5-1 in the Cup in '99.

"The third best keeper in Serie A"

Regis Genaux! That's the guy.

Sadly no longer with us.

Jean-Guy Wallemme. Not sure if he cost us a lot of money. Remeber John Hartson crashing into him from a corner against west Ham. He didn't stay long after that.

750k on Ysrael Zuniga who looked lost most of the time he played for us. Had a decent record at club level though.

Poor old zuniga. Allegedly was supplied with a false European passport and had his signing on fee taken from him, by world cup winning argie, Renee Houseman. Houseman was our South American scout at the time. Walter Zevallos was also supposed to sign but the home office started taking an interest in Houseman. By then zevallos could not obtain a Spanish passport he/we had been promised.

Think TM MV etc are proving what can be done with good financial control.

When you look at the deals that were done and the financial effect over the decades you appreciate even more what the current manager is doing.

Had we not over paid fees and salaries on a whole lot of dross then we would probably never have got to the financial calamities the club has endured or the owners we have (had)

....... but then again we probably wouldn't have had TM here at the end of it either:thinking about:

I heard from someone on the train home after a match that he was happy here but his wife wasn't and wanted to go home. Not sure if there's any truth in that but it's what I was told.

To be honest, I saw Wallemme play a few games for us, the one against West Ham is clearest in my mind; he had John Hartson battering him black and blue and he kept getting up for more, and he kept (an albeit ageing) Ian Wright quiet.

He was a decent centre-half, he just didn't adapt well. Or rather, his wife didn't.

The only plus from that deal is we got our money back when we sold him to Stoke. Unbelievable, i know.

He was pretty well thought of at Stoke so not so unbelievable
