Eh? Without wanting to sound thick or uninformed, why is it "treating him poorly" to say he was tired at 3am? I'm tired at the time of night when I am still up, which happens once a week....no shame in it. How's that racist?

Did you click the link where it shows 35 other stories about him? Nothing overtly racist (of course, national newspapers) but he’s targeted. You won’t find the direct evidence I assume you are wanting though.

“But what about <insert another player here> hill83?”

Yep. But we are taking about Sterling.

It's not racist but you are being a bit thick. It's alluding to when he pulled out of an England friendly camp for being tired but went to a party until 3am. If you read the thread of tweets there are loads of negative articles about Sterling mainly from the Sun and Mail. Interestingly Phil Foden bought his mum a new house and was lauded in the press for doing a great thing for his dear old ma. Sterling does the same thing and the news criticises him for being blingy and a show off or some shit like that.

Off the racist topic for a minute but I thought the behaviour of some Cov fans yesterday was utterly shameful. I travel to half a dozen or so away matches every season but it's getting to the stage where I'm not enjoying it any more, and it's not down to what's on the pitch. Some idiots spend the whole 90 minutes abusing players and fellow supporters alike .

I liked the cup game.

Bloke by me dumped his mrs because she was going to watch spice girls and told her that she could forget about any caravan. He didn't come back for second half.

Other than him, a lot of bellends

I'm not looking for evidence or playing devil's advocate...I genuinely don't know why Sterling has felt the media has played the race card against him, and wanted to get an idea of the sort of coverage he meant. The one about him being up until 3am seems reminiscent of similar stories about Gazza and Teddy Sheringham, no allegations of racism floating about around those stories.

Mediawatch special: Raheem Sterling and The Sun (again)... - Football365
The Sun/Mail undoubtedly deliberately focus on Sterling and other young black players to generate controversy/arguments and all importantly clicks. Then when the lowest common denominators hurl racist abuse (due to their continuous stories?...), they can report on that and get more clicks. Rinse and repeat with no shame...

I don't see any real evidence that the papers are picking on Sterling because he is black. The gun tattoo thing was obviously wrong, and everyone who did so was right to call it out. He's not a victim as far as I can see.

That tattoo did it for me. He's an attention seeker, whatever colour he is. Whoops, that'll upset someone.

They create a negative image of him. I don’t know anything about him but the perception is of a greedy figure - yet he’s no different than any other play.

Cashley Cole was another constantly receiving negative press. Cole was always one of the first at his clubs to volunteer for charity and community work and yet he was again tarnished with a negative image

As a contrast the greedy, grasping Beckham was given sainthood status

I also watched the whole game live and was perplexed by the abuse the middle-aged twats were dishing out to Sterling. So much hatred and anger in their faces. Where the hell does that come from ? Just waiting for some prick to say 'we were just having a laugh.'
Anyone know if the Chelsea mob still make the anti Jewish gas-chamber hissing sound whenever they used to play Tottenham ? Quite disgusting....

Sadly it's been like that for a few seasons or more

Idiots more interested in getting 'Hammered' then supporting the team

Going to away games these days is certainly less enjoyable

Shall we just leave it?

what you've got to understand Hill is middle aged white men know more about racism than you, they know more about sexism and misogyny than women and they know more about anti Semitism than Jewish people. We've been top of the entitlement tree for that long our hubris is off the fucking scale.

That's why media outlets up and down this country will today be discussing the Sterling incident and statement and talking about how terrible the whole thing is yet the barely employ a black person between them and certainly not in a high profile position. Chief culprit will be Talksport who'll have the like of Jim White and Alan Brazil waxing lyrical on the matter, a pair of absolute roasters who can talk utter shite on almost any topic.

Why is Foden a Saint for buying his parents a house and Sterling a greedy show off for buying his mum a house? What's the difference between Foden and Sterling?

Only a matter of time before Chelsea fan and father of three Terry Twat talks to the Sun, claims he’s not a racist and has lots of black friends. I’ll give it 24 hours.

it wasn't Sterling, it was Adarabioyo. The writer of the article has defended the piece by saying that the articles were a year apart and need to be placed in context: the Adarabioyo article was written when there was a focus on the spending power of clubs and these having extremely well paid youngsters on the books who had hardly seen first team action. Not defending, simply providing a response from the writer, who (for what it is worth) was Asian.

Racism/Culturalism will be possibly always with us, and every race/culture practises it.

Just had a black journalist from the Mirror on 5Live.

He says there is clearly a problem, and though these incidents are sort of mentioned in the papers in a small article tucked away somewhere, nothing is done and they all just move on.

He said he is really cheered by Sterling speaking out and saying what black people already know.

They simply shouldn't have to just put up with it.

Darren someone? He'll be busy today because I 'm fairly sure he's the only senior black sports writer on a national newspaper.

I've said it before, there are parts of the media and the establishment who don't like young working class men making lots of money, if they're ethnic then their dislike goes up several notches.

I've never seen an article criticising the earnings of Benedict Cumberbatch or Eddie Redmayne.

Adarabioyo is another example of attempted character assassination by the Mail. Racism in the mainstream media should not be with us but it is and its fucking dangerous because it encourages behaviour like those fucking Chelsea morons.

this is becoming an issue at a lot of clubs and by the sound of it, listening to supporters od other clubs I know and seeing stuff put on social media there are a lot of clubs where it's a much bigger issue than at ours.
Always disappointing to hear people getting put off away games because of it.
