you mentioned you liked writing BBR......get on a load of clubs forums, start the same thread, compile the best, add your own numerous tales & memories, add photos, stick it in a glossy hardback, get talksport to give in a mention, maybe a foreward by Micky Quinn or similar & bobs yer mother brother......could be in every dads X-mas stocking for 2019.

Agree it would be good idea. The most memorable part of my first few seasons was my dad parking in the Gulson road hospital (or the diy store a hundred yds closer also on Gulson road) and walking up to the ground. He carried the stool and held my hand all the way. As we first caught sight of the floodlights he always asked me what the score would be...and I always went for a 2 or 3 goal victory...not a bad prediction in those days). Going through the turnstile, up the steps and looking down onto the pitch....absolutely magical.
We tended to jog back to the car after the game...especially when we won. Fav players in div 2 were Ronnie Rees and dietmar bruck. Remember them more clearly than half the players we have had in last few seasons.

Loved Ronnie Rees too. Sadly after having a severe stroke that stopped him walking and took away the ability to talk, he is now in a care home in Swansea.

First match was Cov v Wolves. Went with my dad and uncle. He took a wooden box for me to stand on and a rattle. Hopefully pleases bringbackrattles 2 2 from memory. Good day.

If I remember correctly a year or more ago there was a threat about Ronnie on here and a poster informed us about him because my in a home etc. I think there was a letter from a relative too.

I couldn't begin to tell you how many equalisers or winners or losing goals my dad missed at his team (Walsall) over the years to beat said rush (lucky he didn't support a bigger club or he would've had to leave at half-time).

His mood completely changed about 1/3 of home games when he found out the actual final score bless him

Was his name Dan by any chance?

I remember bits of previous years but 1975 v villa was the 1st I can completely remember. Pelted with stones on the crows nest from vile fans outside.
1st away game was around that time away to Leeds , Clark and yorath scored for them. I don't think we got out of our half in 90 mins.

First match : Coventry vs Birmingham City at Highfield Road 80/81 season. 2-1 with a screamer of a winner by Steve Hunt. Next match : Charity Shield. I blame secondary school and peer pressure for the intervening Arsenal/Southampton adoration

My Dad took me to a few reserve games in 1979 but my first time seeing the first team was September 1983, we played Everton and won 2-1.

Swindon away couple of weeks before Xmas 1960 ...think we won

That could possibly have been me mate. When he finished playing he went into Fords factory in Brigend where he had a severe stroke, and has been in the care home ever since. I took a big interest(I live in Caerphilly and Ronnie was one of my favourite players)

I'm looking forward to having a chat to Steve Hunt on Boxing Day (unless I'm up in Cov.) As I've said before, he now manages Cowes Sports on the Isle of Wight and Newport play them at home on Boxing Day. Hoping to grab a quick chat and maybe a pic or two of Hunty! (I could always go to watch a Cowes home game but that would be like a City fan going over to Brum to watch the Villa! My local team is Newport!)

1973ish Colin Stein penalty 1-1 vs Liverpool

Big City fan for years and just registered. Followed the forum for a while and this thread finally made me join!

First City game for me was unforgettable and in hindsight, hard to top. My brothers took me to the Boxing Day game in 92 where we hammered the Villa 3-0 at Highfield Rd. I was 8 at the time. Micky Quinn got two and Rosario the other. Fell in love with football and the City for life after that!
Been some tough years since but not a bad start!

Feb 96, Arsenal away. Drew 1-1 and that has been the story of my time watching Cov. In all these years I've only seen two wins, once against QPR away and the other being Wembley last year. Am going today, was also at Cambridge last season in the cup.

Sept 74 City v Luton aged 5. Can remember sitting on the wall but you weren't allowed to have your legs pitch side so spent ages looking over both shoulders and it hurt my back. Then shared a milk crate with the kid next to me and could just about see over the wall. I shared my bag of sweets with that kid. I was fascinated by the blue disabled 3 wheeler cars that were allowed to park next to the pitch and thinking how lucky they were sitting in the warm out of the rain. Ah the nievety of youth. We won, but can't really remember the score.

I wonder if there would also be any interest in former players recalling their first game for the City, to form a joint book of fans memories?
There is a thriving Former Players Association of i think 100+ members so access to them shouldnt be too difficult.
Many of the fans memories here recall favourite players and scorers in those games, and including players would offer an insight from their perspective, maybe details from the team talk, opposition players in that match, crowd reaction, etc?

Yep, 3-0 , lunchtime kickoff and the 2nd Half threatened by fog. And it followed the 5-1 trouncing of Liverpool the previous week. What a Christmas that was (we won't mention the 5-0 defeat to Man Ure a few dayas later)

5-1 v Liverpool then 3-0 v Villa... I'd happily take the trouncing off Man U to witness that!

What year was it that we lost 4-3 at home to Middlesbrough? Bernie Slaven scored a hat trick and a young Stuart Ripley had a blinder on the right. Oh and Speedie got a hat trick too. '87 or '88 it was, I think, I was really young so it's a bit blurry.
