I think the general consensus after yesterday was bayliss looks like a player and for me it’s due to him talking time on the ball and looking to drive forward with it when he gets it.

These were also things Maddison and Stevenson were both good at when first came on the scene so someone is doing a good job with the kids.

However how long will it be until this trait is coached out the lad and it’s all backwards and sidewards passing and don’t take a risk with it like 90% of players I this league?!

Both he and Shipley look to move forward with the ball at their feet it is only the senior players like Vincenti that don’t seem to want to now. He looked very realaxed on the ball.

Definitely something that has impressed me with Shipley. His first thought nearly always seems to be to take the ball forwards. Really refreshing to see.

I'm very surprised at some of the low marks for Shipley in the ratings thread. Went off the boil 2nd half but was very good in the first.
As the OP says, someone is doing something right with the kids.

Yep. I thought he had a good game and I only knocked him down on his ratings for a couple of mistakes. He set up a few really good attacks with his deft touches and put some lovely balls into the box.

Shipley was a bit too relaxed yesterday 2nd half and lost possession a few times but at least it was in the opposition half and he was trying to play.

Both Shipley and bayliss look decent athletes too.

I remember watching them play against Arsenal in that FA cup match up the Ricoh and thinking those two looked decent but that out the Two Bayliss was the better.

Camwell looked like had something that match aswell.

Yep. Word was that he has been poor in a few U21 games though.

He was close to the first team not so long back.

If you look at it objectively he lost possession a lot during the game.

He did get caught 'dithering" a couple of times and had the ball taken off him

He took more risks with his passing players like Kelly never give it away but he never moves it more than five yards and normally backwards he is a stats mans dream but a strikers nightmare

I thought he showed promise, but he did lose the ball too often too easily.

Nothing wrong with having two defensive minded midfielders in Doyle and Kelly. But then the three in front need to offer something different. For me this is the conundrum Robin has to solve, because it is where the goals will come from. He has been very unfortunate with Andreu and Jones. Shipley and Bayliss have something to offer but are not the finished article.

Two things a good side needs are: good shape and good tempo with passing.

Forgive me if I'm missing a obvious goal but who was the homegrown player to score on there debut/full debut?

Thought he did excellent for most parts against a big physical side. Lost the ball a few times while taking too long but will grow and adapt hopefully to be quicker in men's football.

Thought Bayliss looked a bit raw, but bursting with confidence.

Shipley made a few mistakes but from where I was I saw some lovely interchanges with Stokes and Mcnulty. Good little triangles.

First 20 mins was so wide open, reminded me of first period under Robins, eg against Walsall in Dec 2012 (scoreline aside), anyone else think that?

My memories go back 50 odd years to a young 18 year being thrust into our third division team, Ronnie Rees, took to it like a duck to water an immediate success and why ? because he was good enough and that’s the bottom line. Baylis impressed me a lot

Not seen it on highlights, but reading their forum they were in front of it, was a definite penalty.

He doesn’t even turn 19 until August. There was a good interview with Doyle in the CET last week who was raving about Bayliss’ ability. He’ll be in out and of the team/squad in this season but now he’s had a sniff it’ll push him on to stake his place as a regular.

What will Robins do on Friday? Is Kelly supposed to be back by then? If not, will he keep faith in Bayliss who repaid his trust yesterday or put Stevenson back in?

Kelly will walk back into the team, I think he’s still weeks away yet.

Robins deserves a lot of credit though for brutally dropping Stevenson to bench after a run of 2/3 games. Was the correct decision and a very very brave decision.

I remember Martin Singleton doing the same - alas did not have a great career after that

Was a big decision to make, good managers make big calls. Might upset Stevenson to see himself knocked down the Peking order or it might kick him up the arse. Either way he hasn't done enough to be 3rd choice this season.

Career is faltering this last 12 months more so the last 4.

Yep, I thought that one seemed like it was a penalty and the Biamou one definitely not.

The fact that he left Stevenson out after a couple of games where he looked better than earlier in the season and picked Bayliss instead might answer your question.
OK he may have made a few mistakes but he didn't disappoint.

You maybe just wonder if Robins threw him in to see if he could make the step up with a view to maybe Stevenson leaving in the transfer window.

Ready made replacement if Bayliss can fill that role.

The quality of the academy? Think that's open to debate.
Here I go with my agenda then regarding Bayliss-yes he had a good game yesterday but how many times have we seen it all before? Sometimes it's a case of someone different, someone we haven't seen before who is enthusiastic and changes the norm. I remember Stevenson was being lorded as the new saviour not long back.........

Burroughs is only 16 so early days of his development yet but a good player. The Villa commentators were impressed with him in the game on Wednesday

Another thing to remember on the academy they are now producing players for division four which is easier than when they had to go in the top league I know some have pushed onto the top end recently but not that many
