I disagree with the Telegraph bollocks that cites him as a "Coventry City legend" ... maybe "Coventry City burger van and fried chicken shop legend" is about right

Who do you define as a ‘legend’ then?

Considering we’ve only won 1 major trophy and haven’t had a promotion campaign since the 60s legends at CCFC are few and far in between

To any teenage Cov fan Gary McSheffrey is probably the closest to a legend in the last 15 years

Bloody hell, who pissed on your chips?
Gary McSheff. Then he ate them.

Cyrile Regis
Brian Borrows
Dave Bennett
Micky Gynn
Dion Dublin
Oggy
Paul Williams
Gary Breen
Richard Shaw (excluding his coaching career)
Brian Kilcline
Jimmy Hill
John Sillett
George Curtis
Gary Mac (first spell only)
Huckerby
Hadji
Big Mo
Boateng (if nothing else for his goal v Villa)
Dave Speedie
Kevin Gallagher
Noel Whelan

You get the idea. McSheff showed promise but he never "made it" like that lot. You could go further back with the likes of Ernie Hunt, Tommy Hutchison, Trevor Peake, Ian Wallace, Dannie Thomas etc etc. That's before my era but clearly they're all in a higher class than McSheff.

But none of them have played for us in the last 15 years I don’t think. So for our teenage fans who have only seen us post Premier League McSheffrey is a legend, that was my point

The Telegraph will be labeling Haynes as a legend next. They’ve already written a headline today calling him the ginger Messi. Funny that they don’t appear to mention that he did fuck all else on Tuesday apart from gift Luton their equaliser.

Hopefully McSheffrey will be warmly received by the SBA, he gave us some great memories during his first spell.

Who said anything about the last 15 years? he's not a club legend, end of. And I say that as someone who has only supported the team since 2007. Admittedly that excludes his first spell but even so, it would be fairer to say there have been no club legends since relegation.

If you don’t mind answering why 2007? Did you move to the area or just start getting into football around that time?

Agree with this. is probably closest thing to a legend in the last 18 years. We forget that he played most of his prime career in Championship and even a season or two in premier league.

Top player in his time. Just like we get excited now when Jones gets us off our seats at league 2 level this lad did it for us in the championship!

I’m 23, and I’ve seen only 3 of those players play. Big Mo, McSheffrey and Richard Shaw (competitively, I went to Gynn’s Testimonial). The nearest player to a legend in my time as a supporter, was Kieran Westwood or McSheffrey - and I throughly disliked him as a player in his second spell to be honest.

It’s pretty safe to say my time as a Coventry City supporter hasn’t been the most pleasant of experiences - and I still wouldn’t have had it any other way!

Never liked Mcshufty in his 2nd spell never think of him as a legend but would rather have him as a legend than Richard gift a goal Shaw... couldn't stand him utter shite

Depends how you define legend. To me a legend is someone who showed logevity at the club and made hundreds of appearances with a mediocum of success ( Oggy) (I know that this is hard being a Coventry fan)

Someone who did extraordinary things, that fans from all ages would identify. Most fans would identify the FA Cup winners, Jimmy Hill built the club. Dublin I would say is a legend. The guy scored goals in the top flight with a poor team.

McSheff scored goals for us in the second division and moved on, would I say he’s a legend - no, I’d consider him a massively popular player.

I always think legend gets thrown around too much, and mixed up with popularity
