Transfer Rumour Apparently close to signing 2 players (1 Viewer)

Even dropping down a league has meant nothing but continued mediocrity
Mediocrity's a step up from what we're used to.

tbh, I think we're being a bit blase in accepting the loss of Willis. If our defence hadn't been so good as it has been, just where would we be?

I'd also expect him to be sold to cover wages of others coming in, while the transfer fee pays for the wages of those already at the club, however, so wouldn't be expecting his fee to be reinvested in players really.

Exactly. Seemingly he has attracted interest, we have cover. Seems to me the most logical and least damaging.

Much rather Willis than McDonald and much rather wish Willis than Kelly. We are thin in midfield, pretty rich in the back line.

There's a few players I wouldn't mind getting rid of, but who's going to be interested in buying them?

Well put, Willis has done well and built a good relationship with Mcdonald and has a figure on his head which we need more to bolster the attacking play

Willis isn't indispensable in L2, Davies can come and slot straight in.

Centre backs is one position we are overloaded with players.

It's not solely down to Willis tho is it, what about the other 6 defensive minded players around him keeping the opposition out.

Yes it's all the defence who should take credit. It's seems to have gone pear shaped though since a certain left back has come back in. Coincidence.........?

Or that fact that we've lost any pace and real attacking threat so sides can come at us as we're slow at getting forwards and gained a extra 10-20 yards up the pitch sending us deeper?

More coincidence.

Mediocrity? He’s been an absolute stalwart this season. I understand why people like McDonald because he can ping a pass 60 yards but in terms of a defender, Willis has been head and shoulders above McDonald this year.

I disagree, Willis just can't cope with big strikers, his heading is so weak. Where Willis is better than McDonald is his athleticism but that has been regularly redundant due to the type of strikers we've played against in L2 and by how deep our team has lined up. He's also been caught ball watching several times this season instead of getting tight to his man which has contributed to some of our goals conceded. Overall I'd say Willis has been good but certainly not head and shoulders above McDonald who I'd say is nailed on for Player of the Season with Jones injured.

I disagree too. For me, McDonald is definitely the better of the two defenders.

Indeed. And has complimented Willis very well which in turn makes Willis look more solid being next to him.
Lets stop pretending that Willis is some sort of world beater, this is his level and he's even made mistakes that have lead to several goals even at this level. Some people have very short/selective memories.

I also 100% agree with that and said the same for a while. Willis has improved this season or the standard has slipped to a level he's confident at or in a side he's confident in so he's finally excelling.

Willis has flaws still which plague him for time to time and dies struggle to deal with certain types of strikers, yet go toe to toe he will win all day.

Time to cash in and say well done and thanks.

We could tick a few boxes more and upgrade on Willis if MR really can stretch the pennies and see if we can tempt Ben Richards-Everton to come from Accrington. Only a few months left on his contract, 6'5" and athletic and originally from Birmingham having played at Hinckley a short time ago.

I hate to say it, but Willis has has his trousers pulled down by numerous strikers this season.

He should be head and shoulders above everyone on this league and he’s really not.

I like him and ideally wouldn’t want to lose him, but we have good enough cover at CB and he’ll command a decent fee.

It's nice to have cover at centre back after ladt years shambles pity we didn't have the same with our offensive

Definitely got a 50p head.

Redeemed himself a little in the second half when we squeezed play a bit better which nullified there threat more.
Davies introduction showed my points completely that's he needs to start to deal with the big lads and direct style of play.

Willis today showed every reason why he's not the be all and end all of our defence. He is disposable at the right price.

Willis is one of those players we take for granted a bit.
Would be a shame to break up a good partnership at the back, but with Tom Davies looking like he should be a regular starter (he is dominant in the air for a start) plus Dom Hyam doing pretty well when called upon, cashing in on him would make sense.
Edit to say that Stokes is decent at CB as well if needed...

And Grimmer can play there too.

Mickey Adams said when he had him playing for him he wasn't sure if his best position was full back or centre back.

Curious how he can commend a decent fee if he isn’t any good ?

Don't think anyone has said he isn't any good. Just that he's not indispensable and not as good as some may believe.
