Cup Matches... Play or Rest? (1 Viewer)

Now that we have a mini break until Burton, which players should play or rest?

My take...

GK: Burge - play Saturday, LOB Tuesday;
RB: Grimmer - play both games;
LB: Brown - play Saturday (no Mason still?), Camwell to be at fault for the goal on Tuesday;
CB: Willis - would rest. Hyam Davies (if fit) Sat & Hyam JT Tuesday;
CM: Kelly Ogogo both games... need game time desperately. Bayliss is out and Doyle needs the break;
RM: Thomas unlikely to have permission to play Sat. Jones in both;
LM: Hiwula Sat, Shipley Tues (unless on int duty?);
CF: JCH rested and Baka both. Chaplin Sat (think he needs games still) Andreu Tues in withdrawn role.

LOB play in both
Grimmer play in both
Thompson play in both
Hyam play in both
Brown play in the FA cup (unless Mason is fit)
Camwell play in the Checkatrade
Kelly play in both
Ogogo play in both
Andreu play in both
Jones play in both (give him 60 mins in each)
Shipley play in both
Baka play in both

Can’t argue with much of that, what’s Bayliss injury?

Not sure if Jones will be ready to start both, maybe worth bench sat and start next Tuesday?

JCH bench Saturday?

Depth of the squad really is a massive bonus!

Agree with most but I imagine MR will give Morgan Williams another go. He already looks a quality player and Cheltenham gives him another opportunity to see his progression.

Cheltenham : O'Brien: Grimmer, Thompson, Hyam, Mason (Camwell if Mason not fit): Jones, Kelly, Ogogo, Shipley: Andreu, Bakayoko:
For Walsall I would probably look at bringing in the likes of Burge, Brown, Davies & Hiwula.
With regard to subs I would go with youth for the Cheltenham game, but for Walsall match I would probably have the likes of Willis, Doyle & JCH on the bench should the need arise to use them.

Not sure right mid. Possible Burroughs or Dexter Williams possible?
Kelliy
Ogogo
Hiwula likely

Chaplin

Jones will get as long as Physio thinks he can manage. May well start

I agree we should play a strong team.

And please, lower your expectations of Jones all of you.
He isn't strong enough yet to start and his consistency at Li level is unproven

Having watched Baka today v QPR U23s mmmm?
I'd be tempted to start him against Walsall, and if he can't raise his effort (which should be a given - but wasn't today) I'd be having a word with him. Any supporter can forgive/understand a poor performance, but not lack of application.

Jones got better as the game went on today
Baka unfortunately spends the game back on his heels
Defenders nip in front of him and take the ball away while he's waiting for it to arrive
He looks like a big kid who did well in youth football because of his size who thinks he can do the same in men's games

bring him as a sub for Walsall with 30 minutes to go! the ex player jinx may work cos he will be fired up after what he read about what the Walsall fans had to say about him.

I'd start him. Having watched a bit of him, I think we have to tell him he's got to get himself in the box at every opportunity. Thomas, Jones, Sterling, whoever will get crosses in. It's his job to do what he did against Charlton. Today, he really offered nothing and whilst I accept he didn't get service, as Steve Floyd or betterdays said, he was on his heels a lot, but worse for me, he didn't do any closing down (and it wasn't because he was shattered)

This is correct my nephew used to play against him in youth football and my father in law said he was just a big lad and not all that talented
