What's the shorest length of time you have ever spent in a town or city? (1 Viewer)

Not talking about waiting at airports or anything of that ilk. Destinations you have actually wanted and chosen to go to, but didn't stay long.

Obviously poping to the shops or city centre of your home city doesn't count either.

Just went to Birmingham and stayed 11 mins. New record I think for me. Got the train, went to get the gift card for the place I wanted (so 5 mins walk. Got served, 5 mins back and straight back on the same train.

Southend. Cycled there from Rugby over a couple of days with friends. Arrived, met the families, quick photo, in the car and drove home. Spent less than 20 minutes there.

The St Ives one wasn't deliberate, while today's was.

St Ives was one of those horrible Harry Shaw type holidays where they would keep stopping at some wool outlet store on the way down and it took forever. 8 and a half hours I think.

Supposed to have a half day in St Ives, but by the time we finally arrived (right up the top the hill looking down on the bay) we got off the coach the driver said we had only got half an hour tops Absolutely nowhere for us to go and nowt to do, other than just look down on the bay. :(

Looked for about 15 mins and got back on the coach.

5 minutes in York. Went up for the day, but as we parked, my 3 yr old son threw up. He wasn’t well so the wife insisted we went home....

about half a hour in Glasgow. Our flight got redirected from Tenerife so hung around in the airport for half an hour in my England shirt getting dirty looks from them all.

My son's just joined the cadets so I had to take him to get some boots from a shop in Glasgow. The shop is next to Queen Street station so we got the train, went to the shop & bought the boots and whilst in there we could hear music from outside so I asked the guy in the shop & he said it was the start of the marching season and it was an orange parade. That was the end of our plans to spend some time & get lunch in Glasgow so we got back on the train & came home.

Exmouth - arrived in the middle of the night about 25 years ago. First time away with the Mrs and nothing planned just filled the car and said lets go away for a few days and drive until we've had enough. Got there looked about said not much here and nothing open at that time so decided to drive along the coast to Weymouth instead. Middle of the night pre sat-nav and dark - really dark, praying we didn't breakdown on awful hilly roads. Fortunately made it and had a great hols, still together so can't have been that bad :)

In my wild youth got nicked in Wolverhampton before a match, had only stepped off the train 20 minutes prior to getting into a scuffle with some Wolves fans. Coppers grabbed a few of us gave us some slaps and put us back on a train !

Ha ha.........the old bill certainly knew how to keep the paperwork to a minimum back then.....

None of this banning order back then, you'd take a few digs, get lobbed out, be back in next match !
I recall a hard copper in the 70's think he was PC Jenkins ? He loved a punch up at games, he once called me over at some "disturbance " and I had Mungo Jerry sideboards, he grabbed them and lifted me off my feet ! My mates in the West End cracked up laughing, as tears poured down my face. But as tough as he was he secretly liked us all !

Oxford - about 15 minutes.

When I was about 16 my mum got me a new coat for my birthday. I proudly wore it that night when going for a bit of underage drinking in town with my mates, and (which would become a habit in later years) prompty left it behind on the floor of whatever pub/club we ended up in, as I didn't want to waste money paying for the 'cloakroom'.

To save getting murdered by my mum the next day I got the bus into Coventry to buy a replacement without her finding out - the only problem is, the Cov branch of 'Burtons' didn't have any left, so I ran to the train station, got a train to Oxford (not sure why I chose Oxford), ran from Oxford staion to Burtons, bought coat, back on train, and home in time for tea. Mission successful - mum none the wiser!

(I think I lost it again about a month later after leaving it on the floor in some club again and had to walk home freezing.)

Lymington in Hampshire. Driven through many times on the way back up to Cov (via IoW ferry), but last year, my step daughter, who lives in London, phoned us a week before to say she would come to see us for Mother's Day, but could we get the ferry over and she would meet us at the port in Lymington. We booked the tickets as foot passengers and caught the ferry at the appropriate time. Just as it was leaving Yarmouth, my wife got a text message from her daughter saying she had over-slept and was still in London. Could we make it another day? Needless to say, we weren't too pleased. Ferries ain't cheap! So we had to disembark at Lymington then join the small queue of foot passengers for the same ferry back to the island! What a waste of a day!

When I borrowed a company car once, the missus fancied some proper fish and chips from a seaside town, so I drove to Weston Super Mare, she ate the fish and chips on the sea front, I then drove home

I'm driving to Lymington next Friday, as the missus has booked us a week away in the Isle Of Wight

Please don't ever use 'holibobs' again.

Not shortest amount of time but there's plenty of cities I've visit while on tour with various bands that I've seen nothing of. Especially when its a band playing arenas. You wake up on the tour bus already in the arena, at the end of the gig you get back on the tour bus and get driven overnight to the next arena. Sometimes you don't even set foot outside the building.

Its a bit odd to have travelled all round Europe multiple times and gone to places like Japan and Australia without really seeing anything.

That a nice part of the island. If you come into Newport anytime give us a shout and we can meet for a pint if you like. I also know the island like a local so if there's anything you need to know, just ask me.
