CJ just posted on twitter, or rather asked the question, that's it's an EFL rule that loan players can't play against parent club. Seems most logical explanation.
If the power lies with Jackett however it's surely a no.

Not an EFL rule. Ryan Leonard played for Millwall against his parent club Sheffield United on Saturday - his deal is the same as Chaplin’s where he joins permanently when the transfer window opens

Mckenzie when he signed from Norwich was banned from playing against them both home and away that season I seem to recall

Yes as we had bizarrely signed a “gentleman’s agreement” not to play him. I suspect if we’d pushed it there’s nothing Norwich could have done about it.

Seems he was banned from playing against the other 22 teams aswell!

Not officially until January.. until then loaned.

Still makes no difference as such as players on permanent deals can be stopped from playing against former teams if that is what is agreed

Chief Commentator!
From what I've read about, re. the reports on here, would he be missed if he didn't play? Not scoring (what we signed him up for!) and doesn't look likely to for a few games yet. Portsmouth needn't worry too much.

By him missing out it gifts the fans another chance to boo one of our own if he misses a sitter Chaplin-style! :D

I do hope Bakayoko can step up in such an important game! Or Hiwula but with him missing out on the match day squad at the weekend I imagine Baka will get the nod?
