Loan Theory (1 Viewer)

So you have loans come in and who are blatantly no better than any of the existing squad but because of some unseen agreement in their loan contract the manager has to play them.

This causes a number of issues-mainly.

Squad disharmony-due to existing squad members knowing that however they perform the loans will always play.

Team underperforming when the chips are down or when under pressure as the loans 4 in the team just can't be arsed and have no affiliation or affinity with the club. This can also be very infectious as rest of team get lulled into this catatonic state. (Witness poor DKE last night battle in vain as the only one who gave a shit).

The loan thing is just perpetual at the moment as every year since we got relegated from the championship we have had a squad peppered with loans.

I don't blame SISU but the mongs responsible for player recruitment (Venus at the mo).

Something has to be done to stop this happening, we need to build an entire squad for the future , build with players who are paid by the club and get City's recruitment right.

We have to take gambles on some unknowns next season, we'll be in a great position to be able to offer the sky blue experience (and we definitely DO still have a great club that players still are attracted to) that to those players who just haven't had a break yet.

I think Robins alluded to it when he talked about getting scouting right-we need a plan now on who we're recruiting, a strategic plan to get at least 2 players for each position. We should be scouting non league and tapping up out of contract players from League 1 & 2.

We've really only got one chance to get this right.

Loans are boom or bust. That's my issue with them. Great if you get an Armstrong and Murphy. But if you end up with Wright and Agyei you are fucked. Much better to build slowly with permanent signings. It might not be an option though.

Whose better? People were bitching we didn't have the midfield powerhouse Bigi in the team. He's in and he's rubbish.

Most of the loans have been in and out the team.

The recruitment has largely been appalling and short term.
The number of players we've gone through is unreal.
No security or continuity, no heroes as they don't stay long enough to build any affinity,
Waggot was generally poor in this dept yet it appears we've missed him.

Is there any proof to this 'have to play them' notion?

Not sure about us, but I remember reading on whichever team Ryan Kent is at now's forum that he has to play every game he's fit. They definitely exist, but obviously we don't know who has that clause and who doesn't.

Overall, I don't have an issue with loans, but they've got to be better than what you could afford to buy.

For me there are other problems
The fans have no affinity to the players and vice versa (AA aside)
The young players with a future see it as a stepping stone and the older players it just a payday
The manager never plays his best team. Needs to rotate to give the loan player a game (otherwise no point having him) and the contracted players he has to keep sweet.
I could go on, but can't be arsed. Ready for a beer.

I think there were only two loans in that awful first half last night.
One was Reilly who puts more effort in than most of the contracted players

Didn't some bloke we had from Middlesbrough last season get recalled because Mowbray wasn't playing him.

Maybe it's not a formal thing but if the parent club don't feel their player is being treated well or not being improved/gaining experience they recall him and farm him out somewhere else.

DKE better than Sterry
G. Thomas better than Dan A

For me the loans were generally no better than what we had.

If you get a loan in his temperment needs to be sussed because if they are hungry and want to do well like Armstrong thats great but if they think they are lowering their standards to come here forget em

I hate loans with a passion, for every AA & Murphy there is a Chuba Akpom - felt too good to play for Cov, his performance at Brentford away - just couldn't be bothered didn't chase anything.

Loans suit SISU avoids having a proper scouting regime, less financial committment, can be cheaper on wages also. However ensures that there are a constant churn of players, no transfer fee etc.. if you do find a good player, tend to be very young and inexperienced.

The opposing argument of course is to think of all the shite we've signed on long term contracts and couldn't get shot of.

IF we had at least 1 talent spotting scout and he managed to get 1 or 2 'talents' in IF our supposed coaches could improve these talents things could look rosiee for the future.. at the minute it appears the local blind society are talent spotting for us .( no offence intended to these people) we have a talentless squad with the exception of a few academy youngsters the rest of the squad are utter shite and I cannot see we will get a return on much of the squad but will the dimwits in charge see it this way.... won't hold my breath

I don't think the recruitment has been anywhere near good enough since Andy thorn thought he could play at being a manager instead of remaining as scout. He was a decent scout I thought, more recently wasn't he banding Chris stokes around whilst at forest green!? What I do find odd is that from Pressley onwards everyone has said we need to set up a scouting system - where the hell is it 4/5 years down the line!?!? There is no doubt that the recruitment to supplement the academy talent has been totally shambolic. Hopefully robins can be the one to adress this.

Rooney would struggle in this team.
Need a nucleus of players to sustain the team over time with loans and youngsters coming in only as necessary.
Three loans maximum and not one at the end of their careers winding down.
Changing the team every year to suit the dwindling budget just keeps us spiralling down.
Fisher can't see it, he's not going so the budget continues to be cut and the team just gets worse and worse.
