Cost of watching putting young adults of (1 Viewer)

I am not a youngster but feel that the product is more important than the price and I would suggest that if the product was better then the gates would be bigger.
If you opened the gates with free admission you wouldn't get much of an increase with the dross we have become accustomed to.

£30 (the figure bandied about by the Premier League to defend this), is a lot for two hours entertainment.

I could watch 3 movies, covering about 6 hours, buy a decent game covering about 20 hours, or go to the theatre for 3-4 hours and with a guarantee of quality.

When you’ve got Sky on TV and FIFA on consoles also offering you football based entertainment at a fraction of the cost, it’s no surprise.

Someone on NMW shouldn’t have to pay half a days wage to watch low level football. Any change would fuck over clubs without hefty TV income, but we can’t keep propping up a shitty business mode in the hope that it magically gets fixed.

There is a lot of competition for entertainment nowadays, a lot of it (not all legal) available for free or close to it. Four games of football buys an Amazon prime or Netflix membership for a year...

Most people live on all the wage coming in to the household, which restricts ability to purchase a season ticket, and it is easy (for the missus in most cases) to find an excuse not to go to games.

I would like to see more people through the turnstile, however it can't be free, and as explained the quality of product would still have to be reasonable if it was.

It's catch 22 in the lower leagues, as they aren't getting silly money from TV rights they rely on the ticket money a lot more.

The £30 figure which can be quoted per game is what I pay a month for 10 months I think it is on a season ticket. Some months it will be 2 games but others 3 or 4 within that month so doing it that way really isn't too bad. I think the 18-21 season ticket is only about £230 so that would be about £23 a month which works out much better than paying per match.

If for example Leagues 1 and 2 want to on the whole bring ticket prices down then they need to also look to bring player wages down. The more players will expect to be paid in those leagues then the more tickets will rise to cover it.

While all of the focus is on the Premier League and silly money being given to those clubs and teams lower down getting ignored, there won't be much of a choice but to charge to cover costs.

I understand that some people don't like finance or paying monthly for things but I do think finding a way to help people pay for blocks of tickets easier gives them more of an incentive to.

Also, with social media, Fifa, Sky Sports etc how much of it is down to expectation. Kids nowadays will watch something on Sky and see Neymar, Ronaldo and Messi and then expect that when they go to watch League 2 Football.

I went onto the BBC site and got this:

You could spend
£886.50
following Coventry City this season
Tickets £299.00
Pies £92.00
Teas £57.50
Programmes £69.00
TV sport subscription £324.00
Replica adult shirt £45.00

It isn't anywhere near close, I don't buy pies, teas, programmes and not sure what the TV sport subscription has been added in for. I can quite easily just get my season ticket and the JSB membership for the whole season without everything else they have bunged onto it.

This stat they give is interesting though:

It would take 2 fans spending like you to cover an average League Two player's weekly salary

Football could easily fix itself.......if the premier league weren't such greedy cunts.....we need more of the TV money fairly distributed down through the levels.....

Fans could also help buy not paying sky sports subs....

That's the thing, start showing more of the other leagues and give them some more money.

Now there's loads more sky channels it wouldnt be too hard to feature more.

That's fixing the symptom not the cause.

Abolish the TV deal and limit televised football to one game per week from each league to be shown on terrestrial TV.

Not lowering the season ticket price despite relegation was criminal in my eyes.

I also think the single ticket cost is ridiculous really. Having my own team, I cannot commit to many games this season, so purely rely on the odd weekend when I don't have a match at the last minute. The ticket being around the £25 mark before anything else is simply too much.

I fear if we're still in the mix after Christmas, those prices will hold people back from attending when we need as many bums on seats as possible.

The problem is that the Premiership is now populated by primarily foreign owned clubs. If anything brand "Premiership" is only going to become further estranged from the rest of the professional game.

I don't think there is a quick fix either because handing out more money would just alert agents to demand higher player salaries, rather than allow for cheaper admission. Forcing the club down the throat of everyone in the city (and surrounding area) in a positive light and providing incentives to attending games is what is needed. It is difficult but I guess it is about making the local club more relevant to kids than the side they see every week on Sky Sports.

Personally wish they'd sale the PL off to join some sort of European / World Super League and leave domestic football to it.

Overall would have to say we don't look too good this year when in the past we have been pretty comparable to other clubs.

Only 6 clubs have their cheapest ST at the same price or higher than us. Although another 10 are within £30.
11 clubs most expensive ST is cheaper than ours.
Our cheapest single game ticket is the most expensive in the division.
Only 1 club charges more than us for their most expensive single game ticket.
We have by far the most expensive pies and pints.

Parking is missed on this survey and I reckon there's a good chance we'd be top by a fair distance on that as well.

Basically if you want to watch us get a season ticket and don't have anything to eat or drink at the game.

Shmmeee, I don't think supporting your chosen team and 'entertainment' are guaranteed bedfellows so unfair to compare those other mediums as a substitute.
It's an investment way beyond entertainment expectation and most of us accept it will be a lifelong 'marriage' regardless of reward and we stick with them. (in varying degree)
Agree with your last paragraph though.

We don't set the pies/pints prices though, just to balance things up. We do set the ticket prices though so your point still stands.

That’s how you and i see it mate, but we are the exception not the rule. Most people just want a fun day out.

Yes but is it still good value? Cost v income v time v entertainment v alternatives.

The HUGE wealth disparities within society are reflected in the top/down imbalance within the footballing world.
The premier League is a CANCER sucking on the host and barely doing enough to keep the it alive.
No wonder this is happening, it has been too disjointed and top heavy for too long.
The obsession with money has all but ruined it....without a new generation coming through that'll be it.

13 a game for me, I have no issue with that

But that is you....a lot of young fans see it differently and they are the future.

Spot on, but only affects us

The average fan who attends the ricoh (and the BBC on this report) doesn't think they are buying a pie from ACL when they attend the ricoh, its CCFC

11 more games of expensive pies.

But there are a lot who can only go now and again due to work etc. They are your POTG crowd and to pay 20 odd quid and then watch shite football will put them off coming again.
Problem is you lose them forever.
I.am 55 so don' know any better, it is the young ones you need to get up there.
Us oldies are dying off fast and no one is replacing us.
