Did he do enough yesterday to be a regular starter this season?

I thought he earnt another chance. Didn’t look out of place at all. Moved well stretched the play has decent touch. Didn’t get a chance to shoot or score. Like to see him given another go at least. I reckon he will put chances away if created. Natural goal scorer imo.

He also needed to earn his place? He’s only been in a professional environment for 2 years. Robins is handling it brilliantly easing him in.
He has earned his chance away from the 1st team. He took his chance well in a game that on paper is our hardest game of the season.

Burnout? Should we limit all games played at whatever level?

He earned his chance and didn't disgrace himself at all. He is what we need. Break him in easily. Let him play 70 minutes a game and build his fitness up to professional levels. Otherwise he won't advance as quick as he could.

His movement is excellent and I'm sure he will be a great asset for us in time, but he didn't win a challenge with the defence.
The much maligned Biamou came on and immediately started to challenge defenders and win balls.
And both of the second half goals came from his weighted passes.
I thought Biamou looked good when he came on, winning balls making passes.

I said he earnt his chance and said he deserves to keep his place?
I was saying he has now earnt his place. People were calling for him to start after about 6 games. When Robins clearly didn’t think he was ready.

You only have to look at young players to see they burnout mentally rather than physically when thrust into first team football, too soon or too often. Eg Armstrong and Murphy. Stevenson even more recently?
Or at a higher level, Sterling?

I haven’t said not to play him? I have said for him not to play every game and that Robins has managed him very well so far. You are just reading things that aren’t there.

Surely we should be doing what is best for the team?

Did anyone else catch his cheeky studs up donkey kick in the first half? Don't think he put much behind it but was lucky the ref didn't see.

Looks like he has promise but looking at it coldly, he was probably our least effective player and it looked a touch too early for him. Worked hard though and deserves another chance but let's give him a chance to develop rather than throw him straight back in the team next week

Disagree, he ran for everything stretched the back line and closed the keeper down which forced s hasty clearance that kelly almost capitalised on. I say he has earns another start - same line up

Definitely start the next game (considering it’s the FA cup as well), but think people need to stop with the ‘he ran for everything’, people can’t shoot beavon for his best attribute being his work rate and then say ponti is amazing because of his work rate.

He got a nasty cut on his shin apparently so I think they will keep an eye on it and decide about Saturday! The duck may not play as Wolves may not want him cup tied☺

He’s not good enough for wolves yet. Think we will be able to extend it, or he will go to a league one club. Buts he’s not championship standard yet.

The thing is with Beavon running about is his only attribute and before Otis says anything the occasional pass , I don't know if ponticelli is ready as I have never seen him play but unfortunately for Beavon he is at the other end of his career and is past his point of usefulness

That isn’t the point. All I’m saying is they can’t praise one player for it but not the other.
Ponti will have a much better career than beavon imo, but he can’t start every game just because he worked hard. I would start him again on Saturday, but like the others, he needs to keep earning his place.

TBF it was a master stroke by Robins.
Showing the strikers that there is someone knocking on the door if you don't compete.
Funny how they both scored, keep the pressure up I say.

Like Wilson?

So he plays his first game and you go on about burnout. That happens when young players have to be played every game because there is no choice. Then you continue to try and force your point over. So who said play him every game fir the rest of the season? Nobody. It is all in your head.

If he is ready let him play. If he needs a break let him have one. But he shouldn't be kept out of the side for playing too much after playing less than a whole game.

Wilson was 22 when he broke through.

Where have I said he needs to have a break? I have said he should start the next game. But he needs to keep earning his place? I spoke about burnout, because I was pointing out he shouldn’t start every game, and that he has been managed well by Robins.

Somebody said ‘he isn’t ready to play every week’.
You responded ‘How is he supposed to get ready to play each week if we don't play him?’- suggesting to play him every week.

But you are getting boring so if that’s not enough for you to understand what I mean, then let’s just agree to disagree.

Me getting boring?

So you now suggest that I was saying what I wasn't to justify you bringing up 'burnout'

You responded ‘How is he supposed to get ready to play each week if we don't play him?’- suggesting to play him every week.

Yes this is what you said about what I said. You took a lot from one sentence that wasn't there.

Yes I find it boring too.

I like beavon, i think he is a decent link player. I thought Ponti also runs at everything but the difference in him, is he is a natural goalscorer. That i believe. Beavon will link play ponti will finish chances.

I don’t think sick boy is saying don’t play him, the idea is not too much too soon. Even the best talents need to be protected.
He did well yes. But he shouldn’t start every game, he’ll burnout if he does, and he won’t suit every game.
Young players don't 'burn out', older players do that. And we've signed more than our fair share of them.
Also talents don't need to be 'protected', they need to be nurtured.
Maybe he shouldn't start every game, but he needs more than 5-10 minutes after we are already beaten.

Agree with that. I like beavon too, but not as the main striker, and McNulty clearly needs someone who he can play off, and will help split the goal scoring burden, which I think ponti will do, but don’t think he will be able to play every game this season, will need to find another partnership will work. But I do think Biamou brings something to the team as well so far.

Not going to even respond to you with a genuine response, if you don’t think young players burnout.

They don't if played right. 90 minutes each game every game is too much for some. Others can handle it. Just like 90 minutes most games and playing every game for most older players is too much for many. But others can cope. Some players whatever age need a rest. But then you have players like Doyle who can play a whole season even at his age.

Ponti hasn't been rushed in and playing every game like seasons before with younger players. He should play and see how he goes if his manager is happy for him to play. He knows a lot more than we do.

That’s literally what I have been saying the whole time :’) I have said on other threads and way earlier in this one, MR knows what he is doing. He is a kid. He has earnt his place, and deserves to keep it. But he cannot play every game this season or he will burn out. Probably not physically, but mentally.

And yes you are right if he is managed right, he won’t burn out, which is what I have been saying in that MR had managed him very well so far.
But for Gazolba to claim young players don’t burn out is ridiculous.

I’m gonna backtrack on my earlier comments on this thread about this lad, although he didn’t score, I think there’s something about this boy. I must be honest I didn’t think he was anywhere near ready to be fast tracked above the strikers we have got.

He will become in time a NATURAL goal scorer, something I’m afraid Beavon has never been.

In Robins I trust.

Leave him out of Sunday's meaningless game and play Beavon, I would change most of the side for that game
