Still think we were 100 runs short this morning. Hoping Ali and Woakes would have chipped in at least 40: each. Need to bowl full at Smith, he is eating these short balls up

Agree 500 should have been par first inns on this.

Any decent batting side would get 500 easily, our main hope is that this Aus line up isn't too strong compared to what we've faced in the past!

Smith started well here!

Great position then messed it up. Should have got 500 minimum. Will be tough from here.

Seemingly likely that the Aussies will surpass our total and could take a substantial lead. Only 234 behind now and still only 2 wickets down.

Looking ominous unless we can make a breakthrough and take a couple of wickets.

Smith masterclass today. Great batting out there today but we have made it easy for him

Thank fuck for that! Needed to break that partnership but sadly the wrong one. Let’s smash Smith with nice full balls and watch him panic. Need a Broady show!

Definitely. He is the best batsman in the world for a reason but it frustrates the hell out of me when he can get to a half century with a strike rate in the 90s

It’s still in the balance, we get some early blood then we have a chance. Smith was superb so hats off but our bowling seems to be all over the place again.

Back in the game lads got back in this morning - we have a chance a slim chance - have to pepper Smith and Marsh - first 6 overs - hopefully Overton side strain is light as we need his pace

Bottom line is that throughout the series we have been second best. We have won the odd session here and there, but they have bowled better and batted better.

I do have this horrible feeling they will go past our total and build a reasonably healthy lead.

Then, God help us.

Australia will get 500-600 and put us under pressure in the second innings.
Their tail-end isn't going to collapse like ours did.
All I see is another defeat or at best an unlikely draw.
We have to drop Moeen, he is out of form as a batsman or bowler.
I'd also either drop Cook or move him to number three.
Is this really the best team we have?

Pepper them with what? None of our bowlers have real pace.

Ali is one of the best performers in 2017

1st Test 38 and 40, 2 for 97
2nd Test 25 and 2, 0 for 99
3rd Test 0 and 0 for 20 (so far)

Bowling so far 2 for 216.
If he's one of our best performers, God help us.

Well, it's looking like the Ashes gone. Aussies now only 89 behind with the loss of just one wicket this morning and they will surely now take a biggish lead of 70-100+. I would then expect England to crumble.

This must be very demoralising. England finally felt they made a good score and the Aussies are just making it look all too easy.

Whitewash now on the cards?

Needs something magical from the England bowlers now to give us any chance. We need the Aussies to have an England style collapse.

Been boring as hell this Ashes
Totally one sided. Take away the clouds and we can't bowl. Bowl any faster than 85 mph at us we can't bat
Probably it in a nutshell.

Next match is Melbourne, Boxing Day. Is anyone in England going to be the slightest bit interested in watching that?

Looking like it'll already be all over and done and dusted here in Perth.

Aussie lead now 75 and STILL only 4 wickets down.

All over already I think. Even a lead of 75 is too much for us to go on and win the game.

Only hope is a draw, but Australia will surely be at least 150-175 ahead and I think we will be skittled and bounced out even well short of that.

200 lead, then declaration you think?

Aussie commentators saying England's body language has been wrong and they haven't looked up for it.

Has to be demoralising though when you just can't get a player out.

I don't know about that, the Aussies like to put the boot in. Just not good enough with bat and ball, especially outside English swinging conditions. They just put a graphic on of leading wicket takers, Aussies take positions 1-4, with Anderson and overton at 5-6. Our batting has been poor and we don't look like we can take 20 wickets.

It's the kind of wicket that will kill test cricket it supposedly a battle of bat an ball, this is so batsman friendly that marsh who would be an average county pro has 150. The ball should be changed at 50 overs to make it a bit more exciting.

Or, better still, the bowler has 6 balls, all different colours and vibrancy, and the batsman doesn't know what colour he's going to get until the ball leaves the bowler's hand.

That would spice things up a bit.

In 2017 Calender year he is - you can’t just drop your best players after a couple of poor games
